About this audiobook

While nursing a broken heart, Josh Michaels is outraged when a neighbor abandons his very pregnant dog, Lucy, at Josh's Colorado home. But Josh can't resist Lucy's soulful brown eyes, and though he's never had a dog before, he's determined to do the best he can for Lucy-and her soon-to-arrive, bound-to-be-adorable puppies.

Soon in over his head, Josh calls the local animal shelter for help, and meets Kerri, a beautiful woman with a quick wit and a fierce love for animals. As Kerri teaches Josh how to care for Lucy's tiny puppies and gets them ready to be adopted through the shelter's "Dogs of Christmas" program, Josh surprises himself by falling for her.

But he's fallen even harder for his new furry family, which has brought incredible joy into Josh's life. He barely has time to sit down, between chasing after adventurous Sophie and brave Oliver, but when he does, his lap is quickly filled by the affectionate Lola. And Rufus and Cody's strong bond makes Josh wonder about his own relationships with his family.

With Christmas and the adoption date looming, Josh finds himself wondering if he can separate himself from his beloved puppies. At odds with Kerri, Josh isn't willing to lose her, but doesn't know how to set things right. Can a surprise litter of Christmas puppies really change one man's life?

W. Bruce Cameron's The Dogs of Christmas is a charming and heartwarming holiday tale that explores the power of love, trust, and a basket full of puppies.

Synopsis:Josh has a pregnant dog dumped on him and suddenly finds himself responsible for a mama dog and five puppies. He has never owned a dog before and has no idea what to do. He enlists the help of Kerri, who runs the local animal shelter. She promises to find good homes for the puppies as soon as they are old enough. As Kerri helps Josh raise the puppies romance blossoms between them. My rating: 2/5I am actually really annoyed at this book. Puppies and Christmas should be an auto 4/5 for me. But sadly not this book. I loved the general premise of the story but I hated the way it was executed. Let's start with the few things I did like. 1. There were dogs doing doggie things and they were awesome. 2. This is a clean romance. There is no sex and the relationship between Josh and Kerri wasn't overly sexualized. That's about all I can say that worked for me in this book. And that makes me super sad. So, why did I really really not love this book?#1. I didn't like either Josh or Kerri in this book. Both had too much baggage for me to believe either were ready for a healthy romance. Kerri often was "sassy" to the point of being a real b-word. The book is told from Josh's perspective so Kerri ends up feeling underdeveloped. Josh needed to see a therapist. Probably for five or so years before attempting a relationship. I felt both characters had too much dark and complex stuff in their past for the light and fluffy Christmas story I thought I was getting. #2. There is just bad thing after bad thing happening in the book. Some of it felt random and overall it felt like too much. I can appreciate that bad things have to happen to move the plot forward but this felt excessive. #3. In the beginning of the book we are somewhat mislead about Josh. I would have preferred for the mislead to be the reality. What ended up being true about him I didn't like. Overall I enjoyed the start of the book. I did not enjoy the middle and the ending. I liked the dog related stuff but not the Josh and Kerri stuff. This book wasn't for me and I can't recommend. Even though it is dogs and Christmas and should be an auto enjoyable read. To me this was basically a train wreck of a book.

Josh Michaels, a website and user interface designer, still heartbroken from his girlfriend dumping him months ago, has a very pregnant dumped on him by his neighbor. The neighbor has a fraught story of the dog being dumped on him by his girlfriend who left, and having to leave the country immediately to bail out his brother in France. Josh has never had a dog, doesn't want a dog, but when his neighbor takes off, leaving the dog behind, he has to do the best he can.

Especially when the dog, Lucy, goes into labor.

As we get to know Josh, we find he's emotionally traumatized by the breakup of his family when he was a teen, and has no idea how to handle relationships. As he gets to know Lucy, the puppies she raises in his home, and Kerri, the very nice lady from the local animal shelter, Josh gets an education in dogs, but also emotional education, healing, and growth.

And then it's time to give up the puppies to their new homes, and Josh, who has always felt it's his job to keep his family together, decides he can't do it.

Cameron knows and loves dogs, and the people who love dogs. As many times as you'll want to whack Josh upside the head with a clue-by-four, he's never doing something stupid for the sake of the plot. He's doing it because he's emotionally damaged, has experienced rejection too many times, and has no idea how to express what he's really feeling. His pain, confusion, and even his joy when he gets a taste of it, are all quite real.

The dogs, from devoted momma Lucy to sweet, blind Cody, are delightful and heartwarming, and it makes total sense that confused, loyal, emotionally struggling Josh imagines it makes sense to keep all of them. I'm sidestepping the human relationships in this book, but they're well-handled, too.

This is a warm, sweet, heartwarming story. Recommended.

    I bought this book.

Very cute, basically a romantic story with cute puppies frolicking in the background. If I had a complaint it would be that the two lead characters weren't very well fleshed out. But if you love dogs you will like this story.

Josh Michaels, although not looking forward necessarily to the holiday season this year (since he recently broke up with his girlfriend) he is, however, resigned to enjoyed the quiet. When his, not so close, neighbour Ryan shows up begging him to look after his dog while he makes an emergency trip out of town Josh tries to say no, yet before he knows it the Lucy is in his house, her big bag of dog food sitting on the floor next to her food and water bowls. To top it all off, Lucy is VERY pregnant. Before long it becomes more than apparent that Ryan is not coming back any time soon.

There is no better way to describe this book other than endearing and heart-warming. It’s a cute story that anyone who has ever loved a dog will definitely enjoy.

Know what dog lovers love to do? Read about other dog lovers! The Dogs of Christmas is written by W. Bruce Cameron (of A Dog's Purpose) and is the sweetest tale of love, redemption, learning, and of course, puppies! The story revolves around around a man who has never owned a dog (gasp!) and knows nothing about the joy, love and companionship that dogs can bring. He learns quickly and on the fly. The journey is filled with humor, difficult lessons and lots of Christmas spirit. This book is a must read for any dog or Christmas lover. If you love both, this book is your dream come true! I don't want to give the ending away, but I can tell you The Dogs of Christmas is a book that you should fill the stockings with and buy for everyone on your list.

This is a romance novel built around a dog and its life. The dog needs help. Two people, the main characters, independently help the dog.One of these main characters is a handsome young unmarried man with deep feelings but poor communication and social skills. The other is a beautiful woman, a few years younger who also has deep feelings towards helping others, and who works at an animal shelter. Unlike the man, the woman has superb communication skills and has the uncanny ability to sense anyone's thoughts by the tiniest body language or inflection in their voice. But she has trouble reading this one person. This book is hard to put down after the first few pages. By page 50 or so the plot is mostly built and it becomes hard to put the book down. On page 57 the beautiful woman enters the plot. From that point on you cannot put the book down. Best novel I have read in about a year and I'm not into romance novels. This novel is top notch; suspense, humor and romance. The plot is not as predictable as it seems.
