      This is another one of Krentz's book from her Arcane Society series. Grace and Luther make a great team. Krentz's theories on paranormal theories are well-planned and consistent. I like the fact that she keeps introducing new paranormal senses. I think we have the possibility (capabilities?) of having some paranormal senses and have to agree with what she writes in the book that we it's perhaps not because we don't have the capabilities but that we don't use or are not aware of those capabilities. The one thing that I'm disappointed about is the fact that Krentz seems to give her woman heroine strength and power but in reality never seems to be always bowing to a male hero. That the women's role is to supplement the man's more powerful paranormal sense or to his vast experience. She often calls the women assistants rather than having the men as the assistant. This series is consistent and for it to cross time and have stories in the past, present and future is a different twist. If you like to read about paranormal experiences and like a little romance this would be a series you would enjoy.

      Outstanding!

      Ex-cop Luther Malone, is not perfect by any means. Divorced twice, walks with a cane, a bit mysterious and dangerous, yet there is a protective, caring, charming side to him that makes him an irresistible hero. Handsome, quiet, and oh so sexy, it is easy to see why Grace falls for him.

      Grace Renquist is running away from a troubled and deadly past, when she is assigned to work with Luther on a routine J&J investigation. Smart, witty, and a strong talent, Grace is the perfect partner for Luther.

      The romance sizzles. The danger is thrilling. The characters are dynamic and well developed. Krentz adds some interesting talents - like the Siren, and a clever plot mixed with genealogy, the founders formula, and a bunch of misfit talents who must work together to prevent NightShade from their devious plans.

      Great mix of paranormal, romance, and suspense!

      Synopsis
      Working as a librarian for the Arcane Society, Grace Renquist has secrets she is desperate to keep. Assigned to partner former police officer, Luther Malone, who shares her ability to read auras, Grace fears that her past will return to haunt her. Caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse with operatives from the renegade group known only as Nightshade, Grace and Luther must think on their feet and combine their resources if they are to survive dangerously potent powers enhanced by the founder's formula.

      A fun read but not as suspenseful as some of the others in the series.

      Luther and Grace are a typical Krentz couple. She is intelligent, feisty and damaged in some way while he is tough, sexy and absolutely irresistible. They have intense chemistry and their paranormal abilities complement each other - Grace profiles auras while Luther manipulates them. Nevertheless, their romantic relationship materializes too rapidly with very little development.

      The writing and dialogue are smooth as usual, however, the suspense plot is ultimately predictable and the threat posed by the villains is scarcely threatening. Moreover, the pacing is a little off with numerous superfluous explanations that fill in gaps rather than developing the story and characterization. The Nightshade plot is overly complex and even though some questions from previous books are answered, there is insufficient information on the origins and progression of the organization.

      The secondary characters are entertaining such as the band of misfits Luther hangs out with in Hawaii and Fallon Jones who seems to have bitten off more than he can chew. His character is very intriguing and I look forward to his book.

      All in all, quite entertaining for those times when you want an uncomplicated read.

      Luther is a former cop with a bad leg. Grace has been hiding since her previous boss died a year ago. They are both psychic and when teamed up together to profile one man, they uncover an even bigger plot. Add in a sinister opera singer and you have a great suspense story. Very enjoyable.

      Luther Malone used to be a cop until his psychic abilities made too many people suspicious of him, he also hates guns and walks with a cane. Grace Renquist is also psychic but her touch can kill. Grace is sent to see if a suspect is truly guilty by reading his aura and while the two of them investigate this they find themselves caught up in an even bigger set of trouble, not least of which is the two of them being strongly attracted to each other.It's pretty predictable but it was a fun read. The two characters spark off each other well and while the issues appear to have mpstly resolved themselves, I can see where the cracks might appear later.

Over the years I've collected just about everything that Jayne has written under this name and her pseudonyms Jayne Castle and Stephanie James. I've read a few of the Amanda Quick series, but I'm not a real fan of historical romances, so I haven't been as diligent to read those. That said, when the new book came out I had to rush out to the bookstore and pick up my copy of her newest Arcane series and I wasn't disappointed.To be honest I was a little worried about this one because I read the last Jayne Castle book Dark Light and it took me a little to get into it. Although, once I got past the repetitive first few chapters, it turned out to be a pretty good book. I didn't have the same problem with Running Hot. It was a fast read and action packed all the way through. I loved the characters and felt they worked well together.Although Jayne pretty much explains the whole Arcane Society theme in Running Hot, I would recommend that those who haven't read the previous books in the series try them. It would be good to become familiar with the plot of the stories and some of the characters mentioned in this book. For example, Zack Jones is talked about several times in this book. He had his own story in the previous Arcane book Sizzle and Burn.One other note: For those who are Jayne fans and read her Eclipse Bay series you might remember not all together there character Arizona Snow. Jayne reintroduces readers to Arizona Snow in Running Hot giving readers a completely new explanation on why Arizona acts the way she does. Bringing Arizona in was just a fun side note to this book. It's all just part of the charm that can be found in Jayne's books.I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good love story with sweet love scenes. The paranormal angle takes the reader away from any sort of reality, but the ideas are original and the story line is clever.It'll be interesting to see if Fallon Jones get the next Arcane Society book. The more we see Fallon in the series the more interesting his character becomes.

      Another modern-day Arcane Society novel from Krentz, one of the better entries in the series. Grace may be a mild-mannered librarian now, but she has a troubled past and her aura talent can kill. Luther is a disabled former detective retired to Hawaii; his aura talent can dampen emotions. When they are teamed up to scope out a suspected serial killer, things get very tense, very fast. The romance is here, and some hot sex, but this is primarily a suspense novel.

      Running Hot focuses on Luther Malone and Grace Renquist. Both are members of the Arcane Society and both are aura talents. Grace, a stronger aura talent can also profile a person based on their aura field. Luther and Grace end up being hooked up to locate a killer in the Hawaiian islands. Having never met before, Luther and Grace both have different opinions formed of the other prior to meeting at the airport. They find that they were both wrong and the attraction is intense and immediate. Once they begin their mission, they are linked and are able to help each other through the twists of the plot.OK...I was hoping for more from this book. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, but not as much as I had hoped. It was a bit predictable as far as the mystery portion of the plot. The smut factor was pretty good, as Luther and Grace instantly were attracted to each other. There was a pretty even balance of mystery/romance in this book, where some of the previous were heavier in the mystery part. Having read other Arcane Society books, I felt that this one gave more detail than was necessary about the characters talents. Having said all that, I still look forward to the next book in the series because I think that I can predict that Fallon Jones may be a main character.

      For some reason, I liked this book more than a lot of the contemporaries that Krentz has done recently. The characters seemed less cookie cutter and the plot was interesting. The ending seemed a little rushed though. However, like all of Krentz's book, the prose moves you quickly through the book.

      I love Krentz's 'Arcane Society' books. Her latest in this series is the contemporary "Running Hot". This series is about a society of individuals with paranormal 'talents'. The series began with historicals, but a few years ago Krentz came out with a contemporary about the descendents of the characters in her historicals. Are you following? Anyway, her books have sizzling attraction, suspense, light action, and mystery. I enjoy getting to know each new player in this series along with their particular 'talent'.What happens when two off-the-chart aura talents get together? Immediate attraction, for one. Grace and Luther are much more comfortable working alone, so when they're assigned the cover of a married couple, neither is too sold on the idea...until they meet. It doesn't take them long to realize how well they mesh, both psychically and physically! Now if they could just get rid of the bad guys and the wacko opera singer (that's right, wacko opera singer) they could get on with their lives!Fun and engaging. Onto my keeper shelf it goes.
