      Singh's Psy-Changeling series is quite possibly the best paranormal/romance out there right now. With two in the series and one on the way (Caressed by Ice), it's fresh with an exciting futuristic world that little others have touched on. A world of the Extra Sensory Perception and Changlings (otherwise known as the "Were"), so incorporated into normal life, it has it's own set of rules to govern it.In Visions of Heat, we have an off the scale Future Seeing Psy named Faith who can predict the future with amazing accuracy. A member of the Psy race, she's not supposed to feel- emotions have been shut down under the cloak of the Silence- but when she starts having visions of death she can't help but feel the suffering about to come down . In anguish not only from the visions but also for fear of her mental stability she decides to take control.Before the governing council of the Psy shut her down- permanently- she leaves her secluded compound to seek out Sascha Duncan- a female member of the Psy race who dropped out of the PsyNet (Whose story is in Slave to Sensation), something unheard of up until now. Sascha is now part of the Changlings, mated with a wereleopard and alpha to the DarkRiver pack.Before she finds Sascha, Faith meets Vaughn, a steely Werepanther from Sascha's pack, who begins to make her feel other things that at first is difficult for her to process. He leads her to Sascha and it doesn't take them long to discover a new menace is on the scene- one created from the same sickness that has infiltrated the PsyNet that created the menacing serial killer that once hunted the changlings in Slave to Sensation.As they get closer to the new menace, Vaughn and Faith find themselves becoming closer as well. When Faith is finally able to realize that the people she trusted all her life are not quite what they seem, she makes a final break that brings her into a new world she never imagined possible.Full of action and steamy sensuality, Visions of Heat is a page turner that grabs you and doesn't let go until the end.VOH also gives more explanation into Singh's world so be sure you don't miss this one if you're starting this series.

      The gender stuff was more prominent in this one, which was just weird. But this one was really good

      Faith Nightstar, is a F-Psy, having the ability to foresee the future and has been using her gift she was three years old. However of late, she has been seeing visions of blood and murder, and knows that it can't be a good sign. But despite the fact that she has a powerful ability, her mind is very fragile, and can't stand to be touched, or she could overload and her fear is that she would die because of it. Then she goes in search of Sasha, knowing that she is a fellow Psy that won't betray her to the council. But as she escapes the compound that she has been shielded in for most of her life, she ventures out into the real world, not knowing what to expect. Then comes face to face with the Changeling Vaughn D'Angelo, who is drawn to Faith, despite his distrust for the Psy. Vaughn, the moment Faith enters their domain, stalks Faith, not fully realizing how drawn he is to her. But while Vaughn is intrigued by this one woman, he knows he has to be careful because of the fragile state of her mind, but he senses that she is stronger that she even knows. However there is a danger to them both, for the Council will not voluntarily give up such a asset as Faith is. But will they be able to overcome all that stands against them to have a future together?Visions of Heat is one of my favorites of the series, and I am so glad that I got my hands on this sensational read. I loved reading Vaughns story, and it was a wonderfully written story that I delighted in. Vaughn a jaguar changeling and part of the DarkRiver pack. Due to certain circumstances in his growing up years, Vaughn is more animal than man, more so than most changelings. So when he meets Faith, he distrusts her at first, but there isn't a cold scent that he despises in most Psy, and knows that she is his mate and yearns to teach her emotion and pleasure that can be found in his arms, but knows he must tread carefully because of her fragile state of mind, not wanting to cause more harm than good, but knows he can't wait too long to satisfy the demands of the animal within him. Visions of Heat was like many of the other books in this series, a sensational read, that had me hard put to ever put it down until I finished it. I found the plot to be mind blowing, the characters engaging and real, and filled with such suspense, mystery and passion that I had a hard time keeping up, with such action packed romance that will have you spinning in sensations. Definitely another winner in my book!!!

      Really good follow up to book one! I'm glad we're continuing to learn more about this world through these characters.

