I've had some people tell me that this series got boring after awhile, predictable even...I'm so happy to say that hasn't been the case for me. Each book I start, I feel a little nervous wondering if this will be the one that doesn't grab my attention and keep me interested. With this one, I found myself making excuses not to do my housework so I could finish it! I started hating Shane a little bit in this book, and Shane and I have had an up and down relationship since the series began. I'm not as forgiving as Claire and there were times I was willing her to just walk away from him. Opportunities arise for Claire in this book and she has some decisions to make...she also has to try to save the town...Again! Because who else could save it but an 18 year old human girl, right? And once again, we've got a cliffhanger that's going to have you itching to get your hands on book 11. Well done Ms. Caine, I love your writing immensely!

Just when you thought the town had gotten back in order. Shane goes to the darkside, he is angry, violent and filled with hate. Claire distraught over Shane, endangers herself. She also faces and life changing decision. Eve and Michael are in love and more. Bishop, is not where he's supposed to be. Myrnin gets to play the crazy hero. The town is endangered again, and it all starts with a health club. Just another moment in this messed up little town.
Lots of action, heart break and pure adrenaline.

3 1/2 stars for this one. I love this series but this book really showed me some points I liked more than previous books and some I liked less. The drama within the Glass house reaches all new heights in this book. Everyone has secrets from one another and not all of them are good!

In this book a new gym has opened up where a vampire is training humans and vampires alike. One thing I must say is that it must be HUGE. We get all the standard gym setups for weights, cardio, etc. We have boxing areas, ratchet ball, karate mats and even a fencing room and more! I would love to have a gym like how this appears in my city (less the vampires). Shane is one of the first to check it out and gets really into the fighting there but when one fights under vampires, bad things can follow.

Claire is told some startling information but is heavily threatened to keep quite about it. Frank Collins is still being kept a secret, Shane is drifting away and even Eve and Micheal have a secret! All this adds up to lots of drama and home intrigue as a I wonder how it is all going to come out.

While this book is mostly focused on Claire (as all past books have been), we get something new that I loved. We get a first perspective look into Shane's thoughts! While they are very warped in this book due to other factors I won't give away, it was an interesting new aspect to the series I highly enjoyed and hope to see again in future books of the series.

One thing that is really being to annoy me are the idioms and text speak being used on a regular basis. I loved how the earlier books had a more mature aspect to how they spoke but now its getting annoying with the slang used. I used to love Eve but with how she was talking in this book, she is now the type of person I would avoid hanging out with. She is not 14-16 years old yet acting like one. It is annoying when a character changes like that and this in one change I do not like at all and cost a fair bit of enjoyment for reading this.

With all the tension from the secrets I was expecting some interesting scenarios later in the book but i felt a bit let down in the end. The grand show was lackluster, Claire didn't seem to learn anything and no one asked questions about things that did not add up, they all just went along with whatever was going on! Grr!

So overall, good story with fun potential. Some interesting character comebacks. Drama-filled but the last 20% of the book could have been better. Here's hoping the next book is better and Eve goes back to her old kick-but, goth self!

I wanted to read Bite Club because I have so thoroughly enjoyed this series. I love the characters, the pacing and plot and the romance. Rachel Caine consistently grows the characters and gives them new challenges to overcome.Karen at For What It's Worth and Mary at The Book Swarm occasionally post twitter-style reviews. Karen calls hers Short and Tweet, and I am going to borrow that review style here. Short and Tweet (or two):Radical changes I wanted things back to normal right away. Claire has so many hard choices and stuff going on. We get Shane's point of view occasionally in this one and adds a quick and hard understanding.Bottom Line: Still loving this fast paced series!

"The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club.
The second rule of Fight Club is: you DO NOT talk about Fight Club."

    The alternative could be fatal.

And who do you think, out of the Glass House group of friends, would be interested in such a thing? Did you even have to think about it? Of course, it's Shane. The lure was something innocent, learning martial arts. From a vampire. In a public place and escalated from there.

It's all about Shane, this book, in which we finally get to hear his inner most thoughts via his POV and the depth of his struggles with his past and his desperation to avoid changing into his father, Frank Collins.

