About this audiobook

Treasure-hunting team Sam and Remi Fargo's search for a Romanov fortune brings them into perilous contact with an ambitious neo-Nazi clan in this thrilling adventure from the #1 New York Times-bestselling author.

In 1918, a ransom of enormous size was paid to free the Romanovs from the Bolsheviks, but, as history knows, the Romanovs died anyway. And the ransom? During World War II, the Nazis stole it from the Russians, and after that--it vanished. Until now.

When a modern-day kidnapping captures the attention of husband-and-wife team Sam and Remi Fargo, the couple soon learn that these long-lost riches may be back in play, held in trust by the descendants of a Nazi guerrilla faction called the Werewolves. It is their mission to establish the Fourth Reich, and their time is coming soon.

As the Fargos follow the trail across Europe, Northern Africa, and South America, they know only one thing. This quest is greater than anything they have ever done--it is their chance to make someone answer for unspeakable crimes, and to prevent them from happening again.

I finally got half-way through this book before deciding to give up on it. I really didn't care for the main characters as they were cookie-cutter and wholly unoriginal. I've tried several Cussler books and they've been OK at best. If you're looking for a fast-paced thriller with secret chambers, booby-traps, etc., then look to Matthew Reilly's Jack West, Jr. series.

Although I felt the tale was unnecessarily long, I enjoyed the story well enough. A convoluted search with a 'cast of thousands' for the priceless treasure planned to save the hapless Romanovs from the merciless bolshevics during the Russian revolution. I admire the Cusser books because they are G Rated. A rarity in today's world. Well done Clive and friends.

For a couple of self-styled archaeologists, the Fargos sure are racking up an impressive headcount. Not every goon that gets it shoots first; and you'd think that at some point a goon would have a family that would sue them for all their billions. But that never happens in this story - the goons are all red shirts just waiting to get what's coming to them. The story begins with the legend of the Russian dowager empress Maria Feodorovna putting up her considerable personal fortune in an attempt to secure the release of the deposed Romanov family following the Bolshevik Revolution. The ransom disappeared, and the family was brutally executed. This story posits that the fortune was squirreled away, only to be found by the Nazi's in WW2. The fortune was moved to Argentina, where it was supposed to finance German refugees intent on creating the Fourth Reich in what was known as Operation Werewolf. The story takes our heroes to Morocco, then to Russia, then Poland, then Germany, and finally to South America. All the while they are uncovering baffling clues while being hounded by the "Wolf's Guard," a band of thugs sporting a Wolf tattoo and are part of the not-quite-dead-yet Operation Werewolf.

Another search for lost treasure by the Fargos; this time from the Russian Romanoffs. Fighting off thieves and evil government agents while deciphering antique codes are the usual grist for Sam and Remi's mill. Faster on the trigger than usual, they eliminate bad guys, including numerous prospective nazis, at a rapid rate in this fun romp around the world.

Good, quick read. This time, the Fargoes can be found in many locations with many characters...it was hard to keep them all straight. In the end, was there really a Romanov Ransom?

action-adventure, nazis, tsars, spies, mystery, historical-places-events Another spectacular adventure mixing past, present, and speculation from the formidable imagination of Cussler! Jewels paid to the Bolsheviks for the safety of the royal family, nazis still searching for the Amber Room to raise money for a resurgence of their cause, and lots of secret police and spies. Keeps you reading long into the night. Scott Brick continues to be excellent as narrative interpretation.

The Romanov Ransom is another excellent Sam and Remi Fargo adventure. The locale is Eastern Europe encompassing WWII Nazis. The story is non stop adventure from the introduction of the Romanovs fleeing Russia to the conclusion. This book is highly recommended for anyone who likes a good adventure story and therefore deserves the five star rating.

The Fargo's get a request for help from some old friends who are looking for a missing Nazi plane. This leads to a race with a remnant NAZI organization in recovering the Romanov ransom.A good book.

The 9th Fargo Adventures book, Romanov Ransom, is not too shabby. It's a fast paced romp through Morocco, Argentina & Poland where the Fargos and seemingly 2 other nefarious groups are hunting a hoard stolen by the Nazis from Russia during world war 2. More action than historical accuracy but that's to be expected with this type of book. My main complaint that stopped me from rating this as excellent was after all the across-the-world action, cat-and-mouse maneuvering and investigation the ending seemed a little rushed. Almost as if the publisher had instructed Burcell/Cussler to keep it the same length as the last book.Overall though it's entertaining on par with the other Fargo offerings.

The Romanov Ransom is the ninth book in the Fargo Adventure series and it is co-written with Robin Burcell. I will say that I do enjoy the pairing of Cussler and Burcell! The story is very well developed and I enjoyed the many location that this story takes us to. From the title, you would presume that this story is set around the Romanov family and set in Russia but this story has a wider scope than that. The Fargos will traverse through Europe hitting several countries and then finally end up in South America as they search for the Romanov ransom. The Romanov ransom was truly that, a ransom. The Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna had put together a fortune, everything that she had managed to take with her when she went into hiding after the fall of Russia to the Bolsheviks, to pay the same Bolsheviks who were holding her family members for ransom. What she did not realize was that her family was already dead and that she was being swindled. At the last minute before the ransom was delivered to the Bolsheviks it was detoured and seemingly lost forever until portions of it turned up years later with a Nazi war criminal who was fleeing with the treasure to Santiago, Chile. That Nazi officer was bringing this fortune to Chile in order to meet up with other Nazi officers who had or were fleeing the country at the end of WWII. Their hopes were to use the fortune to start a war between America and Russia and make both countries weak. They also intended to use the treasure to finance the new Reich that they were going to establish. The treasure never reached Chile though due to the heroism of one little boy but it was also never recovered. No one ever really knew if the “Romanov ransom” was ever a real thing or if it was a myth that became legend.Fast forward to present day with Sam and Remi being contacted in order to help find two filmmakers who disappeared while conducting research in Morocco. Once on the trail of the filmmakers they stumble upon clues as to why these filmmakers were targeting and what Sam and Remi uncover was that even without the treasure the plans that the Nazi’s had put into place had continued and were nearing fruition. It became a race against time to find the treasure before it could be gathered by the Nazi’s and used for nefarious purposes. The Romanov Ransom was an exciting adventure that took me to remote locations with death at every turn but still had that Fargo charm that I look forward to when I pick up a book in this series. I love the easy banter that occurs between the Fargo’s and how they manage to add humor to every situation no matter how dire. There is never a dull moment in this story! This is both a book and series that I highly recommend!
