About this audiobook

Includes a special sneak peek of THE WAGER by Rachel Van Dyken! The #1 New York Times bestseller... "I have a proposition for you." Kacey should have run the minute those words left Seattle millionaire Jake Titus's mouth. It's been years since Kacey's seen her childhood friend Jake, but the minute Jake mentions his ill grandmother, Kacey is ready to do anything for the sweet old woman. And if that means pretending they're engaged for her sake-so be it.

But Kacey wasn't counting on Jake's older brother Travis still being there. She calls him "Satan" for a reason: she's never forgotten the way he teased and taunted her. Yet when they meet again, Travis's gorgeous smile is a direct hit to her heart . . . and Kacey's more confused than ever. As the days pass, only one thing starts to become alarmingly clear-she never should have accepted Jake's deal . . .

At first I was really confused who will Kasey end up with. I was tempted to read spoilers. But I'm glad I picked the right person.

    Great book. Very good narrator
    Couldn’t put it down

Weird....... i like that grandma loves them enough to get involved and match make- but the scenes where all the family are around and people are suppressing erections is soooo awkward and not at all sexy.
The brother vs brother stuff has potential but when she’s comparing the 2 i definitely cringed.
Too much of the same misunderstanding cross communication stuff repeated for ‘suspense’.
I feel like this was a ‘Christian Romance’
Story line not awful. Execution.... ooof.

It is a fun little romance as Kacey and Travis bumble around and towards each other. But it also sweet as Kacey begins to find out where home truly is as she has put distance between the pain of losing her parents. Being back with the Titus family has opened the door for a new beginning, one that Kacey is surprisingly ready for. Even though she was manipulated in returning, it turns out that she wasn't the only one. Grandma Nadine is one hot mess of a character. She is funny and lovable. I kind of wish that she was my grandmother. The romance was sweet and teasing. Sexytimes were alluded to and teased about, keeping this romance on the tender side of hot, but not too steamy. I will definitely continue on with the trilogy and will check out Van Dyken's other works.

Story was horrible. I tried really hard to finish it, but with an hour left, I just couldn’t do it. One brother was a total jerk, the other a total wimp. Then throw in that she slept with them both (albeit the jerk was in the past) and I couldn’t stomach another minute.

I could have easily finished this in one sitting. I was super entertained throughout. The hate-to-love-you trope is done flawlessly. The banter was awesome. It made me laugh quite a few times. And I found a new book boyfriend. It was a fun book but also super heart-warming as well.

Kinda slow at first. but as it went on it got comical. The feisty old grandma, the player grandson, and the man of every woman's dreams. Parts of it were extremely gripping filled with romance and drama. Parts of it i could not help but laugh so hard. Well written otherwise. Chapters were short to keep you continuing reading.Easy read.I cant wait to read the rest of the series.

At first glance, I thought this looked good, but it didn't jump out at me. A few pages in, I realized it was so much more. There is a lot of depth to this book, and who you are rooting for in the beginning might not be who you are rooting for in the end. There is a tenderness that just jumps off the pages and makes you fall in love. And Grandma is just plain spunky! Great read!

