About this audiobook

In a world where "witches, vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters live beside ordinary people" (Booklist), it takes a very unusual woman to call it home. By day, Mercy Thompson is a car mechanic in Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with some unusual talents, Mercy's found herself maintaining a tenuous harmony between the human and the not-so-human on more than one occasion. This time she may get more than she bargained for.

Reviewed by: Rabid ReadsThis installment picks up right where the last one left off and by right I’m talking like one split second later. Well, let’s just say that things don’t go quite as I had envisioned them. In Bone Crossed Mercy is still recovering from what went down in Iron Kissed so she’s not her usual spunky self and unfortunately for her, things aren’t really looking all that up either. In book 4 Briggs finally sheds a bit of light on one very important unanswered question and seriously, Adam Hauptman is just SO freaking awesome in this installment!Bone Crossed has a much darker tone than its predecessors and it also felt like a stepping stone to the next phase of this series. Mercy’s finally solved her relationship dilemma but instead of running into her beloved’s arms she’s trying not to scream every time someone touches her. I felt so horrible for Thompson in this installment; she’s hurting bad and unfortunately for her, the only cure is time. In other news, the reason why vamps are so afraid of walkers is finally becoming clearer and Thompson takes her newfound powers for a test drive. I’ve been anxiously waiting for this aspect of the story line to develop and I can’t wait to see how much more butt Mercy is going to kick in Silver Borne!I really liked Chad, Amber’s son. He’s a brave kid who’s similar to Thompson in a lot of ways and I loved their interactions. The child challenged her at every turn and I liked that Mercy treated him as an adult and also worked at earning his trust. Stefan lost a few points with me in this book; I found his behavior to be a little suspect and now I’m kind of glad that he was never a real contender for Mercy’s affections. Better the devil you know… unless they are a vampire! The romance between Adam and Thomson is tender and sweet which was not at all what I expected from an alpha werewolf! Hauptman is so incredibly patient and understanding of Mercy’s needs; it just made me love him even more! I’ve enjoyed watching their relationship grow and change over the past four books and hope that they’ll get a bit of a break in the next novel because they need time to reconnect. And, ya know, I also need some Adam sexy time! After finishing Bone Crossed my only thought is: thank goodness book 5 is already waiting for me on my shelves!

The premise: book four picks up right where book three, Iron Kissed, ended. Make no mistake, you cannot read this book without books two Blood Bound and three Iron Kissed under your belt. For that matter, you may, like me, have a hard time getting up to speed even if you HAVE read the second and third books, because not only does Bone Crossed pick up exactly where Iron Kissed left off, but it the central plot involves the mistress of the Tri-City vampires learning the truth of Mercy's actions in Blood Bound, and now, Mercy's got a death mark on her hands. To make matters worse, she's still struggling with the events of Iron Kissed, and then a long-lost college friend shows up at her doorstep begging for help to get rid of a ghost. But just like everything else in Mercy's life, there's more to the ghost than meets the eye, and once more, Mercy finds she's in for more than she bargained for.My RatingBuy the Paperback: but that's advice is given with caution. I still don't believe any book in this series really, truly warrants a hardcover release, and so my rating is given with that in mind. It's not the strongest book in the series, and I couldn't help but feel that during the first hundred pages, Briggs was struggling to find her story. However, this is a book that really needs to be read rather quickly after Iron Kissed, so if you consider yourself a die-hard Briggs fan, you may want to go ahead and spend the extra dough for the hardcover. And if you're willing to wait for the paperback, I would suggest going back and reviewing the events of Blood Bound and Iron Kissed right before reading Bone Crossed, because I read those two books back in August and I was still having trouble with details. But on a whole, it was a good read with much to like and some satisfying elements to the plot and character development, and I'm happy to say I'll continue to read the series. But I won't be buying it in hardcover. I'll buy the mass-market when it comes out and hope I get lucky again (so I can read it sooner than later) when the next book in the series is released next year. The full review, which contains serious spoilers for both this title and the one that comes before, Iron Kissed, may be found in my LJ. As always, comments and discussion are most welcome.REVIEW: Patricia Briggs's BONE CROSSEDHappy Reading!

