A Perfect Life
The epitome of intelligence, high-powered energy, and grace, Blaise McCarthy is an icon in the world of television news, asking the tough questions and taking on the emotionally charged issues of world affairs and politics with courage and insight. A single mother, she manages her well-ordered career meticulously, always prepared on the air or interviewing world-renowned figures and heads of state. To her audience, Blaise seems to have it all. But privately, and off the set, there is another untold story she has kept hidden for years.
Blaise's teenage daughter, Salima, was blinded by Type 1 diabetes in childhood, and her needs have kept her away in a year-round boarding school with full-time medical care and assistance ever since. When Salima's school closes after a tragedy, Salima returns to her mother's New York City apartment, and suddenly they face challenges they've never had to deal with before, and that Blaise feels ill-equipped to handle. A new caretaker provided by Salima's school creates as many problems as he solves. Handsome, accomplished, thirty-two-year-old Simon Ward, with strong opinions on every topic, questions how mother and daughter view themselves and each other. Simon opens new doors for both of them and refuses to accept Salima's physical limitations. He turns their world upside down, and the three become friends.
Then everything starts to unravel and Blaise can't keep her two worlds separate anymore. A beautiful young anchorwoman is hired at the network; it is no secret that she is being groomed to take Blaise's place. Her career as she has known it is threatened, and her previously well-ordered life feels totally out of control. For the first time, Blaise's life is not perfect, but real.
In this unforgettable tale, the incomparable Danielle Steel has written a novel that pulsates with emotion and honesty as three people face the truth about themselves. A Perfect Life is about what we do when facades fall away and we can no longer run from the truth. As old ideas fail, everything changes, and life is suddenly brand-new.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5"A Perfect Life: A Novel", by Danielle SteelNews anchor Blaze McCarthy is at the top of her career when her daughter's aid passes away suddenly. She is then forced to spend time with her disabled daughter. She usually visits her daughter at school because it's easier. Salema is brought home to New York for the two to get reacquainted. In the normal Danielle Steel fashion there are challenges throughout the book and of course romance. "A Perfect Life", was just okay for me it was a different storyline than usual, but didn't really flow like her books usually do and it was very predictable from the beginning. Danielle Steel is definitely my favorite author and I am usually really happy with her books, but this one was just ok.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A Perfect Life," is a perfect Danielle Steel novel. I found the three triangles in the book intriguing, and engrossing - Salima, Blaise, and Simon; Simon, Megan, and Blaise; and Blaise, Andrew, and Simon. How will it all turn out? The good characters are super good and the bad characters really evil or weak. So, will good prevail? You know the answer if you're a Danielle Steel fan but this didn't stop me from reading the book; and I was certainly rewarded!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5AUTHOR: Steel, DanielleTITLE: A Perfect LifeDATE READ: 10/06/14RATING: 3.5/C+GENRE/PUB DATE/PUBLISHER/# OF PGS Fiction/2014/Delacorte Press/306 SERIES/STAND-ALONE: SATIME/PLACE: Present/NYCHARACTERS: Blaise McCarthy/TV news reporter icon; Simon Ward/special ed teacherFIRST LINES: Crowds of students began congregating outside Royce Hall Auditorium at UCLA 2 hrs before Congressman Patrick Olden was scheduled to speak, an hour before they opened the doors. COMMENTS: Pleasant enough, nice characters. Life is perfect w/ all the adaptations and life's controversies message was fine. From the outside Blaise @ 47 looks to have it all as the top news journalist on TV -- roving the globe interviewing world leaders and celebrities. However, she hasn't had a real true intimate relationship in 2 decades. Her job is always at risk w/ new management and the next younger "best thing ever" that appears to threaten her job. She has a daughter who has diabetes and is blind. Her daughter has to come home from school in MA and due to Blaise's work commitments and travel schedule she needs a full-time caregiver/teacher for Salima. She reluctantly hires Simon not thrilled about having a man in the house but he is qualified. Simon is from an academic family and is 15 yrs younger than Blaise. Their relationship develops slowly and has some bumps in the road w/ both partners having unresolved relationship issues from their pasts. A nice read, but really not one of her better ones.