So The Bet left me with mixed feelings. I wanted to like it so much, and I did, I just didn't love it. My main problem was the chemistry between Kacey and Travis. I just couldn't feel it. I felt like most of the book was spent on Kacey trying not to give into her feelings for Jake and get past the hurt he caused her. And then suddenly, hello, she thinks Travis is attractive and they kind of fall together. Ironically, I like the Kacey and Travis I saw in The Wager (Book #2) more than I liked the view of their relationship in this book. We start off with the jerk brother aka Jake pleading with Kacey to be his pretend fiancee to get him out of trouble with his family and his business. He needs a cleaner image and Kacey can help him with that. However, even in the end I saw no change in Jake's behavior. He seemed like a selfish prick and I wasn't even looking forward to reading his book. No worries, I read it and loved it. Rachel Van Dyken can do 180's with her characters like I've never seen before. Back to the story, while Kacey is visiting the Titus family we start to see bits of Travis' unrequited love for Kacey come up. He's very hostile toward Jake and they way he treats Kacey but, he never really does anything other than stomp off. All the while, leaving Kacey a little flabbergasted as to what just happened, because she hasn't a clue that Travis has feelings for her. The book just seemed a little mixed-matched to me. Like two stories in one. Perhaps I would have connected with it more if the whole fake engagement thing was a prequel and The Bet was more focused on Kacey and Travis. I'm not saying all books should focus on the couple solely but, in this one they just kinda agreed to be together and then that was it. The biggest shining moment in this story- Grandma Nadine. I am requesting a grandmother just like her for Christmas. She is one of the most hilarious character I have read and she got a great many laughs from me.Overall, it was a nice, sweet story. It lacked the heat I usually prefer. I also couldn't seem to connect to the story or some of the characters. But as I have said many times, every story isn't for everybody. If you're looking for a sweet, humorous book- this is it. If you're looking for a bit more substance, angst and feeling- this may not be the book for you. It's all a matter of opinion. However, I do encourage you guys to read the second book, it had a little more meat to it, I thought. Happy Reading!*ARC provided by the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review*

Started a bit slow, but picked up after the first few chapters. It was light and silly, just what I was in the mood for.

I wanted to punch Jake in the junk a couple times, but in the end I couldn't hate him. I have a feeling he'll get what's coming to him.

Aww...it was so romantic in places. And funny in others when they were fighting like children. What can I say? I'm 22 and still play-fight with my 26 year old brother on occasion. I just related to it :P

There were so many things about this book that I truly enjoyed. I LOVE how the main characters interacted, at first they are always fighting or picking on each other. It made it humorous in all the right places and when it was time to be steamy, the switch was flawless! The heroine had been through some hard stuff in her life but because at times, I found her a little too wishy washy and not quite believable in her character or morals so that is the only reason I didn't give the book 5 stars. Aside from that I loved it!! Definitely worth a read!! I received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

