About this audiobook

Darcy Stone is game for anything-except sexy Navy vet and physical therapist AJ Colten, the guy who'd rejected her when she'd needed him most. Now the shoe is on the other foot and he needs her to play nice and help him secure grants for his patients. She needs the money to fund her passion project: rescuing SR dogs and placing them with emotionally wounded soldiers.

AJ admits it-Darcy is irresistible. But he's already been battle-scarred by a strong-willed, vivacious, adventurous woman like Darcy, and he's not making the same mistake twice-until he and Darcy are forced to fake a relationship. Growing closer than they'd ever imagined possible, Darcy and AJ have to ask themselves: how much between them is pretend? What's the real thing? And where does it go from here?

Still the One by Jill Shalvis is a 2015 Berkley publication. I've been reading a lot of Jill Shalvis' books recently trying to catch up on some of her series and so far this Animal Magnetism arc with Wyatt, Zoe, and Darcy has been one of my favorites. Darcy was already emotionally damaged before a near fatal car accident sent her into a nightmare of physical therapy and a long, long road to recovery. Falling for A.J., her PT, was not a good idea, especially since he's made it clear, he's not interested in her that way. Now, she is working for him, which makes being in close proximity to him sweet misery. However, Darcy is given a golden opportunity to help A.J., and gives it her best effort, but may have taken it too far by suggesting she and A.J. are a couple to impress an important client. Now she and AJ must pretend to be in a relationship, and before long A.J finds his resistance to Darcy is breaking down and the walls he's built around his heart are crumbling. But, Darcy is a wild card and it's going to take a lot of work to convince her to give their relationship a shot. I knew Darcy's story was going to be a challenge. On the surface, she is not a very likable person, but upon closer inspection, she is obviously living in defense mode, all day, every day. She is a character that can wear a person out, and she gave A.J quite a workout. I think the thing about this story that makes it work was A.J. His patience is something that makes him good at his job, and so he can tolerate Darcy's outburst, sarcasm, and little fits of drama, even though she drives him nuts. He is so sweet, gentle, and thoughtful, which is exactly what Darcy needs. He smooths out her rough edges, draws out her softer side, and in the process, learns he has been fighting the inevitable for far too long. I am thrilled that Darcy finally got her HEA!! Of all the Stone siblings, she was the one I cheered on the most, I suppose, because I felt her story was the most heartbreaking, but also the most heartwarming. 4.5 stars

Just what I have come to expect from this series!Overall Thoughts: Darcy and A.J. took a little bit to warm up to but overall their love story was just what I expect from this series: a bit sassy, fun, emotional, and smoldering. I really love the world of Animal Magnetism and enjoyed getting lost in it again. If you love animals, love, romance, and characters that are a little bit damaged then you will love this series AND Darcy/A.J.!Audio Thoughts: Narrated By Karen White / Length: 9 hrs and 41 mins Karen nails this series! I have listened to all of these on audio and wouldn't do it any other way. Karen has a way of bringing Jill Shalvis' voice alive and her characters that extra Umph! Jill Shalvis is one of my go-to authors when I want to spend some time with wonderful characters that tend to be drawn inexorably together and have chemistry aplenty. The dialogue is never stilted and the male and female characters are always people that you would want to have as friends. This is the story of Darcy and AJ. Darcy has had a terrible automobile accident and AJ, as her physical therapist, has been instrumental in getting her back up on her feet. Both Darcy and AJ are generous people that do their best to provide for others – AJ through pro bono work with PT patients in need and Darcy through providing service dogs that need a second chance. Both AJ and Darcy have experiences that impact their ability to trust and freely give of themselves to another.

Darcy Stone and AJ Colton both have valid reasons for not getting romantically involved. Still smarting from AJ’s previous rejection, Darcy begrudgingly agrees to help him secure grant funding for his physical therapy patients. AJ is just a reticent as he and Darcy will have to pretend to be a couple; an idea that he is much too eager to explore for real. Can AJ and Darcy get beyond the past and find a future together?

Darcy and AJ’s romance is sweet and the “fake” relationship trope only intensifies their pre-existing chemistry. Given their backstories, i.e., Darcy’s issues with rejection and AJ’s reluctance to become involved with a footloose and fancy free woman, it is not surprising that communication, or the lack thereof, becomes a central focus. That said, the story mostly manages to avoid the silly misunderstandings that usually characterize this type of relationship.

The secondary plot involving Darcy’s rehabilitation of search & rescue dogs is charming, but unfortunately does not play as integral a part as it could have and remains rather underdeveloped. Secondary characters Zander and Tyson are both intriguing and it will be interesting to see if Shalvis develops them further.

In sum, Still the one is another solid installment in this charming series about small town friends who find love in the most unlikely of places.

Absolutely fantastic! Everything you expect from a Jill Shalvis romance. Humor, incredible characters, snarky banter and unbelievable chemistry between the H/h fill this pages of this wonderful book. We've met Darcy in previous books in this series and now we really get to know her and understand the reasons behind some of that bravado. Falling for the oh so hot physical therapist AJ Colten was never going to happen. Nope. No way.

This installment of the Animal Magnetism series is fantastic and a recommended read for everyone.

4.5 Stars Jill Shalvis is a must read author or mine so when Still The One showed up early in my mailbox I knew what I was reading this weekend. While I can’t say it’s my favorite of the series because I did feel like there were a few things left unsettled on AJ’s side overall Still The One was really, really good. The humor and emotion that Jill is known for was felt throughout the entire book and it left me with a big happy feeling and a massive smile on my face which is what I want out of romance books!