      Our characters in this book are Vaughn, who is a jaguar changeling, and Faith, who is a very powerful F-psy, meaning she can predict the future. Faith was especially interesting to me because we were able to learn a lot more the psy through her character. It's really hard to make your characters interesting when they're supposed to come from an emotionless species. I did take me a bit of time to warm up to Faith but she approaches the changling pretty early on and from there I liked her.

      Vaughn was a fun character. He is a little closer to his animal side and that makes him more interesting. There were some moments between Vaughn and Faith that I really liked. I really like the way mating works in this series. It's not the same sort of instantaneous thing you often see but rather a gradual realization that they're mates that I really liked. I really liked seeing the changling world from Vaughn's eyes rather than Lucas. Vaughn is a sentinel where Lucas was an alpha so we get a different look at that dynamic in this book. I can't wait to read some of these other characters romances.

      The plot of this is somewhat similar to book one. I mostly liked the plot for what it taught us about the world and not for the plot itself. There are some parts that were intriguing but mostly it was enjoyable but nothing too special. The characters are definitely the focus though I did like the mystery element.

      I can't wait to continue with this series. I already have book three on hold at the library and I'm very excited for it.

      I would’ve cut out about 30% of this book. The romance felt super sidebar, and the trials the gang goes through felt redundant. It took me forever to read the last 40% because it was just not engaging anymore. I kept getting the impression that the book should’ve ended and then something new happened, so I guess, like this review, the pacing was all off..

      The second book in the series is very similar to the first one with a female Psy falling out of the the regimental life of Silence [a emotionless existence] and falling for a changeling. Faith has foresight and uses it in the business world only to make money for her clan. She is starting to see death instead of stock swings and starts hiding these changes from her handlers. Vaughn is a changeling that catches Faith climbing the walls of home to escape. They team up in and in the end they become a mated pair and she is able to leave the group mind of the Psy.

      At this point I know every book in the series I read will be about 2 people meeting and falling in love and at least several hot sex scenes. But what has kept me interested in reading the books is the society that she has built with the humans, changelings and Psy. That the Psy part is crumbling is the part I like and how that is handled in the books.

      I read this for the Diverse Voices square for Halloween Bingo

      Blood dripped down pale green walls, soaked into the slightly darker carpet, splattered the comm console. A charnel house she could smell—hints of putrid death hidden in the iron-rich taint of blood. Revolted, she could do nothing as he walked farther into the room, placing his feet in the dark red liquid that had once run in a living being’s veins. The blood in the bathroom had had nothing to soak into. His feet slapped into it with a splash.

      This is the second book I've read in the series and while its about shapeshifters, a sub-genre I'm not usually about, I can't deny the certain je n'ais se quoi about it. However, I also can't deny that I'm pretty sure there is a solid 30-40% that I don't understand, lol. The PsyNet where all the Psy minds are connected, along with the Web of Stars and now the addition of a separate Being that is the PsyNet??? I'm hanging on my fingernails on this wild ride.

      Taking out for a second the sci-fi paranormal stuff I don't always fully get, the world and wide cast of characters are infinitely fascinating, I'm curious about all of them. The serial killer mystery here wasn't explained fully to my satisfaction and for being an important catalyst for our heroine, it was kind of ignored. While the relationship between the hero and heroine was sexily satisfying, I'm not sure I felt the emotional build up; they had chemistry but didn't emotionally draw me in beyond that.

      I'll definitely be reading on in the series as the next book looks to be about Judd, the dark Arrow Assassin.

      Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series is a fascinating world to inhabit. I’ve always been intrigued by psychic phenomena, so having an entire fictional race of psychics in these stories is appealing to me, even if a lot of them tend to become the antagonists. For this reason and for its contribution to the greater story arc, I enjoyed Visions of Heat. It may be only the second full-length novel of the series, but I can tell that it’s moving toward something big, possibly a revolution that will change the Psy forever. There are a lot of powerful characters who can make that happen, too, and I look forward to reading their stories. Also the emergence of the NetMind in this book was a very intriguing and surprising development. I can’t wait to learn more about it and see where this part of the story goes. So from this perspective, the book was a good installment of the series, but I did have some issues with the individual character and relationship development that I’ll get to shortly.Vaughn is a DarkRiver sentinel who has been with the Pack since he was a juvenile. Unlike the other Pack members who are leopards, he is a jaguar. After he and his sister were abandoned by their parents, Vaughn tried his best to keep them both alive, but he wasn’t yet old enough to make it on his own. His sister died shortly before he was found and taken in by DarkRiver. In part because of his past experiences, he’s wilder than the other Pack members, almost bordering on being feral in nature. He’s deeply loyal to his Pack, but when something seems to be drawing him to a remote outpost that’s inhabited by Psy, he finds a brave, little Psy within who makes his inner beast purr with lust and an overwhelming need to protect her. All the heroes I’ve read in this series so far have been pretty intensely alpha, but Vaughn is perhaps a little more so. However, once he’s bonded with Faith, he calms down some, at least when she’s present. I appreciated Vaughn for his loyalty, protectiveness, and acceptance of Faith as his mate, but I think because of his extreme alpha nature, I didn’t fall for him the way I have with other romance heroes. In fact, during the first third or so of the book, he was rubbing me the wrong way with his insistence upon repeatedly touching Faith even to the point of overloading her senses so that she passed out, when she kept asking him over and over again not to. I sort of understood what he was trying to accomplish and that his cat senses were telling him that she needed to be brought out of Silence quickly, but it still made me pretty uncomfortable that he was continually going against her clearly expressed wishes. I think it could have been written differently so that either she was more accepting, or better yet, he was a bit more gentle about it. Later, after the mating bond takes over, I liked Vaughn more, because I think it softened him a little.Much like with Sascha, the first Psy heroine of the series, Faith has lived in Silence, the Psy protocol for suppressing all emotions, for her entire life. However, her gifts are different in that she’s an F-Psy who can see the future. As such, she’s incredibly valuable to her PsyClan for her ability to predict financial markets and other lucrative ventures that bring millions of dollars into Psy coffers that can also benefit humans and changelings as well. F-Psy also have a heightened sensitivity level that make them more susceptible to going insane, so Faith is kept in isolation so as to not overload her senses. She has been trained to use her gifts exclusively for business, so when she sees her own sister’s murder and begins to experience visions of the killer stalking other prey and feels a sentient darkness closing in on her, she fears she may be losing her mind sooner than expected. Afraid to tell her father or her Psy handlers, she instead goes in search of Sascha, the only Psy she might be able to trust since the other woman is no longer a part of the PsyNet. Since Sascha is now mated to the alpha of DarkRiver and lives in their territory, Faith is taking a chance by going there, but she’s intercepted by Vaughn who gives her an escort. At first, she’s reluctant to accept that she’s attracted to him, because it’s something she thought was conditioned out of her. However, when Vaughn saves her by pulling her out of one of her dark visions, she knows that she needs him. Faith begins the story as a rather cold, unfeeling Psy, but once she begins breaking Silence, she blossoms into a fullness of emotion that brings her more freedom and peace than