About this audiobook
When the class plans to visit the library for the first time, the students prepare themselves for the worst -- a dark dungeon of rules and misery, run by creepy monster-like creatures who laminate children if they even whisper. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5One of the "Black Lagoon" series, I got this book as a gift when I started library school. The bulk of the story humorously describes the frightening rumors and myths a child has heard about the school library and librarian. The illustrations are very funny, colorful, and fun. The story ends when the children actually visit the library, and see that it is a great (and not scary) place. My only point of disagreement is that the book spends about 25 pages depicting the library as a dungeon full of monsters, and only about 5 showing it as a fun and friendly environment. I'd like to see it portrayed a little more evenly! Overall, kids will enjoy this book for its comical illustrations. Librarians will enjoy it for the Dewey Decimal and "overdue" jokes!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I can see where the humor in this story would really appeal to younger kids! :)
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Yikes! How can you not love a book by this title?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Funny, as always. I read this to first grade classes when I was an elementary school librarian and, frighteningly enough, they seemed to relate to the ideas.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I know a lot of people like the Black Lagoon series, but they don't do anything for me. I think the kids who are in lower el, don't get the humor.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Once again that little boy has heard only extreme stories about this librarian- she’s the most fastidious, OCD librarian imagineable! When he gets to the library, he finds just the opposite- she’s friendly and fun.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I read this to my third through fifth grade classes on the first day of their library class. It's a great ice breaker for the new year. The kids love the humor.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Kids of all ages will love this book. Kids are sure that going to the library on a class trip is going to result in them being eaten or tortured by the evil librarian from the Black Lagoon. Wonderful, funny story.
