About this audiobook

Eleven thousand years ago, before the seas swallowed the Atlanteans, Poseidon assigned a few chosen warriors to act as sentinels for humans in the new world. There was only rule-desiring them was forbidden. But rules were made to be broken...

Riley Dawson is more than a dedicated Virginia Beach social worker. She's blessed with a mind link that only Atlanteans have been able to access for thousands of years. Being an "empath" may explain her wistful connection to the roiling waves of the ocean, the sanctuary it provides, and the sexual urges that seem to emanate from fathoms below...

Conlan, the High Prince of Atlantis, has surfaced on a mission to retrieve Poseidon's stolen trident. Yet something else has possessed Conlan: the intimate emotions-and desires-of a human. Irresistibly drawn to the uncanny beauty, Conlan soon shares more than his mind. But in the midst of a battle to reclaim Poseidon's power, how long can a forbidden love last between two different souls from two different worlds?

I think I'm going to love this series. Went out and bought the rest since the library doesn't carry them. So excited!

It was like the BBD with Atlantis thrown in. Hot immortals fighting for the humans and finding their soul mates..mmm herd that before. The story was interesting with the Atlantis and Poseidon's trident myth's being told. The writer knows how to use a thesaurus, which added more depth to the story. It was a bit more PNR than I enjoy reading. I like the love, but I love the story. SO, I will read the second one some day, but no rush.

Conlan, is the high prince of Atlantis and soon to be crowned King. He has recently returned from being tortured and captured. Now he has returned to his home, but still feels shattered on the inside. When the Tritan of Poseidon goes missing, he and his team must go after those that stole it, and travel up above the sea to the humans. Riley Dawson, is a empath and a social worker, and even though there are times that she loves her job, at this moment she hates this job. She has a case where someone gets murdered and there was nothing she could do to stop it. So feeling like she is suffocating, she goes to the sea ,where she will feel peace and be at calm, but then she gets attacked by three men and is saved by a gallant warrior, who is unlike anything she has ever seen. Beautiful, powerful and he shares a emotional bond to her. He can hear her thoughts and emotions, and she has no idea what to make of him. Even though Riley is human, Conlan feels a connection to this woman the likes of which he has never known. He knows that there is something uniquely special about this fragile woman who has wormed her way into his soul. When Conlan and Riley get thrown together, and battling for their lives, they get taken on a adventure dealing with werewolves, vampires, the powers of the gods, and a powerful love and passion that will sweep them up....I have heard so many amazing reviews about this series, and considering how much I am a fan of mythology and especially when you mix it in with a steamy romance, I just can't resist for too long. So I decided to try Atlantis Rising at Audible, which I got a good deal for. Atlantis Rising is the first installment in the Warriors of Poseidan and captivated me from the first moment. The voice of the narration is Joshua Swanson, and at first I had a hard time with his inflections, but after a little while, I started to really like him quite a bit. There were some of the voices of the other characters I didn't like too much, but the main characters and narration of the story, he did a tremendous job at. There were many times I just wanted to stop everything that I was doing just to listen to this, but alas I have responsibilities, so there were times I had to push pause. From the first, I was captivated by this richly filled plot and the connection between Riley and Conlan was instantaneous, there was no long wait period, it happened instantly and their relationship only gets stronger the more they are around each other. It starts out pretty intense, on both sides of Riley and Conlan. We see Conlan after returning from being a prisoner, and then the story takes us to Riley who is fighting a inner battle of her own. They meet when they least expect to meet their future soul mate, but stranger things have happened. The story takes us along as the plot thickens, and events go from intense to mind blowing action. There is quite a lot of action that goes on, as well as mystery and intrigue, and there were many times I had no idea where the story was going to go next. It had a surprise at every corner, some good and some bad.The Characters in this story were such a delight to get to know. I feel like with a audio book, you get to know them more. I felt like there was so much emotion portrayed in the narration, it almost felt like you were actually in the story, and it leaves you with a sense of reality, when it really is just fiction--much to my disappointment LOL. Conlan, is the leader of his people, and has gone after the Tritan which has been stolen. When he goes to retrieve he comes across his mate. Conlan is very Alpha once he meets her, he is very possessive and commanding, and has the stereotype of a prince. However there was more to Conlan than met the eye. He had many vulnerabilities as well, he had recently suffered a trauma and so Conlan comes across as the "Tortured Male" type, but the author does a fantastic job of putting this character in. Its always a good thing when the characters seem real and human. Riley is a unique heroine, and I loved her character quite a bit. In the beginning you see how vulnerable she is at times, but you also see the inner strength that shines. She isn't weak or passionless, she just hides it better than most. Riley has some special talents, and is a empath, We have the introduction to her sister, who is so opposite from Riley it isn't even funny. Riley is tender hearted, compassionate, and loving. She can fight if the situation calls for it. The relationship between Riley and Conlan is complex and yet has a simplicity to it too. I enjoyed the journey they take us on, and the romance is sweet and full of sensuality.Overall I couldn't help but fall head over heels in love with Atlantis Rising. There was so much depth and characterization packed in this book!! It was a blast going on this adventure and learning of this world that Day has created. I just got the second book in the series, so I can't wait to read Ven's story. Atlantis Awakening here I come!