she’s ever known. I liked Faith, because having lived an isolated life, she has a more shy nature, but she also has just enough spunk to stand up to Vaughn. Also once she gets in touch with her emotions, she has a very caring side that makes her want to use her visions to help others rather than exclusively to make money.While Vaughn and Faith were pretty good characters, I did feel like there was a little something missing in both their characterizations and their romantic relationship. Each of them have a decent backstory that could have been rich for emotional exploration, but I didn’t really feel like it fully got to that point. Their respective pasts are something that are simply put out there with few details to show me how it affected them, so I didn’t get a full sense of how these events have impacted who they are now. Also Vaughn is apparently an artist. It’s mentioned a couple of times that he’s working on sculptures, one of which is of Faith, and there’s one scene where we briefly see him at work on his creation, but that’s it. There’s no unveiling of something special, like showing the statue of Faith to her, and no real sense of why he does it, other than a mere hobby. It would have been nice if the author had gone somewhere with that part of his characterization, because as is, it didn’t add any real value to the story. Lastly, the romance is pretty much a magical thing that just happens. I never got much sense of when or why Vaughn and Faith fell for one another. I realize that for Vaughn it had a lot to do with his mating bond, but even in were-creatures who have this feature, I need to feel that all-important connection and understand what it is about the other person that makes them fall in love. The emotional connection for me didn’t really come into play until Faith had fully accepted that her future was with Vaughn and had taken that step into his world.Visions of Heat contains a plethora of supporting characters, many of whom have their own books in the series. We get a return visit with Lucas and Sascha (Slave to Sensation) who are pretty integral to the story line, as well as a few sightings of Nate and Tamsyn (“Beat of Temptation” from Wild Invitation). All the DarkRiver sentinels are there to protect both the Pack and Faith, including the taciturn Clay (Mine to Possess), and the latent Dorian (Hostage to Pleasure) about whom Faith has a vision that gives hints of what his future may hold. We also briefly see the SnowDancer alpha, Hawke (Kiss of Snow), and his right hand woman, Indigo (Play of Passion). Then there’s Kaleb, a Psy who is pitted against Faith for the empty seat on the Council. He’s said to be ruthless enough to do anything, including murder, to eliminate anyone he views as competition, so I was very surprised to find that he becomes the hero of Heart of Obsidian. And last, but not least, we learn a new tidbit of information about Judd, the Psy who went rogue with his family and who is currently being harbored by the SnowDancers, when he helps Faith deal with the serial killer who murdered her sister. Judd is every bit as intense as the leopards, and he’ll be paired with SnowDancer wolf, Brenna, in the next full-length novel, Caressed by Ice. She is mentioned to still be recovering from her ordeal in Slave to Sensation under the care of Sascha and Tamsyn.Other than feeling that the characterizations and romance itself weren’t quite as good as they could have been, the only other thing that bothered me was that I detected some passive narration. It was partly in the form of occasional non-active sentence structure, but it was also because of incomplete sentences. I apparently overlooked this in the first novel, because based on this book and one of the prequel novellas, this appears to be a quirk of Nalini Singh’s writing style. If I’m going to continue reading the series (which I plan to), I suppose I’ll have to tolerate it, but it is rather annoying, especially since it’s an easily fixable problem by simply adding a verb and/or slightly rearranging the words to make the sentence complete, which would also make it actively worded. Otherwise, though, this was a good story that brought up a number of intriguing elements that I’m eager to find out more about. I’ll definitely be looking forward to seeing where the greater story arc goes, and hoping future romantic pairings will be a bit stronger. But in spite of my perceived weaknesses in Visions of Heat, I still enjoyed it and I generally liked the characters as well, even if I didn’t feel like I got to know them as well as I wanted to.