Kacey has been friends with brothers Jake & Travis all of her life. In fact, at one time she thought Jake may be the one. So when he calls in a favor and asks her to be his pretend finance for one weekend back home, she agrees. She doesn't except Travis to be there when they arrive (as he was always the brother who terrored her in their younger years - he didn't get the nickname "Satan" for no reason.) But when they meet again, the feelings she seems to be having for Travis are no where near hate...The humor in this book is worth the read, the story comes in secondary to that. The plot was predictable but readable. The flirt between Travis & Kacey is fun (& grandma is definitely a hoot!) Jake kept showing glimpses of goodness but always followed thru with something that helped you root for Travis. Glad I read it. Good, light romantic read but a big dose of humor.I received this book in exchange for an honest review for netgalley.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.Quick & Dirty: A cute love story with some funny moments, but the drama was a little immature. Very predictable plot line and not my favorite characters.Opening Sentence: “Kacey, wait up!”The Review: Two years ago Kacey lost everything. She lost her virginity, her best friend, and her parents all in one night. Life has gone on but it has been hard for Kasey and now Jake is back in her life asking for a huge favor. He is set up to be the new CEO in his families company and he has managed to royally mess up his image by his party lifestyle and being a huge player. His grandmother has fallen ill and she wants nothing more than to see Kacey before she gets worse. So to help Jake with his image and to see his sweet grandmother, Kasey agrees to pretend to be engaged to Jake for a weekend.Kacey never really got over Jake and now being with him again has stirred up a lot of old memories. But the man he has become is so different from the boy she knew and Kacey’s not a huge fan of the new Jake. Kacey didn’t think things could get any worse until she finds out Jake’s older brother Travis is home for the weekend. Growing up Travis did everything in his power to torture Kacey in any way possible. But Travis has grown up and man did he become gorgeous. The more time Kacey spends with him, she starts to wonder if she was in love with the wrong brother for all those years.Kacey is a sweet girl, but she is pretty naïve at times. She wallows in self pity a little too much at times and that made me feel a little disconnect with her. But that being said, I did actually like her, she is honest and she has a spunky personality. She really cares about the people in her life and she would do anything to help them. When it comes to the boys, I didn’t like how confused she always seemed to be. I like a heroine who makes up their mind and sticks to it, but it did add drama to the story.I was not a huge fan of Jake. Sure, he is beautiful and charming, but he is a total jerk. I know that was partly what the author was going for but I felt that it was over done. I wish that you would have seen more of his redeeming qualities. Kacey was in love with him for years and he was her best friend, but honestly I have no idea why. I just thought that his character could have been written better.I really liked Travis. He is kind, thoughtful, and sexy. He has been in love with Kacey pretty much forever, he just had a really weird way of showing her. He was very insecure at times which got a little frustrating for me. I did really enjoy his and Kacey’s romance. They had really good chemistry and some great heart melting moments together. Overall, Travis was a very likable character. This was a good read for me. It had some flaws but it was still a fun cute book. The drama felt a little bit highschoolish to me which I wasn’t a huge fan of. Also, the romance was more rushed than I would have liked. The plot was very predictable and the characters weren’t perfect. But with all that being said, I did still enjoy the book. It was a fast read and it had some funny moments that made me laugh. I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a book with some steamy romance and lots of drama.Notable Scene:Dear God, please have mercy and let him be bald and fat.Slowly, she turned and faced her nemesis.Hell.Would it have been too much to ask for him to at least have not grown into his perfect nose?“Kacey.” He nodded.“Satan.”“Your hair’s different.”Kacey flinched. “You’ve grown into your nose.”Jake walked up and stood between them. “Can you guys at least pretend to play nice?”“No,” they said in unison.“Look…” Jake glanced at his phone. “This is work.I’ve gotta take this. Travis, can you drop me off at thePortland office and then take Kacey to the house?”“Pretty sure Mom’s going to be upset if you don’t make it home for dinner. Not that I’m scared to be alone with this one.” He pointed to Kacey. “But last time we were alone in the car, she nearly killed me.”“Don’t be a drama queen,” Kacey huffed.“Drama queen?” Travis raised an eyebrow. “There was a cliff, snow, and I’m pretty sure Benadryl was involved.”“Always is.” Jake shook his head.FTC Advisory: Forever/Grand Central Publishing/Hachette Book Group provided me with a copy of The Bet. My rating: 3 of 5 starsThe Bet by Rachel Van Dyken is a Forever/ Grand Central publication. This book was released in March 2013. I would like to thank the publisher and Netgalley for the digital copy of this book. Kacey grew up with Travis and Jake. But, Travis was the older, more serious guy that was plagued with a stutter. He loved Kacey, but always managed to do the wrong thing. Jake was just adorable. All the girls loved him, including Kacey. But, at the age of eight, the brothers fought over her and made a bet with each other. They both claimed they would be the one to marry Kacey one day. Fast forward to present day. The two inseparable friends Jake and Kacey have drifted apart after they did the one thing they never should have. Kacey is still running from her hometown and the death of her parents. When Travis and Jake's grandmother begins to have health problems and Jake gets into trouble with his company due to his playboy lifestyle. Jake commissions Kacey to pretend to be his fiancé to repair his image and to see his grandmother again because she had wanted to see Kacey. Kacey agrees to go home with Jake. What didn't occur to her, until it was too late to back out, was having to see Travis again. Kacey did not like Travis because he always picked on her when they were kids and she thought the feeling was mutual. But, once Kacey spends a little time around the brothers she begins to realize she has very different feelings for Travis now. The classic love triangle story with a little bit of twist here and there. For some reason these stories are always fun to read from time to time. I get suckered into the story every time. Travis was the more mature and more sincere brother that really did love Kacey. Jake was just not ready to commit to anyone, and Kacey for sure scared him. Kacey is still bruised from the break up of her friendship with Jake and the inability to deal with her parent's death. Now, she has the chance to finally come to terms with what happened to her family and to decide which direction her life should take. But, what is happening between her and Travis is harder to digest. He runs hot and cold with her . There were some laugh out loud funny moments and some really ridiculous moments that was hard to imagine grown people doing. That was the one downside to the book. Everyone behaved like junior high kids at one point or other. Other than that, I loved the true love Happily Ever After and the promise that we will here more from these characters in the future. Overall a C+