Interesting combination of drama, sex, and violence. The mix of Atlantians, vampires, humans, and shape-shifters (weir-creatures) seems a bit odd but is amusing. Blended with this is a mix of sword fighting and magical powers. The author seems to like providing graphic descriptions of sex and gore (during battle and torture). The interplay of the characters is sometimes bordering on truly stupid. This is not an intellectual book or something to be read for ideas to contemplate or learn from. This book is strictly for entertainment and the level of writing is rather poor. Regardless I like stories of bravery and quests, so I am willing to put up with the lousy writing of the author.

The Story: Conlan, high prince of Atlantis, returns home after years of captivity only to discover Poseidon's Trident, a powerful artifact, has been stolen by a rebellious faction. He and his men travel to the surface in pursuit. There he encounters something unbelievable--a human woman with Atlantean powers. As if he didn't have enough problems, his irresistible attraction to her may jeopardize his mission and his kingdom. This is the first book of an ongoing series, The Warriors of Poseidon. My Thoughts: This is a book in the tradition of the Dark-Hunters and the Black Dagger Brotherhood... you've got a connected group of hot, lethal, superhuman men who run around saving the day. Each warrior has his own curse, his own issue, thus leading us through a variety of salty goodness and world save-age while working up to the yummiest morsel of the band. In this case, the morsel is definately Alaric, Conlan's childhood buddy and voice of cynical reason. Or maybe that's just me. In other words, this book may have been only so-so but I have every intention of checking out the rest of the series.Recommendation: Read for the sake of future and potentially more interesting characters.

Ooooh, what a fun book! Atlantis Rising is the first in the Warriors of Poseidon series by Alyssa Day (aka Alesia Holliday, though this book is vastly different from her chick lit women's fiction and her mystery books).Atlantean prince Conlan has returned after seven years of torture at the hands of Anubisa, the vampire goddess. Nobody has escaped her torture still mentally sound--until now--and there were those who believed him dead, and of those who know he's alive, quite a few believe he must be damaged, despite the fact that the high priest has said he's not.The perceived void in the succession has caused a pretender to rise up, and he's stolen Poseidon's trident. Conlan and his men have to travel to the human world to get it back. There he meets Riley Dawson, a human social worker and empath. Actually, he feels her emotions before he meets her, and feels compelled to seek her out. Such a connection has been long thought a myth, and to experience it with a human is unbelievable. That's the set-up, and the story moves at a rapid pace from there. Searching for and rescuing the trident, deciding what to do about Riley, Atlantean court intrigue, and human/vampire/shapeshifter intrigue all combine to form an adventure that kept me turning the pages as quickly as I could.Conlan's dilemma between love and duty is a classic one--an Atlantean prince and a human woman is just impossible, despite their soul-mate-like bond--but it felt believable. An even more impossible dilemma promises to arise in future books, since there appears to be a bond between Riley's sister, who's also an empath, and the celibate high priest. There's so much going on that it's dizzying at times, but I was never completely asea (geddit? Atlantis? asea? Okay, I know--I'll go get more caffeine.). It's a small price to pay for a complex world that will hopefully host a nice long series.