I enjoyed this book even more during this re-read. This is definitely one of my all time favorite series and I honestly believe that everyone who hasn't read these books yet should run to the bookstore right away and buy them up. This is the fourth book in the Mercy Thompson series and it picks up right after the events of the previous book. It is really important that this series be read in order since some of the events are carried over from the previous book. I really had a lot of fun with this audiobook. On major focus of this Adam and Mercy's relationship. They both really do care for each other and want to make things work. I like how carefully they are with each other. Mercy is a mess after the horrible events of the previous book and Adam is there for her. He really wants to help with her pain and if he could I am sure he would take it away. The mystery in the story is centered around vampires. I like the vampires in this world so that works out well for me. The local vampires have painted crossed bones on the door at her garage and she decides it would be a good idea to get out of town for a bit. Her friend from college has a little problem with a ghost so Mercy goes to help...and runs into more than she bargained for. Stefan plays a large role in this book and really proved how much he cares for Mercy as well.I love Lorelei King's narration of this series. I am amazed by how well she voices all of these characters and keeps things consistent from book to book. The emotional aspects of the story really come through during her narration. I was able to listen to this book for hours at a time largely due to her wonderful delivery of this story. Lorelei King is quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators. I would highly recommend this series to other. This was my second time experiencing this book and I hope to read it again in the future. It is really that good.

    Vampire ghosts: the undead undead?

A few weeks earlier, Mercy killed one vampire too many, and now Marsilia and her vampire seethe have found out. Out of the blue pops her old out-of-state college friend with a ghost problem that she hopes Mercy can help with. What convenient timing.

It is refreshing to read a fantasy series that doesn't get bogged down in world building waffle. Aside from being written as though they are standalone novels - whilst being a continuing adventure - there isn't any fat on this lean series. And as the series has progressed it hasn't fallen into a rut, nor become formulaic. I'm already halfway through the next in the series and enjoying each Mercy Thompson outing as much as the first.

The head of the local vampire enclave, Marsilia, finds out that Mercy killed not one vampires but two, and is now threatening her life and the lives of those she loves. As if Mercy didn't have enough to deal with, she has agreed to be Adam's (the local alpha werewolf) mate and is still dealing with panic attacks after a man raped her. Meanwhile, her old college roommate comes to her and says her house is being haunted - can Mercy help? Is this the perfect way to escape Marsilia while the werewolves deal with it, or is it all a clever ruse to get Mercy away from her friends?I'm still enjoying these stories about Mercedes "Mercy" Thompson, mechanic, shapeshifter/coyote, and woman figuring out how to be independently herself in this world of vampires, werewolves, and Fae in the Tri-cities area of Washington State. I like that a heroine can be courageous and still have panic attacks. I like the world-building. It's starting to get even more violent and I find myself reading more of it rather than listening before bed (imagine the weird dreams...). This one had a couple of issues that made it not my favorite in the series. The main challenge for me was the way the deaf son of her college roommate was portrayed. Don't get me wrong, he's a strong and resilient character. But he can lipread unbelievably well, and his parents sign and talk at the same time (sometimes, amazingly, having two separate conversations?). I'm not a part of deaf culture per se, but have had enough exposure that I'm aware it's very unlikely to have that good lipreading unless you were deafened or hard of hearing later in life. It's much more likely that they would've communicated in writing. So that pulled me out of the story and annoyed me quite a bit. Still, Mercy's a strong heroine and I'll read more of her adventures.

Feels a bit of a holding book, just keeping the characters ticking over, but actually it's quite interesting and quite a fast finish.Mercy was only just starting to recover from the dramatic conclusions of the last book when her Vampire 'friend' Stefan turns up in her home as close to re-dying as is possible for a vamp to get. It's thought worth her trying to get out of town for a bit while the werewolves intervene with the local vamp Boss. Coincidently and only slightly suspiciously and old friend has got in touch asking for help with a ghost in her home, something that Mercy had a little reputation for. The town is thought to only have 1 vampire: powerful but relatively reclusive and antagonistic to Mercy's Boss, and hence safe enough for a couple nights. Of course he turns up on the first dinner. I enjoyed this, Marcy managed pretty much on her own with friends there, but not taking over. It expands her abilities but only along existing lines, and so keeps everything believable.

Soo I don't like the vampires (Stephen included he's just not as bad) and this book is full of them. Stephen.....ugh did I mention how annoying his infatuation with Mercy is?
I love the Adam and Mercy parts. Though I am annoyed by how he doesn't explain the pack bonds/magic to her and expects her to get it on instinct. Other than that I think he's great.
    Worried about Sam though.
Love Mercy's mom and her Barbie gun

Not sure what the point of this book was, other than setting up future story lines.

