About this audiobook
In the final installment of her Lydia Strong series, bestselling author Lisa Unger, writing as Lisa Miscione, brings us her most shocking and emotionally wrenching case yet. An NYPD detective visits Lydia and her husband, P.I. Jeffrey Mark, to inform them that Lily, one of Lydia's former writing students, has been missing for more than two weeks. Before she disappeared, Lily had tried to get in touch with Lydia, seeking her help. Could this have had something to do with the death of Lily's brother, which Lily refused to accept as a suicide? If they want to discover the truth, Lydia and Jeffrey will have to follow the trail that Lily left behind, a trail of evidence that—like Lily herself—seems to disappear like smoke.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have learned that Lisa Miscione is author Lisa Unger's maiden name. "Smoke" is the first novel that I have read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I also understand that "Smoke" is the 4th title in the series, A Lydia Strong Thriller, but it can definitely be enjoyed as a stand-alone title. One of the reasons that I enjoyed the novel so much is that instead of just one strong character (no pun intended)of Lydia Strong, I felt that the author had taken the time to give definitive characterization to 4 characters, Lydia Strong and her husband Jeff and NYPD Detectives, Matt Stenopolis and his partner Jesamyn Breslow. There is also an air of mystery about Lydia and Jeff's employee and friend Dax that keeps the reader attuned to any further information that might be divulged.I also liked the turns when Lydia and Jeff questioned their pursuit of the clues to find Lily Samuels and shared other "what if" the clues should have been pursued in a different way because they had not made the right interpretations of the clues and/or events occurring and instead of solving a case they were adding more jeopardy to Lily's life and others.Even an action-packed, suspense novel normally follows one path of pursuit. This thriller presents many possible alternatives in the midst of solving a case and was an interesting read. It might also give some empathy and understanding to why true investigations are time-consuming.I would highly recommend this novel to anyone interested in investigations.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5"Smoke" is the last of a four series novel I was able to read the four from the first to the last. The first been “Angela Fire, the second “The Darkness Gathers”, “The third Twice”, the last of this series “Smoke”. Lisa Unger Miscione has a way of bringing in her journalism work into the investigation of criminal activities and policing. As an author and a consultant, she was able to bring both profession together to help people and as well as find the missing ladies. While at the same time bring the criminal to justice and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is quite understanding to know "Smoke" as the 4th title in the series on the titled namely A Lydia Strong Thriller, but it can definitely be enjoyed as a stand-alone title.
Additionally, there is another reasons I relished the novel being that Lisa took center stage and involved different characters not only one strong character in the book series especially this last novel Lydia Strong. I sensed that Lisa toke time to give ultimate depiction to four principal personalities in this book example, Lydia Strong and her husband Jeff and NYPD Detectives, Matt Stenopolis, and his partner Jesamyn Breslow. Not forgetting the suspense about feeling of enigmatic about Lydia and Jeff's employee and their friend Dax that holds the book lover acclimated to any additional evidence that may possibly be revealed.
Similarly adored the spins as Lydia and Jeff examined their hunt of the indications on the finding Lily Samuels and split additional about "what If". The suspicions they thought they should pursued in a different way for the reason that they had not made the appropriate explanations of the hints. Neither the incidents arising and as a substitute of deciphering a situation they were increasing the peril to the missing lady life along with any others involved.
Unfluctuating as an action-packed book, suspense novel normally follows one path of pursuit. But with the smoke it is quite different the writer took her own plot and involving many different plots that in the end touches many other investigations. Which were steps taking by the polices and the private investigators responsible for the job of finding the killers and the criminals. The suspenseful story offering the possibilities and alternatives in the heart of cracking criminal activities involved with the New-Day church. Excellent and interesting deliver with many mesmerizing effects coming from the New-Day organization. Correspondingly providing the compassion and awareness toward the job done the police and the investigators. The true nature and complexity of their job including how complex and why factual investigations becomes time-consuming.
The takes on the case of the missing girl Lily Samuels who was a student of Lydia's. This investigation covers on the suspicious "religious" organization, A New Day. Whose responsible for all categories of killings and suicides that occurred and the findings from the police and the private investigators groups. This two team worked the case the police leaving the case in the hands of the private investigators. On the other hand, there is also the side story about Mount and Jessamyn, police officers in the missing persons department, who had to give up the search for Lily, but turned it over to Lydia and Jeffrey. However, they never forgot that case
I would highly recommend this novel to anyone interested in investigations and criminal books this is very fascinating book and there is more to look forward. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Having recently discovered the author 'Lisa Unger,' and thoroughly enjoying her work, I decided to go back to the beginning and try her early books. Her first books were about the character 'Lydia Strong,' and while I could tell she didn't have the same kind of experience writing this series as her more current books, was still entertained by them. This fourth installment involving Lydia Strong is the best of the four, but I still recommend reading all of them from the beginning since it really helps to understand her character, and the development of the other characters associated with her. You can tell that the author was more confident in her writing by the fourth Lydia Strong book - there's complexity and nuance. I still prefer her newer work but have decided this is worth a four out of five rating.
