The fulfill ing season
There’s nothing like an end-ofyear celebration, especially one that looks after every part of you: heart, soul, body, mind and health.
Whether it’s baking gifts for the neighbours or getting the kids to help with glazing the ham, I love Christmas because it brings people together over food. And this year, more than ever, I feel passionate about the fact that, in this topsy-turvy world, we all need to be doing whatever we can to nourish ourselves and our loved ones.
That’s why I think ditching those traditional ingredients usually associated with the silly season (think refined sugars and carbohydrates) and replacing them with nutrient-dense alternatives is one of the best things you can do to maintain optimal health.
We all know what we put inside our bodies has a fundamental relationship with how we look and feel and, by being creatively clean with our food choices, we can have more energy to do the things we love during our time off.
Festive ferments
One of the best ways to get lots more energy from food is to take care of your gastrointestinal (GI) system. To do this, I make, eat and even gift Christmas kraut to family and friends so they, too, can experience the energy boost that comes from having a good balance of bacteria.