I'm deducting a star for Bishop.

In this tenth installment of the Morganville Vampire series, Shane gets himself into a heap of trouble. He joins the new gym in town and gets involved in a human/vampire fight club. Shane is glamored into joining the fight club, but his vampire killing impulses make him an easy recruit. He alienates himself from his friends as he gets sucked into fighting these high stakes matches. The baddies behind these Immortal Battles need to be taken down in order to save the town and Shane’s life.

The Morganville vampire series always delivers a new fun adventure in a town where humans and vampires coexist. There is always a new villain to kill or problem to solve for Claire Danvers and her friends. We are near the end of the series, with only two more books planned. While I enjoyed the perfectly titled Bite Club, it was not my favorite of the series, and I did not like it as well as the last book, Ghost Town. The tone is a bit darker this time around and did not have the familiar blend of humor, fun and action as in previous books.

Shane’s journey to the dark side and separation from the group dragged down the first half of the book for me. Shane does get a chance to share his POV in this book, and it is obvious he is suffering a lot as he battles his internal demons. It’s interesting to get Shane’s POV, but in a way I think the book would have worked just as well without it.

On the bright side, Myrnin, the eccentric vampire, really shines in this book. He plays a bigger role and is protective of Claire as she tries to solve the latest crisis in Morganville. The characters really make this series, and I’m still enjoying following Claire and her friends Michael, Eve and Shane on their crazy adventures. Along with Myrnin, Amelie, Oliver, the dreaded Monica Morrell, and other familiar characters make an appearance in the book.

Bite Club delivers a different side of Shane along with some insight into other favorite characters. Fans of the series will want to read Bite Club to get the latest Morganville fix and dose of Myrnin. Even though this wasn’t my favorite of the series, there are still many hints and questions in this book that gave me pause to consider where the series may be headed. I’m in it until the end and anxious to read the next book, Last Breath, due out November 1 2011.

I listened to this book in audio format, and the narrator Cynthia Holloway does a great job as always nailing the voice of the characters. If you haven’t listened to this series in audio format, give it a try sometime.

This book does something brand new in the series -- Shane's point of view is alternated with Claire's point of view. It is a very good thing that Rachel Caine decides to do this, as I do not think that Claire could have gotten such a good understanding of the lure of the vampire-themed fight club that Shane gets involved with.
We not only get to see into Shane's head, but we also get a fuller understanding of his anger and hatred towards vampires, as well as his internal battle with accepting his sister's death, followed by his mother's death, and his father's abuse and fanaticism. Honestly, it is amazing that Shane has any sanity left at all, considering the life he has lived up to this point. Claire has been like a bright star in his life, and it would be a real tragedy if he were to ever lose her -- which does not look like it will be happening any time soon.
On the flip side, Shane's drastic change in behavior due to the fight club puts Claire's heart through the ringer several times throughout the book and has her considering and reconsidering just how much she really wants to stay in Morganville -- especially when M.I.T., her dream school, starts calling. Luckily, Claire has always been a force to be reckoned with in Morganville, and her instincts are always right on par. Only she can stand up to Amelie, the Founder of Morganville, and come away unscathed, even if barely.
If a vampire fight club is not bad enough to be worthy of a book, a certain "big bad" comes back from the figurative dead to wreak havoc and death. Of course, my favorite character, Myrnin makes the final battle interesting with a few new toys and unforgettable one-liners. His rivalry with the new brain behind the town security system, Frank Collins, provides some fresh entertainment, too. This series just keeps getting better, and I can't wait for the release of the next book, Last Breath.

Absolutely excellent, as per usual. This book really focused in on Shane a lot, and he even narrated little bits which I felt really added to the story. The suspense in this one was amazing- I read it in one sitting because I literally couldn't handle putting it down for even a second. I really felt Shane and Claire grew as a couple in this one because of what they dealt with, and Eve and Michael were great as always. I loved this one and I cannot wait until the next.

