3.5 starsBig Bad Beast is one of those books in the Pride series that I knew I would read, but I didn’t know if I would like. I already had a bit of a hate-on for Dee-Ann after the stunts she pulled in Beast Behaving Badly but I didn’t know how my irritation with Dee-Ann would balance out for my intense love of Ric. I didn’t realize how much I would love the book – or how much I would come to understand Dee-Ann as a character. And I never expected for Dee-Ann to have such a sexy side. Seriously it was a shocker!I never could see what Ric saw in her until I read Big Bad Beast. Dee-Ann is a Smith She-wolf and the feared daughter of Eggie Smith, the wolf with dead yellow eyes and a long kill list. And everyone knows just how similar Dee-Ann is to her dad. After she retires from the Marines she is asked to join The Group, a shifter run agency that will do everything possible to keep the shifter species safe and thriving.I pretty much thought she would wind up getting him killed…or seriously maimed. “You really think you’re cute, don’t you?” He tried to tell her yes, he did think he was quite cute. Adorable, even! But she was gripping his throat in such a way as to ensure maximum loss of breathing, swallowing, and speaking.Everyone is shocked (and a lot concerned) when Ric Van Holtz – a suave wolf known for his flirtatious ways and snobby cooking skills – takes a sudden and intense interest in the cold-blooded She-wolf that is also known for her knife skills. But as the book moves forward I was surprised by how easily these two wolves fit together, even if they come from two completely different worlds.I even learned to love Dee-Ann and realized that while she is a cold-blooded killer that enjoys her job, she also has a heart and a need to protect others. Ric walked over to the desk and yelled, “What I’m trying to say, Dee-Ann, is that you can’t just keep coming in and out of my apartment whenever you like!” Startled, Dee gawked at him, which was when he added with a smile, “Unless you’re naked.”All-in-all, I had a fun time with the two wolves and hey, we get our first same-species shifter romance in the series! I couldn’t have predicted a more funny, kick-butt romance for the couple and loved getting to know them in Big Bad Beast. :)

Plot and romance developed at a leisurely pace but the best part of this paranormal shifters story was the humor with characters from previous books and all their quirks had me laughing out loud. Deadly wolf shifter Dee-Ann and her team are trying to stop a dog-fighting ring with the help of her rich-boy chef and wolf shifter boss Ric.

Loved it! I think Ric was just so damn adorable and so freaking sexy it made the whole story more pleasurable. Dee Ann was a blast too with all her grumpiness and then her love toward all the people that surrounds her. Incredible read!

They both have some serious knife skills, but smooth-talking wolf Ric Von Holtz learned his in the kitchen. For ex-Marine Dee-Ann Smith, getting up close & personal with a Bowie knife is a matter of survival. They're both determined to track down whoever's responsible for kidnapping hybrid shifters for to-the-death cage matches, but they might not survive one another, let alone the competition.Laurenston doesn't create typical characters - fun, often funny, and over too quickly.

I have read all the books in this series and have enjoyed them. Although I felt that Dee wasn't as 'tough' as they made her seem in the other books. Ric seemed to have a more 'alpha' personality than she did. Would recommend you start from the very first part of storyline starting from the Magnus pack and go from there as you will get to know some more of the history of the characters for these books.

I've read all the Pride stories leading up to this book and what can I say, the story just gets even better! From the beginning I couldn't put this book down nor could I stop laughing. Sexy, funny, this book is a definite must read for all fans everywhere!

Hilarious as usual, but I didn't get the chemistry between Ric and Dee-Ann.

I love these books more and more. Ms. Laurenston writes with a lot of humor and some really blood thristy action. I love that her characters seem like normal people that have an extraoridnary ability. I was glad to see that Dee Ann finally found the wolf that would make her happy. She is a wonderful character and she definitely needed someone to love her and take care of her. I also love Ric. You have to love a man that can cook and handle a gun with ease. I hope that Ms. Laurenston continues to write these wonderful stories so I know there will be more laughs to be had.

Finally in book 6 of the series, we have Dee Ann's story. Going into this story, Dee Ann was a character that I loved to hate, but seeing her through Ric's eyes gave me a whole new perspective. This is a complex story with layers of characters and multiple points of view that can make you a bit dizzy at first, but as you get comfortable with the format, it actually worked very well for the story.Humor and snarky dialogue add richness to the story and more than a few scenes to make you laugh out loud.Overall, I don't think they get much better than this. Great book!

Big Bad Beast by Shelly Laurenston is packed full. This book has hot steamy romance, the toughest females I've ever read about, paranormal shapeshifters, hot men, and really good food. I was a little lost at first since I hadn't read the first books in the series, but this book quickly won me over. Though packed with extreme brutal action the best part of this book was the interaction of the characters and how they all loved and supported each other. I would find myself lauging out loud at their antics. I would recommend to all lovers of good action packed romances to follow the journey of Dee-Ann a tough and scarred killing machine and her "supermodel/rich boy/ the one her daddy warned her of" boss Ric Van Holtz, who knows the way to a hard working shifter woman's heart is through her stomach.

I was excited to read this book but once I started to read it I was unable to get into it I felt totally lost as to what was going on and who was saying what to whom half the time.

Absolutely wonderful! I love the witty dialog (it made me laugh out loud in many places), the charactors were sexy and fun. The plot was suspenseful and engaging. Loved it!

This is such a fun and sexy read that is perfect for the beach. It is part of a series, but it can easily stand alone. I have read some of the previous books and had no problem catching up with this one. Dee Ann is part of shift protection group that protect their own and when their own are being captured for dog fights (well, with weres) the fur flies. And yes, there is snark, oh my is there snark! Dee Ann always has kept her heart safe, but now she is having problems with Ric, who she has known for years and avoided just as long. There is a lot of heat and action in this one.

Funny, sweet, sexy, funny. The tone is very light, almost whimsical, but the characters all have heart. Some of the transitions in DeeAnn and Ric's relationship were a little abrupt for me, but I loved seeing old characters brought back in ways that totally made sense (Sara, Dez, even Angelina!). The story will definitely be richer if you've read the others in the series, especially since DeeAnn and Ric's relationship was first introduced in The Mane Squeeze (2 books ago), but I think you could still follow the story if you haven't read them yet.
