Author

Katherine Mansfield

Katherine Mansfield was a popular New Zealand short-story writer best known for the stories "The Woman at the Shore," "How Pearl Button Was Kidnapped," "The Doll’s House," and her twelve-part short story "Prelude," which was inspired by her happy childhood. Although Mansfield initially had her sights set on becoming a professional cellist, her role as editor of the Queen’s College newspaper prompted a change to writing. Mansfield’s style of writing revolutionized the form of the short story at the time, in that it depicted ordinary life and left the endings open to interpretation, while also raising uncomfortable questions about society and identity. Mansfield died in 1923 after struggling for many years with tuberculosis.

A wonderful collection of the short stories by Katherine Mansfield. The stories a beautifully written, each with its own unique feel and vibe. I loved the way I could dip in and read at my leisure, each time taking away a renewed love of short stories. My favourite of the collection is ‘The Doll’s House’ which captures the heart of being a little girl showing of her prized treasure. This book is a must for all Kiwi book shelves.

This is the first book of stories from this author that I've read. I found the stories to be rather dark and discouraging. I also did not like the bad language in. I continued listening to it only because I needed a book of short stories to fulfill a book club requirement. I don't really recommend this one.