      I wanted to give this a 5 star, because it was amazing, but I felt like there needed to be more angst (?) from Vaughn. It was very amazing. I liked the whole zomg she's going to break down because he touched her hair. lol. Nalini Singh is an amazing author. I've thoroughly enjoyed everything I've read by her. This series is very unique. With the way that the Psy are, and how different they are as a race from the changelings, I would absolutely say that this is a must read. I like how affectionate the changelings are with each other, and not just their mates. There is such love and trust and loyalty between them all that if anything were to happen to them that it would totally be devastating.

      In Visions of Heat, you are starting to see a change in the Psy. More are starting to question the council. and there is talk of rebellion on the PsyNet. This makes the next book very high on my next list of books to read b/c I really wont to know whether or not there will be a rebellion, or if the council will discover the talk. It seems as though more are experiencing emotion. But they just don't know it is emotion. So yea very very happy with this book. The romance was great. I loved the characters. They were awesome.

      Synopsis
      Faith Nightstar is an F-Psy, i.e. she can foresee the future, and as such is a significant source of income for her Psy family. Unfortunately, Faith is suddenly experiencing visions of horrific murders and fears for her sanity. When Faith decides to seek the help of a Psy defector, she finds herself immersed in a world of touch and sense, and must choose between the only life she has ever known and an all-encompassing passion for the enigmatic Jaguar Changeling, Vaughn D'Angelo.

      There are intriguing developments in the overall story arc with much of the focus on the political and psychic aspects of the Psy race. Additional information is provided on the origins of Silence, the nature of the Council and the initial sparks of rebellion amongst the Psy.

      The basic plot is virtually identical to Slave to Sensation with a serial killer on the loose and a Psy female and Changeling male working together to uncover his identity. Faith is strong and independent, and Vaughn is sexy as sin but their individual backgrounds are not as compelling as those of Sascha and Lucas in book #1. Moreover, their romance is is too slow out of the gate and their chemistry virtually non-existent. Other than sexual attraction there is little to explain their relationship. For these reasons, it is difficult to become engrossed by their story.

      The writing is easy to follow although there are several repetitious events (climbing over fences, Faith losing consciousness, roaming about in the PsyNet, etc.) and the last few chapters are too drawn out. In addition, the serial killer plot ultimately fizzles out and the tension and suspense that characterized book #1 is completely lacking.

      Overall, not as satisfying as the first book in the series but I will continue as the world Singh has created is very compelling and I am intrigued by the secondary characters.

      I am completely and utterly addicted to this series and this is only book two. I can't even articulate all the reasons why I love this book. This book is a comforting normal paranormal romance yet it is different enough to keep me reading and hooked on every single word. I love the unique-ness that is the Psy-Changeling world and how the author weaves them together eloquently.

      I love the instant attraction and devotion the Changelings feel for their heroines yet the heroines must learn to love their heroes at a normal (for a romance book) pace. I love the heat and steam between Faith and Vaughn, it is crazy hot and super addicting, I found myself thinking of skipping pages just so they could be together again. The plot of this book isn't lacking either, there is intrigue, drama, and actual plot lines to follow and not just dreamy romance. I also enjoyed seeing the characters from the first book interwoven into this one as well.

      I am sure there are so many more reasons I loved this book but I can't think of anymore now. You NEED to read this series if you love paranormal romance.

      Faith NightStar lives in splendid isolation predicting things for her clan, her skills are valued, because they make money for the clan. They guard her carefully, she lives on the borders of Changeling territory and there's something out there acting as a lure for her. She's also worrying that her mind is going early, most F-Psy, predictors, go crazy before dying, particularly when she experiences a death in her dreams. She finds out that she's actually experienced her sister's death and that theres' someone stalking Psy. No-one wants to believe her, Silence should have quelled this urge in Psy, but something is lurking on the net.Faith decides to explore outside her enclave and encounters Vaughn, a panther shapeshifter. They find that there's something between them, something that they can't ignore, something that will change her life.It's not a bad read, I would probably have rated it better if I had read it before some of the better later works, but overall it kept me reading and I wanted to read more afterwards.

      This book was just okay. As much as I loved the really interesting, complex world building, that didn't make up for my serious dislike of the overbearing, possessive alpha male hero and the somewhat bland heroine. I have almost all the books in this series, so I'm going to give the next one a try but I'm thinking maybe PNR is just not for me.

      This wasn't quite as good as the first book, the ending (the last 50 or more pages) dragged. The writing could have been more concise there but otherwise it was very good. I'll definitely be reading the next one when the new cover comes out next month.