So I have to agree with my friend Suz on this series. It is not the greatest series and I am not really enjoying them. This book in particular was very strange. The going back and forth between Shane and Claire was annoying. At least these books are short reads so they don't take up too much of my time. I am glad to be done with them for now.

Oh Man, this is definitely the most emotional installment in The Morganville Vampires series. It had me all sorts of stressed out, there were numerous times where Mr. Shane Collins needed a serious beat down, and I was more than ready to deliver. Then there were the moments when all I wanted to do was cry, then Eve would come to my rescue and make me smile. Claire was fantastic as always the girl just has so much spunk you have to love her. She has to make some seriously tough decisions this time around but she made the right ones on all counts. One little complaint the story really revolved around only a few of the huge cast of characters. Usually everyone manages to get their part in the story but I found myself missing some of them a little. The storyline was great, Rachel Caine always amazes me how she can write her characters out of ANY dilemma. No matter how much crap the Glass House quad gets into she always finds a way to get them out even though it seems completely hopeless to the reader, she's pretty brilliant that way. Bite Club was totally awesome I highly recommend it, and every other book in the series. 5 out of 5. Only 4 months and 15 days until the next one, Last Breath GAH!!

** spoiler alert ** This kept the action going really wonderfully and I love all of the characters just as much as ever. Very glad Myrnin's fanged bunny slippers made an appearance! :) My only complaint that keeps this from being for stars is the inclusion of Shane's p.o.v. It was completely unnecessary and bogs down the entire narrative. Plus it doesn't do much to recommend his character to the reader. Thoroughly hoping it doesn't happen again in the next book. Really glad she finally got rid of Bishop. Napalm to the face was definitely deserved by that bastard. Dying for the next book, I cannot WAIT until November gets here!

The Morganville Vampire Series has always eluded me. Every time I open up a page to this city, I am in it. Strolling at the University, getting a coffee at the coffee shop and walking along with my best bud, Claire. One thing that I enjoyed in the book is the drama that is played off in this book. Not only because it made for a great read, but also it can happen in real life. Anger. Real anger that fuels you so much that all you do is fight. I really like how we, the readers get to see into Shane's head and the anger he carries. Sometimes he doesn't even realize who he is. And that, my friends is scary. As I continue down the city of Morganville, I began to see things for what they really are. A old enemy coming back for something more. The characters in this book, are as always amazing! I loved reading up on Claire, Micheal, Eve, and Shane. I loved the realness that Ms. Caine has created in her characters. So much so that you feel like you are them. I remember back when I first started reading this series and thought, "What amazing characters!" Ms. Caine did a fantastic job on the characters growth. I remember back when before I book blogged how much I loved The Glass House housemates and couldn't wait to see what the series had in store for the futureI am a proud member of The Morganville Society and love this series. If you have not picked up this book, you should get off your butt, go to the store and get them NOW! If you don't I will send my vampire crew to get you. You don't want to mess with them!

