About this audiobook
Jack Jupiter knows zombies. He's written about them for years. So when Jack's mother passes away in a freak car accident involving a half-eaten deer and a pack of cigarettes, he also knows something's up. Now, Jack and his fiance, Darlene, are forced to go back to the dreadful town of Woodhaven, Ohio, for his mom's funeral.
But what he doesn't know is it might be their funeral, too.
A few months before Jack and Darlene's arrival, a mysterious flu-like virus swept through the town, infecting nearly every citizen. Now, like ticking time-bombs ready to explode, everyone is dropping dead. But they aren't staying dead. No, they're coming back as flesh-eating zombies.
Not only will Jack Jupiter have to bury his mother, confront high school bullies, and save Darlene, but he'll have to fight the dead in order to stay alive. And these aren't like the zombies from his books.
These walking corpses are real.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Oof. The main character is so unlikable. Like all he does is complain and put down others. The entire book is him talking shit about 'burn out small towners' and 'bullies past their prime'. I think the author has some issues to work out. I love zombie novels and have listened/read hundreds. Unless you like the sort of main character who thinks he's infinitely better than everyone else, skip this series.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5***VERY GRAPHIC*** If you don't like descriptions of gore, this is not for you.
I felt there was more time spent of describing the blood and gut attacks over details in the story.
Could have written a long expanse of they got out of the gym sooner.
Ok story, not my fave.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Enjoyable listen, but how can zombies deteriorate so fast? The timing is flawed. I will continue to listen to the whole series though.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Such a fast paced book that I kept wanting to keep going. Got to the end and immediately started the next in the series.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Ten years after graduating high school, Jack Jupiter and his fiance return to his hometown to bury his mother. As the protagonist in this book, he dislikes the town, especially after being the bullies' choice all during school. Since leaving, he has become an established author of books in the zombie genre; most town folks remember him, many are jealous of his fame. It's the Fourth of July weekend and visitors are coming to town from all over the state. Unknown to anyone is that a fire months ago in a well-known nearby research facility released a virus that spread for miles around, the incubation period was now over and today was the day most everyone will turn into zombies or become food for the hordes. After the funeral, Jack visits the local recreation center to chat with an old high-school friend who is a trainer at the facility. When the zombies start looking for food, Jack and others - who must be immune - lock themselves inside. The downfall of this story is the length of time everyone spends defending the facility - almost the entire story. The story bogs down here and I almost lost interest in continuing. The protagonist also voices his opinions quite often - sometimes he's funny and other times the comments don't make sense. Once the remaining survivors finally leave the recreation center, the story tempo picks up again. Jack's motivation all along is to get back to the motel to rescue his fiance. Some readers enjoyed this tale according to the many positive reviews. I struggled to finish it and can't believe the author made this story an 8-book series, especially, if each book is like this first one. I'll pass on continuing this series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Dead Haven (Jack Zombie #1) by Flint Maxwell is a story about a zombie novelist facing zombies. I enjoyed it and I am sick of zombie books so if I can read a zombie book and like it, and enjoy it, then it is good. Although the part where the release of the virus was predictable, it still didn't have any effect on the quality of the book. It still was good with lots of action, great dialogue, character development, good action scenes without getting a reader lost, and no need to know everything (the world, other places, etc.). Some books try to answer too much and this isn't necessary for a book and this book just lets it go, thank goodness. Leaves it open for the imagination. I received this book to read and under no obligation to leave a review, it is not an obligation but volunteered. Great book.