      I'll give it a 4,5 stars review, but only because I think Faith played the victim card a little too much in the beginning, but then she became this very interesting character that had her way of thinking and some spine. Vaughn was deliriously dangerous and delicious at the same time and Faith is a very, very lucky girl. I'm excited to read Judd's book. :)

      I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Anglea Dawe, so my review is based on that version.I am really enjoying the Psy-Changling series. I can’t help but think of the Psy as Vulcans (I know my trekkie side is showing) with their non-emotional links to everything. The case of Faith NightStar goes beyond even the regular psy treatment as she is kept isolated from other people so she can sit in a monitored chair all day and give physic predictions. During some of those sessions, Faith has a prediction of a killer. Since psy are supposed to be emotionless it doesn’t seem possible that there is a psy killer. So of course, she thinks she is going crazy and that any day now she will be taken away to the funny farm.Not only is Faith emotionally isolated from others but physically isolated also. That is until the changeling Vaughn stumbles across her isolated (but very well guarded) compound.Vaughn, who is kind of a loner himself, takes it as a personal challenge to break in and see what is going on. Just as he is about to break in, he sees Faith breaking out. He is drawn to touch Faith at every possible moment. For a women not used to being touched it takes all Faith’s willpower (or won’t power in this case) to keep away from Vaughn. His closeness overwhelms her senses and sends her into an emotional overload. He is convinced she will get used to it, she is convinced it will kill her.Although I enjoyed this story overall, I think there were some HUGE leaps made in this story. For example, if I was as emotionally and physically sheltered as Faith was, I don’t think one of the first places I would reach out to touch a guy would be on his ‘manhood’. I think that would be one of the last places I would be able to handle. Think about the emotional turmoil that goes with doing something like that during a regular relationship. Just saying …. The Narration ReviewThis audiobook was narrated by Angela Dawe. Once again, I felt like she was rushing through the book. Maybe she had a time slot she needed to get this book into, I don’t know. I always find myself checking to see if I accidently set my iPod on 1 ½ speed. LoL

      Finally, I'm starting to fill in the blanks and pick up some of the earlier books in this series. It was nice to read Faith's story - since she had been in a number of the books I've read but I did not know her background. She is quite a strong character. And it was refreshing too, to have some of the concepts explained to me and begin piecing together the plot. Really, reading these out of order is like doing a complicated jigsaw puzle. I'm enjoying the individual stories, but missing out on the wider plot. Good, not quite as filled with sex as the other ones, which was good because it left more room for actual plot. I love the concept of the psys and the changelings and how well imagined Singh's world is.

      However, in contemplation a few things bothered me - the identity of the killer - he was never named, nor was his victim - she was never even seen. Did either have any importance or were they merely just a ploy (by Singh) to get Faith out of her protecive bubble.

      Why did it took me so long to get back to this series? I forgot how much I liked world of Psy & changelings... Not good as the first book, but still entertaining...

      Having read this, some things in later books now make a lot more sense! In general this series does't seem to require reading in order, but I wouldn't skip the first two if at all possible.

      I loved this book even better than the first in the series. It flowed better and the character of Vaughn is very well written. I am still warming to Faith. The love scenes are a little more R rated than in her first novel. The one nitpick I have, is that Vaughn "bonds" a little too easily for his nature... but I still loved this book. ( I am re-reading the series in anticipation of the next release in June of 2013. I am not much for re-reading as there are so many good books out there to be read, that I hate to spend time rehashing old reads. That really speaks to how wonderful this series is.)

      If you read my review of Slave to Sensation then you know how much I adored it and became a huge fan of the Psy-Changeling series. As soon as I finished Slave to Sensation I picked up Vision of Heat and it definitely did not disappoint.Faith Nightstar was a very different heroine from Sascha but she still grabbed my heart and Vaughn was smoking hot as well. Lucas is still my favorite but Vaughn gave him a run for his money. The story itself continues to get more complex and fascinating. The political intrigues will keep readers on their toes and wonder who can the Changelings truly trust. I finished this book in a day as well and it was killing me that I didn't have the next book and my library didn't have it either. Times like this really makes me miss having a bookstore down the road (or even in the same town!).