Oh those vampires are at it again, and Mercy's actions have come back to haunt her. With this book, I loved the way that the past became prologue and things we saw in the previous books have consequences, and dire ones at that. This is a great way to deepen and seed a world with new ideas and new adventures, as well as provides the hungry reader with more information and more detail on the character.Mercy's voice shines here as she's placed in difficult circumstances. We learn more history about a previously-mostly-secret group of characters. It's tough when we get to the middle of a series to keep interest high and character involvement high, but this is exactly what this book does, and it's just as excellent a read as the previous books.

Patricia Briggs is very consistent in her writing; the characters and events in her Mercy Thompson novels always seem to read true from one to the next. Bone Crossed clearly follows Iron Kissed, although the beginning follows so closely that I felt lost for the first few paragraphs. While the plot itself seems to be even more outlandish than expected (as much as a fantasy/horror series can seem outlandish), the latest installment will continue to entertain Mercy Thompson fans.

The more books I read in this series the more I love it!!!
Mercy & Adam are great together and I really like where their relationship is going...more so since the author didn't forget to focus some of her attention in the storyline of other characters like Stefan and Samuel, without whom (in my opinion) this series wouldn't be this good!

Another great Mercy book. I really liked Patricia Briggs showing that after what Tim did to Mercy in the last book didn't just go away. She carried it over to the next book and showed Mercy struggling with what happened to her. It wasn't just dropped and Mercy was fine. I really liked this book. Wonderful read.

The adventures of Mercy Thompson continue! Ah me, these books are fairly bad. I've read a lot of vampire/werewolf urban fantasy and this series doesn't really distinguish itself. That being said, it's still fun and keeps me reading. Ultimately, that's the purpose of books. In this installment, Mercy finds herself the target of Marsilia, head of her local vampire seethe. Mercy can't say she's surprised, after all, she did kill two of Marsilia's vampires. Still, when Stephen turns up in her house, shriveled to a barely recognizable husk, she's a bit freaked out. Weirdly enough, just as she's looking for a place to lay low, an old roommate from college turns up on her doorstep with a problem only Mercy can solve. But is hiding away in Spokane a smart move, or just another foot in Marsilia's trap?

Stefan really comes through for Mercy when the head of his seethe is out to get her. The vampires are a major part of this story. Mercy is still struggling from her torture from the last book. She suffers panic attacks and can't stand being touched. Adam is trying to help and brings her closer into the pack. When she is offered a chance to help a friend in another city she goes. This brings on another major amount of trouble for Mercy and her friends. She meets some scary and very interesting creatures while on this trip.
A great installment in the story. Mercy never lets her friends down no matter the cost to herself.

For some reason, my review and rating are gone, so my review won't be as detailed as before.

I do love the Mercy Thompson books and have read most of them. I don't remember much about this book, just that it wasn't as strong as the other in the series. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy reading it. It was just more info added into learning about Mercy and her life.

Mercy is not my favourite series from Briggs. I definitely prefer her Alpha & Omega series. Anyway, this book is quite a nice read.

Mercy is healing after the events in the previous book surrounded by the pack and her friends. But she is brought into a complicated game played by the vampire mistress Marsilia. Unexpectedly she is also asked for help by her old school mate whose house is hunted.

The plot is okay but it's not really memorable. I don't think I will be remember what happened after a week or so. The good thing is that Marcy is no longer involved in the love triangle with Samuel and Adam. I hate love triangles, so her blooming relationship with Adam is a nice thing.

I will keep on reading this series while waiting for another addition to the Alpha & Omega series.

Mercedes Thompson is a biracial mechanic who also happens to be a were-coyote raised by werewolves. She's in a complicated relationship with the local Alpha, Adam, and bffs with several fey and a vampire. It's these tangled relations and alliances that create the problem she finds herself in: in the last book, Mercy killed a vampire, and now his Queen is out for revenge. Meanwhile, an old friend comes asking for Mercy's help to deal with a haunting.

This book is a little heavy on the pack dynamics and vampire politicking for my tastes, but at least it doesn't drag. Mercy's adventures are always a good, fast read, and Mercy herself is a great, well-rounded character. Paranormal books like these have a tendency to be mostly about who the main female character is sleeping with, and the Mercy Thompson series is a blessed relief from such considerations, while retaining the charm (tough main character, modern setting streaked with magic, realistic dialog) of the genre.

