Many gardeners rely on chemicals to protect their crops from predators such as insect pests, but in an organic garden, physical covers protect crops from a range of pests both big and small. They can be fiddly to use but, once you’ve worked out the best methods to apply covers, they are highly effective, can be reused and when used with care, have little environmental impact.
GOOD FENCES
The first line in physical crop protection is a sturdy boundary fence. Use fences to keep out large native animals such as wallabies and kangaroos, as well as stock animals and even wandering pets such as stray dogs. Fences also keep out feral animals, including deer and rabbits.