      I definitely liked this book better than the first Psy-Changeling novel. This was a much fuller story. I had the sense that the author had a plan as she wrote this installment. In Visions, Singh has developed her vision of the future, and she has the perfect tool: a character deeply entrenched in the world and workings of the cold, mentally gifted Psy. Whereas the first novel's protagonist, Sascha, lived on the fringes of her community as a "defective" Psy, Faith is a highly valued and carefully protected F-Psy (a foreseer), a cornerstone of the Psy's world. Her problems affect everyone. In this book, we learn more about the ruling Psy Council, the Psy's history, the Net and of course, about the advantages that make the ruthless Psy a formidable power, where before we were offered only vague, unformed notions. Perhaps what makes this much development possible is the science, or rather science fiction, which grounds the novel. Singh bases a lot of her world on technology that actually exists (and a lot that doesn't). For example, the Net that connects the minds of the Psy is very reminiscent of our internet, if we could access it through the convenience of our own minds, LOL. Take that, Verizon™. It's details like these that really make the tale richer. It's easy to envision the world Singh crafts. I have to respect an author that takes such care to research and shape her characters' society. It's clear when an author's put forth that effort. It was chilling to read about the cutthroat Psys, where children are planned and produced, where a father constantly watches his child, ready to coldly betray her to a tyrannical government if she betrays any sign of a conscience (see Equilibrium). Government in a romance novel-- unheard of, LOL. All the manipulation and propaganda and sci (I think a character at one point even mentions "doubletalk")-- loved it. Singh must be well-read. Since Faith is important to the government and the governing Councillors are kind of the -brilliant and brutal- villains in the book, the conflict's on a broader scale and, to my mind, much more bold and epic. Faith is powerful and she has perhaps as many reasons to fall in line with the government as to fight them. That's another interesting conflict. She's not just a working Jane who finds she has certain gifts and then stumbles on a killer. She's trying to move societies, stir rebellion-- and set us up for sequels, LOL. And for once, a foreseeing character has no qualms about using her gift for profit-- she profits and then some. In fact, in Singh's world, forecasts are not only a matter of course. They're business and very clinical too. However, lest you think I'm describing a scifi book, let me tell you about the other side of the coin: the changelings, werecats who are decidedly of this world. Singh does take some liberties with cat dynamics and behavior, but they're still recognizable, climbing and all. Vaughn is more animal than most, even his changeling fellows, and it was certainly interesting to read about a man who is never quite human. That comes across very well, when Singh writes that "an animal looked out through his eyes," but while Vaughn is as possessive and fierce as you'd imagine (whew), he's no Caveman. He's an intelligent fella and sometimes he understands Faith's people better than she does. His advice to her is invaluable and he patiently pushes Faith to step outside her bounds. His perspective seemed much more present in this book than Lucas was in the first. I would have liked to have learned more about his character, but there was action to plot and a world to build.There was much more romance in this book than the first. Faith's relationship with Vaughn and her progress as she breaks her binds is the central focus of the book, but there is a suspense subplot, a murderer on the loose. All in all, Visions was like a paranormal romance wrapped in 1984 goodness, which was pretty much a match made for me, LOL. When a novel's grounded in years of literature and science and ideas, it tends to be a Good Read. Now I have to read the other books involving yummy secondary characters Singh not-so-subtly hinted at in Faith's "visions." If you're a fan of alphas, romance, shifters and scifi, I recommend giving this a try.

      Faith's delicacy got a little annoying at times; at other times, she seemed a little haughty, which I disliked. Other than that, I liked it.

      Review for “Vision of Heat” by Nalini SinghThe second in the Psychangeling series, it is set in a place very different from our own. Psy talent rules the world. Changelings are paranormals that can shift into animals. The two species are separated by one strong difference. Psy are taught not to feel emotion. Changelings live by it. Faith Nightstar is a Psy so insulated from humans and changelings that touching alone can sent her into seizures. Vaughn D’Angelo is a changeling jaguar who will not let her retreat into the emotionless wasteland that she is bound for. But the Psy have no intention of letting such a valuable asset go, or have a mind of her own. I enjoyed to book, not a book of great depth or far reaching plots. It was a fast read about an interesting world.