THE FAERY'S VIEWBite Club, the newest installment to The Morganville Vampire Series by Rachel Caine was FANTASTIC! Whenever I open a Morganville book I know I’ll be reading an incredible story about my dear friends that I’ve missed so much since the last story! I love the Fictional Friendships I’ve developed over the years that I’ve been reading the series and have come to actually care about! Ms. Caine has enthralled and held me captivated by her stories in no less than TEN books and I’ve never lost interest, in fact, each book has left me jonesing for more! Bite Club is written in two person point of view (POV): Clare and Shane’s, Ms. Caine really made it work beautifully! It intertwines with Claire’s POV at just the right time and it isn’t confusing nor does it take away from the story. It gave me a much better understanding of Shane and what his childhood and living with his father after his mother’s death was like for him. Without Shane’s POV I think the story wouldn’t have been as complete.Claire has received an offer to go to MIT, the school of her dreams and she knows that it all depends on Amelie whether she can go or not. She’s ready to talk to Shane about this when he starts to behave oddly. There’s a new gym in town-a real gym and it’s taught by an actual vampire, Vassily. When Shane first found out about this gym, he was so stoked about it; anything to do in Morganville, especially the chance to learn to fight vamps by a vamp, has Shane off the couch and ready for action. On opening day, Claire watches Shane sparring with the Vampire Vassily, and the look on his face frightens her. It’s a savage animalistic look that shows so much rage. The more time Shane spends at the gym, the more he changes. He becomes hostile, insulting and dare I say, a Frank Clone. This is where things start to go seriously bad in the Glass house.Meanwhile, we’re reading Shane’s input about a beautiful vampire named Gloriana who makes Shane feel special. All she has to do is look into his eyes and tell him whatever he needs to hear at that particular time and everything’s okay. His training is miraculous; suddenly he’s taking down vamps at the gym and barely feeling any pain, Vassily has this amazing ‘protein shake’ that really works in the most amazing ways-giving him almost vampire like abilities healing, strength and agility but Shane never questions why this ‘shake’ works so well. There are times when Shane realizes that he absolutely hates vampires but for some reason, Gloriana isn’t one of them, there are also times when his heart breaks for the things he’s done and said to Claire; how he’s hurt her, Eve and even Michael but then the haze comes down again. All he can think of is the next fight, what he doesn’t realize is that he’s being used and it just might be the death of him.Bite Club is extremely complex, there are a lot of sub-plots that twist and turn in the most awesome way. At first I thought it would be about just one issue but there’s so many other things happening in the book, I really enjoyed following all the sub-plots, seeing where they led and wondering if there was a connection or not to the main plot. There’s the reintroduction of two really dangerous characters plus some new ones, all of my favorite characters are dependably present-some from previous books that we haven’t heard much about in the last 2-3 books. Everyone seems to play a part in Bite Club, no matter how big or how small-I love the fact that Ms. Caine was able to pull the complexity of the book all together the way she did. It was perfect and a One-Sit-Read, the highest honor this reviewer can give.Bite Club is another extraordinary Morganville book! I can’t wait until the next installment and I prEy that Rachel continues this series for a long time. Morganville has become almost a real place in my literary world-where my friends, frenemies and enemies live. Without Ms. Caines brilliantly skillful world building and outstanding character descriptive along with her truly amazing storylines, Morganville would just be another sleepy Texas town.

"Bite Club" was another enjoyable installment in the Morganville Vampires series. Caine is in fabulously shape as far as writing her established characters...their 'voices' are on target. Some have complained in the past few books that the characters were acting 'out of character' and yes some of their comments didn't seem very realistic. Here they come across very much as those characters we have come to love. This is especially impressive considering that Shane narrates many passages, the first book where we are in the head of anyone other than Claire. Also, as a plot point, Shane isn't quite himself in this book. The actual plot wasn't my favorite: a Morganiville "fight club" which offers online betting. One can choose to place bets on the vampire contendor or his/her human challenger. Shane gets quickly involved in this club much to the distress of the other Glass house residents. The book has plenty of action and those scenes are well done and engaging as well. I give the author credit for finding a way to tie in a character we haven't heard from in awhile in a realistic and interesting way. On the flip side of that same coin, I didn't like who the big bad guy was in "Bite Club". To me that was beating a dead horse. I think I literally rolled my eyes at that reveal which happens farily early in the book. If you are Mernin fan, you are rewarded as he shows up at quite a few points in this installment, and he is at his Myrin best. In my opinion, the best Myrin scenes are those in which he is quirky, slightly insane, and (as far as a vampire can be) kind. I also really like the interactions between Myrin and his new brain. Shane annoyed me a few times in this story, but thats to be expected with what is happening. I also believe we see something that hints at something big happening with Eve and Michael so that has my curiosity piqued. Overall this book was more of what we have come to expect from Morganville and thats a good thing.

