About this audiobook
#1 New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb presents the thrilling second novel in her In Death series. When technology can reveal the darkest of secrets, there’s only one place to hide a crime of passion—in the heart…
The first victim was found lying on a sidewalk in the rain. The second was murdered in her own apartment building. Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas had no problem finding connections between the two crimes. Both victims were beautiful and highly successful women. Their glamorous lives and loves were the talk of the city. And their intimate relations with men of great power and wealth provided Eve with a long list of suspects—including her own lover, Roarke. As a woman, Eve was compelled to trust the man who shared her bed. But as a cop, it was her job to follow every lead…to investigate every scandalous rumor…to explore every secret passion, no matter how dark. Or how dangerous.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Book two in the series wasn't much better than the first. I had a few issues like on page 72 she is driving through the suburbs and is musing that dads here probably don't molest their children in an atmosphere like this...but the last book was ALL about a father molesting his daughter and subsequently his granddaughter...
And Roarke still carries that stupid button...
I really hated it.2 people found this helpful

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was alright, enjoyed it better than the first book anyways.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Book Two of J.D. Robb's In Death Series is just as cleaver as book one in grabbing your attention and keeping it hooked. Lieutenant Eve Dallas hunts a killer that is taking out successful and prominently powerful women with a vicious slash across the throat. Eve's relationship with Roarke continues to develop, and her professional relationship with her Commander is put to the test when the first victim happens to be a close personal friend of his family. Eve must do what she does best, defend the dead, in order to bring the killer to justice.I don't recommend starting this book unless you have the next two or three books in the series available to read when you finish this one. Enjoy.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is the 2nd in the Eve Dallas and Rourke series. Eve chases a serial killer, moves in with Rourke who asks her to marry him in the end.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great storyline and the detective was awesome but she made enemies in this case by following the links of the killer and charged the wrong individual and it almost caused the another journalist her life if the detectives did not come to the real criminals.
But all the same with a witness in a murder not doing anything when he could have helped the victim sooner. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The witty banter. The fast pace. The conclusions. Well done.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So nice to 'reread' a favorite series. Really how the characters grow.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5i can’t het enough of Eve and Roarke!! love these books
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love imaging Eve and Rocke as real people. How he's so regular inspite of being rich. That's why he sees Eve as the woman he needs.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really enjoyed this book. I like how Eve and Rourke's relationship is progressing. The mystery in this book wasn't as good as in the previous book, I figured out the killer much earlier, but I still enjoyed watching Eve put it all together. Looking forward to book 3!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it. Suspense and the perfect specimen of Rourke wowza
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Lt. Eve Dallas is on the job, investigating a series of murders where prominent women are getting their throats slashed. She is also dealing with her personal relationship with Roarke, which goes through some rocky patches. The blend of Eve's personal problems and her detective work set against the backdrop of a future society creates a story that really keeps your interest. The reader on this CD did a good job, especially with Roarke's accent, which just captured the flavor of an Irish lilt without overdoing it. Fans of romantic suspense probably already know about the Eve Dallas series, but if they don't they should definitely give it a read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This one went fast and I liked it even better than the first one. Read it in three days on the treadmill and a couple hours of late night reading. Turned pages faster and the pacing kept up. PLUS the relationship moved along. I'm timing in each book where I figure out who the villain is. In the first one it was about 2/3rds of the way through. In this one it was a little later, maybe 3/4s. A fun game.
I can see I'm in for the long haul on this series. There goes my Nook budget again. :) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's even better than book one in the series. The romance is realistic and believable and has just the right amount of "I wish that would happen to me" in it. The detective part is more sensible and less disturbing in concept than the first. We see a bit more of Summerset so perhaps he becomes more prominent in future books. We, fortunately, see less of Eve's nasty past interfering with her lovely present.I'm starting book 3 right now.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Someone in New York is slitting throats for ratings and it’s up to Detective Eve Dallas to put him away... even if it means stepping on her friends toes.
Roarke and Eve take their relationship to the next level after a serious fight. I was proud of Roarke’s walk out scene.
I want everything or I want nothing.
What a man! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5#2 in Robb's (Roberts) 'IN DEATH' series picking up right after the first.New York police Lieutenant Eve Dallas looks for a serial killer of prominent career women. Eve tenaciously follows the clues whether they jepordize her romantic relationship with a millionaire or her beloved job. Truth and justice are the goals she works resolutely toward and that lead her finally to solve the case, save the life of a friend, and command the respect of her lover Rourke. WHile on one hand Rourke can be described as unbelievably everything on the other I find him a perfect companion to our flawed Dallas. THis is only the second in a very long series but it is one of my favourites as everything was still very new to me.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A great follow-up to the first book in this series. Still packed with steamy love scenes, an interesting crime plot, and engaging descriptions of a futuristic New York. As mentioned in the previous review, the formula IS pretty much the same, however. Despite that, it's still a hard to put down book. In this case, Eve is tracking a killer who targets strong, influential women--he slices their throats from ear to ear. Her relationship with Roark is on shaky ground due to her difficulty accepting and reciprocating his love, and she continues to question his integrity by suspecting his level of involvement in the case.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love JDRobb books she has eve and Roark so wlee defined
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I didn't really like Eve Dallas in the first half of this book, she was just channeling her inner drama-queen a bit too much for my taste. Once she toned it down a bit though, the story got quite interesting and was wrapped up just shortly after the reader figures out whodunnit.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing author & amazing narrator!! Thank you!! I love this series and will listen to them again!!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was interesting reading this early installment in the series, because I've read most of the later ones. This is the book that first introduces Peabody (though very lightly), and there are things that happen in this book that I realized are referenced in later books. Also, I noticed that "Eve uses herself as bait" is a theme that reappears often throughout this series. All in all it was pretty good, though the characters aren't as polished as they are later in the series. But that's pretty common in a series of this size.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love Dallas and Roark!! Third rime reading.dis audiobook this rime.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Not bad at all, though very similar in terms of plot and style to the first book. Would have been a four star if I hadn't read them so close together, but right now it's still fresh on my mind so I guess maybe I had expected something a little more from the follow up.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Absolutely wonderful. Excellent. One of the best of the series. Deeply emotional, it's almost painful to re-read. Great balance between the romance and the suspense, and the emotions are spread out through the entire cast of the book. The characters, and not just the main ones, are well-developed, and the main characters themselves are so real in this one that it makes them seem somewhat flat in other books. Eve and Roarke go through so much emotional pain to connect, and Roarke is unusually vulnerable and human here.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Ok, so I didn't like the first 'in Death', mostly because of the 'romance' stuff. This one seemed better. Maybe I'll actually like the third one in the set.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5As usual a very intriguing and story moving and pace through all the scenes that Eve manages to get into.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Love this series but I recommend reading from the beginning just so you can follow the relationships of the characters.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Of the early books, this one isn't as high on my list. As another reviewer has noted, Eve comes a bit strong in the first part of the book. I understand being afraid of a relationship, especially considering her background, but I thought the whole afraid to commit to a relationship with Roarke thing was over the top.I've found this to be a recurring problem with Robb. Perhaps it is her romance novel background. Overall though, her characters are outstanding and I want to get to know more about them.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5How did I not remember who the killer was ?
Another hit. I am loving this series. And now finally Peabody was introduced.
Hot damn Roarke is still the man ? just saying Eve is my hero?
