Many of these academics are the feared peerreviewers of the present. Having survived high blood pressure and ingrown toenails, they carry with them the battle scars of a long career in academia. For those who’ve been accepted into science’s inner circle, it can, perhaps, be hard to understand why all these wrapped-incotton- wool ECRs are getting their knickers in a twist. After all, people have, and still do, rise to the top tier of the mortar-boardwearing fraternity.