I’ve always been a big fan of the Morganville Vampire series because I happen to live in a middle-of-nowhere Texas town. I can relate, I practically live in Morganville, my town even has the “-ville” ending in it.Basically the scenario in this book is pretty fierce, a fight club between vampires and humans–friends are put against friends. And who do you think gets recruited into this club? After reading the tenth installment in this series, I feel this book is my least favorite. Not, just because Shane goes psycho and starts abusing everyone he cares for. It just doesn’t have that pizzazz the prior books have. Before we would see glimpses of kick-ass Claire making her way in this weird town, but in this book she was strangely lack luster and a bit short-sighted in regards to her future. I mean what happened to the wicked awesome Claire from Kiss of Death? I felt like Caine tried to showcase more of Eve in this book with her sudden fencing skills, but I’m so used to people always rushing to her aid, that her sudden ability to protect herself seemed odd. I mean she has a mouth on her, but she really couldn’t do anything beside bedazzle her weapons. Now she’s fighting against the founders of Morganville. Yeah, okay…Bite Club was definitely about Shane though, and we even get to see some chapters in his point-of-view. I guess this is so we can see how his thoughts and temper quickly transform into something that is not usually himself— so we don’t hate him as much and see he is under the influence of someone else. It worked, I mean I don’t hate him, but I don’t love him either.Don’t get me wrong I still love this series, but this book was just blah. It just felt like a filler book. I assume if you’ve read this far into the series, you’re in it for the long haul. I am. I’m still going to read the next book, and apparently the one after that. It’s just that this one didn’t shine, but at least this one didn’t end on a cliff hanger either.I’m really just in it for Myrnin.

Wow. You’ve done it again Rachel Caine! Bite Clue, the latest in the Morganville Series, Claire, the main character has another crisis to deal with, and her boyfriend Shane is becoming a hothead yelling at everyone to the point of violence. Myrnin is throwing rocks through the portal because he doesn’t know quite understand how to text message. And just wait till you read what Eve and Michael are up too. After ten books you would think this series would have lost some of it’s stem (and okay, so it has in a few books), but this book has it all. I love the relationship with Myrnin and Frank as well. I liked that it took on Shane’s point of view, and maybe the next one will tackle Michael or Eve, I would love to get inside their heads. Once again I’m fully back on team Morganville, and can’t wait to read the next in the series.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyIt’s always a blast visiting Morganville. After ten books, BITE CLUB is still as fresh and fun as the first, maybe even more so. The potential for new stories in this vampire run college town is apparently limitless. The cast of characters is quite large by now, but the story never feels cluttered. I think that’s largely due to Caine’s deft dialogue which is not only funny, but functionally moves the story along as well. The plot never comes close to dragging, and best of all, I can never predict what’s going to happen from chapter to chapter. The element of surprise is rare in paranormal YA books these days and yet that’s what this series consistently delivers. All the Morganville residents are in fine form in BITE CLUB. Claire is the straight man surrounded by extreme personalities. Eve, once again full of snark, gets all the best lines. Lots of villains from the past reemerge with new sinister ways to torture Claire and Co. And Myrnin, always my personal favorite, is perhaps more sane than we’ve ever seen him—which is still mad as a hatter by anyone’s standards—and there’s a sweetness in him that I’ve never really seen before. Makes me very curious about what Caine has planned for him in the next book. I’m curious about Michael’s future as well since he was much more low key this time, but given what is revealed in this book, he’s going to be a HUGE part of the next one.Which leaves Claire’s boyfriend. I never feel neutral about Shane. I either love him or hate him, and Rachel Caine’s gift is making us feel both emotions in a single book. Although I think I might have hated him a little more than usual in BITE CLUB, despite the fact that there are numerous passages written, for the first time, from his 1st person POV. Given the nature of this story, it was vital to know what was going on in Shane’s head, otherwise I think it was have been easy to hate him completely. Shane still has a lot of growing up to do. For now, Claire seems willing to let him, I just don’t know how many more second chances we can expect her to give him. I’m really hoping the next book keeps him from falling back into his hothead persona.Overall, there is a reason this series has gone on this long: It’s fantastic. The characters, the romance, the world and especially the dialogue. I even love the villains. The next book in the Morganville Vampire series is called LAST BREATH and will be released on November 1, 2011. Rachel Caine has said that the series is currently contracted through book 12 (due April 2012), and hopefully many more after that. The TV show possibilities remain very real. Honestly, I can’t think of a better YA vampire series better suited to the small screen right now.Sexual Content:Kissing. References to sex.