I was a bit disappointed with this book. After the amazing and awe-inspiring third book in this series, I expected this one to be a home run, or well, a grand slam - if I am using baseball analogies. It seemed like the whole climax of the story was rushed through, I would have loved to have a better description of what went on when Adam and Mercy finished bonding, and also more about the mysteries stick that keeps following Mercy around, although it finally comes in handy in this book. I did like that we learned a bit more about Mercy's powers, and met some new and different characters. I am also still completely in shock and awe of what the mistress did the poor abused Stephan, that was just messed up. This book is a good read to hopefully bridge for a better book in the 5th installment of this series. We shall se

I like this series a lot. This book was particularly good. The plot was stellar and there were some fresh characyers and we got to know more about Stefan which I like. This series reminds me of the Laurell Hamilton books about Anita Blake without all the gratuitous and kinky sex, and without lengthy discussions of clothes, interior design and weaponry. Also this has fewer vampires which is a plus.

Very interesting this book was. Questions were answered and left me wanting more. I hate what happened to Stefan. That's just wrong and I want Marsilia to pay dearly for what she has done. Blackwood would have been awesome if he hadn't been such an asshole. I am amazed by how quickly this series is moving along time wise. It works though.

Mercy Thompson novels are moving up on my favorites list. The action is always gripping, but it's the humanity of the characters, even the ones who are inhuman, and the eternal truths that Briggs is able to distill and expose so efficiently that I really admire. I like quality in even my junk reading, and I can count on getting here. I wish the series was bigger.I really liked the Oakman character and I hope he shows up in future books.

    Bone Crossed
    4 Stars

Bone Crossed is a solid addition to the series and Patricia Briggs does an admirable job in dealing with the aftermath of events from the previous book. Nevertheless, several issues continue to rub me the wrong way. There is still an obvious lack of positively drawn female characters - Marsilia is evil, Aurelia is prejudiced and Amber is an idiot, Briggs' religious agenda has been toned down but still pops up every now and then, and Mercy is still not as kick-ass as she could be.

Mercy is an engaging character, however, Briggs attempts at reinforcing her resilience, courage and fortitude are constantly being undermined by situations in which Mercy appears submissive and weak. The most obvious examples are her interactions with Blackwood loss of free will, forced blood transfers - seriously? and the deus ex machina ending.

It is great to see Mercy and Adam take their relationship to the next level, and Adam is definitely one of my favorite heroes in the UF genre - he knows exactly what to say and when to say it *sigh*. That said, given the build up and anticipation, the much awaited sex scene leaves much to be desired.

On a more positive note, the plot is well developed and engrossing (although any resemblance between the blurb and the actual story is superficial at best). More details are revealed about the intricacies of vampire politics as Stefan's loyalties are put to the test, Mercy's abilities as a Walker are explained but there is probably still more to come in this area, and the villain is one of the creepiest in the series so far.

In sum, Briggs is a talented writer and her Mercy Thompson series is fun to read despite the problems outlined above. Finally, Lorelei King's narration is excellent and she is skilled at bringing the characters and events to life.

Four books into this series and I'm still basically enjoying it. However, this one played heavily on Mercy's status as a recent victim and it seriously compromised her previous impression as a strong, unflappable character. (Someone please tell me why it's required that so many UF/PNR heroines have to be traumatised at some point? I don't get it.) I disliked this and just plain got tired of it. I understand she can't be expected to have healed instantly, but half the book was dedicated to the aftereffects and her response to being attacked in the last book. IMO, not fun, not fun at all. Writing is still good. Editing is still good. The rest of the characters are still fun. I did find the frequent recaps of previous books repetitive and distracting. Plus, the challenge to overcome was both diluted by virtue of being two-fold and I felt overcome too easily. All in all however still a good book.

I was prepared to dislike this book, as the synopsis didn't sound all that interesting to me, but the author did an excellent job defying my expectations. I was dreading the whole aftermath of the last book, but found myself admiring the way she handled Mercy's recovery. I also dreaded the whole vampire-revenge storyline, but the plot-twist was excellent! I genuinely enjoyed the first 80% of the book. The part I liked the least was the end, which, I suppose, wasn't written to be liked. Ms. Briggs does evil well. However, she gets points for not dragging the ending out so very long and I liked the way everything wrapped up quickly and satisfyingly. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.
