First Class 315 goes for scrapping
EVERSHOLT has begun disposing of its Class 315 units that have been made surplus following the introduction of Class 345 ‘Aventras’ on the Liverpool Street to Shenfield route.
The first unit to be sent for scrap was No. 315850, which is one of six units that have been stored at Wolverton for several months (the others being Nos. 315832/835/840/860/861).
No. 315850 was collected by No. 37800 Cassiopeia on October 20, departing as the 5Q66/06.29 Wolverton-CF Booth, Rotherham. The unit had been at Wolverton for 10 months, having arrived on December 20, 2017 with No. 315860. It last ran in service the previous day (December 19).
No. 37800 then hauled Nos. 315860/861 from Wolverton to EMR Kingsbury on October 29, and Nos. 315832/835 from Wolverton to Sims Metals, Newport, on October 30.
The ‘315’ fleet is split into two, with Nos. 315801-817 leased to London Overground and the remainder (Nos. 315818-861, which are now being removed from service) being used by TfL Rail. The London Overground sets are scheduled for withdrawal once the Class 710/1 ‘Aventra’ units