Riley Dawson is a social worker trying to brighten her corner of the world, one case at a time. She's seen the worse that the world, and the people in it, can do to each other, and yet she keeps on, trying to help where she can. After a particularly rough day, when she could very literally have lost her life, she is forced to face down one more threat: a trio of vampires who want to play before they kill. Conlan, the high prince of Atlantis, who has spent the last seven years being tortured by Anubisa, the vampire goddess of death, is her unlikely rescuer. The unexpected answer to desires she didn't know she had. I have a Thing about Atlantis. I always have, so any book set there or with Atlanteans, real or imagined, is going to get my attention. Of course, with my speed of reading, I've had this book for a while before cracking the cover. I meant to read it on the cruise--how perfect to read about Atlantis while on the ocean, right?--but I didn't realize how little time I'd actually spend reading. So! I've read it now.I think this is the first time that I can honestly say that an alpha hero has not, at some point, irritated me with his bossy, push you around attitude. I'm not saying that Conlan isn't pushy or demanding. I'm saying that it worked for me and not once did I roll my eyes or feel the urge to slap him. And most of the reason is Riley herself. This is a heroine who stands up to the alpha despite the fact that he can easily overpower her. She gives back just as much as she gets, and does it without being a Xena-clone, which makes me so very happy. For once, we have a hero and heroine who really -are- a match for one another, rather than simply having that stated and forcing the reader to try to figure out how that makes sense.I am looking forward to reading stories for all of the Warriors of Poseidon. There are seven of them, so I should be set for a good long time.

Conlan, Prince of Atlantis, had been held prisoner by the vampire queen, Anubisa, for seven long years and finally released for reasons unknown. However, his release coincided with the abduction of the Trident of Poseidon causing Conlan to be immediately thrust from torture to a mission to find the instrument of power. With his body and mind whole but his soul shredded Conlan worries that he will be unable to fulfill his destiny.Riley is a social worker who determined to help those that nobody else cares for. When Conlan rescues Riley on a moonlit beach neither are prepared for the instant bond that would draw them together. In a world of evil vampires, fearsome shapeshifters and ancient warriors will they be able to find a way to stay together against the odds and the Laws of Poseidon?"Atlantis Rising" is the first volume of a relatively new paranormal romance series featuring the chosen Warriors of Atlantis. I found the story to be quite enjoyable, although it seemed to strongly resemble J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood story, just with Atlanteans instead of vampires. This is not a bad thing, I was just surprised by the similarities. The one thing that did bother me was the apparent futility of it all. Why would an all powerful god like Poseidon even need warriors? Circumstances throughout the book seem to indicate that he would have no problem just doing everything by himself (although maybe it just wouldn’t be fun for him to do that. It sure would make a boring story!) However, this isn’t really a huge issue for me, more a little irritation. This is certainly another PR series I am interesting in following along with in the future.

I really don't have a lot to say about this one. It's now a couple of weeks since I finished it and I simply remember it as an okay book. Yes, warriors from Atlantis was a different twist, but really the book was essentially the same as any other of the mid-line paranormal romances out there. It was a satisfying read without anything spectacular to make is rise above the rest. Athough I must say that Poseidon himself was pretty cool, even if he didn't make a physical appearance at all. If you get a chance to read it, it's a pleasant way to pass the time. If you don't, you're not really missing anything major. I may read the second book, I don't know. But I won't be buying it. I'll get it from the library.
