I enjoyed this series. However, there are points in particularly the first and third books where the plot seems to jump a bit and it feels like we're missing some scenes.

I loved this story and the characters. Jessica and Austin were wonderful. It was nice reading about Texas and learning a little about what the secret service once worked on. I look forward to more in this series and other books by Tracie Peterson. I received this from Bethany House for a fair and honest opinion.

A Matter of Heart by, Tracie Peterson, is the third book in the Lone Star Brides series. While it can be read as a stand alone book, I recommend reading the first two books, A Sensible Arrangement and A Moment In Time, as they introduce many of the characters in A Matter of Heart. The story opens in outside of Dallas in 1896. Jessica Atherton, a child of privilege, is coming face to face with herself and she doesn't like what she sees. She realizes she has been selfish, thoughtless and often cruel. Her friends have distanced themselves from her and she worries that she will remain single forever. She truly desires to change, but her apologies to those she has hurt are met with mixed results. The most surprising comes from the woman she may have been the cruelest to. As for remaining single, it doesn't appear likely as she has a number of suitors. Two very different men fall in love with her and she is attracted to both. One can give her the life she always thought she wanted, one filled with travel and expensive trappings. The other can provide a life that offers different values- ones with meaning. There is more to this story that gives it additional depth. An open case of forged gold certificates and missing printing plates comes to light again. Jessica's friends are threatened and the man she has come to love faces great danger as he tries to solve the case. Has she become secure enough to accept his decision and the outcome? I have enjoyed every book I have read by this author, including this one. She is a gifted storyteller who creates realistic characters and a solid story line. This is a story of faith, love and mystery. I recommend reading this book.I received this book free of charge from Bethany House Publishers and I give this review of my own free will.