      Faith NightStar is an F-Psy who can forecast the future and this talent is the reason she has been kept in isolation in her own compound almost her whole life. She sits in a chair day in and day out predicting the future for businesses and thereby making the NightStar clan extremely wealthy. But lately she has been having disturbing visions of murder.Vaughn is a changeling who takes jaguar form and one night comes across Faith's compound and senses her inside. He is drawn to her and becomes determined to go in and claim her but to his surprise she climbs over the fence of her compound to him. Vaughn is an alpha male any girl could love :) He's arrogant and possessive and accidentally pushes Faith into sensory overload. Faith gradually adjusts to him and her character grows from a rather fragile woman to a very tough and brave individual. Vaughn is overly protective but Faith is equally determined to exert her independence. The relationship that develops between Faith and Vaughn is deeply emotional and the love scenes are erotic and passionate. I love it when the hero falls head over heels before the heroine and Vaughn knows that Faith is his mate long before Faith accepts it.PsyNet stuff is very convoluted and complicated but I made a conscious effort this time to read this stuff more slowly to try and really understand what was going on and I think it helped. I still found some things too confusing but the relationship between Faith and Vaughn was so overwhelmingly satisfying that I found myself not really caring about the PsyNet and it's weirdness. Or the murder mystery that was just a side plot. (Grade: A-)

      From the very start of this amazing series, I've found myself submerged into the Psy-Changeling world right from the first page. I feel like I'm there, like I am part of this unique world. I loved Slave to Sensation and I found myself falling for Visions of Heat just as quickly. Now I have to wait until I can get the other books in the series in order to continue, which is a very hard thing to do because the series is so good, so addictive that you can't put the book down until the end, and even then you are unwillingly to see it end. Nalini Singh has created a lush paranormal world that is filled with cold, insensitive Psy and the sensual, hot-blooded Changelings....Perfect combination, and when they get together-- WOW! The sex scenes are everything a woman can ask for in her romance novels, not sleezy or porn like, but a nice combination of erotica and tender love. Word of Caution to any Future Readers of These Books? HAVE A FAN NEAR BY BECAUSE YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF THINKING 'WOW, IT'S GETITNG HOT IN HERE!' Which is a good thing, really, if the author is able to make you hot and sweaty while reading the book while still holding onto the deeper, more heady feelings of love and trust between the characters. Everything I said in my review for Slave to Sensation applies here: Sexy, hot, alpha males, wild, delicious, thrilling, compelling, et cetera. Visions of Heat is a perfect continuation of her heady Psy-Changelings Series, drawing on all the emotions that humans and Changelings hold so dear to them but the Psy have blocked...until now, until these strong Psy women have broken through the Silence and tamed the wild beasts who are their mates. I can't say enough good things about Nalini's books, but you have to trust me when I say that they are a definite must read for any paranormal romance fan. If you love authors such as Christine Feehan, Lora Leigh, Angela Knight, or Alyssa Day, you will love Nalini Singh too! 5/5 STARS! A great series, a spectacular book, definitely one that you will find youself drawn to again and again. The perfect combination of love, sex, passion and thrill, Visions of Heat will pull you in from the first page and only let you go after the last word, while still whispering in your ears Come back for more....

      People love this series and rave, but it somehow doesn't do as much for me, I don't know why. I find it vaguely derivative and formulaic, though that shouldn't bother me, because I read this genre all the time. I guess I don't really believe in the characters. If Faith Nightstar had really been raised without human touch since age 3, she would be far more damaged than she presents. I didn't mind Vaughn as a hero, and liked the inter mingling of cat and human perspective but it didn't sing to me and I won't need to reread it.
