About this audiobook
Phoebe Von Bergen is excited to accompany her father when he travels from Germany to purchase sapphires in Montana. Little does she know that her father's plans--for the gemstones and his daughter--are not what they seem. Ian Harper, a lapidary working in Helena, finds the young woman staying at the Broadwater Hotel more than a little intriguing. Yet the more he gets to know her, the more he realizes that her family story is based on a lie--a lie she has no knowledge of. And Ian believes he knows the only path that will lead her to freedom. Meeting Ian has changed everything. Phoebe is determined to stay in America, regardless of her father's plans. But she may not be prepared for the unexpected danger as the deception begins to unravel.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5i gave this book 2 stars because of it's authors but this is the lifeless , boring book ever by chapter 3 lost interest i only finish it to hear what happen to the father i can't believe a wedding take place between Ian and Phoebe where did that came from when Ian is only a guess so disappointed
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I’ve strayed from reading these Christian fiction books for the most part since they tend to follow a similar plot and I’m atheist but this one intrigued me because it takes place in Montana and it’s got a subplot about sapphires. I’m a sucker for sparkly things and my home state so I thought I’d wade back in. I can’t say I’ll be reading them on a regular basis but this one was diverting enough to keep me entertained for an afternoon.Phoebe van Bergen is visiting Montana with her father to explore Yogo sapphire mining for future investment – or so Phoebe things. He father is a man who expects a certain level of obedience from his daughter and since he is a nobleman feels himself better than those around him. While in Montana Phoebe meets Ian Harper a very righteous (nauseatingly so) young man who has been hurt in the past and has sworn off of falling in love but the heart wants what the heart wants and he finds himself growing closer to Pheobe as he discovers that her father is not all he seems to be. Is it up to him to direct her to the truth? The book flowed quickly with a traditional plot albeit with a couple of twists and turns that were unexpected. Phoebe and Ian are likable characters who keep the reader wanting to follow their relationship. The good guys are all good and the bad guys are very bad. What I like about a book like this is that it is easy to read with very little thought required. It provides a great escape for an afternoon. The over-proselytizing I just skim through. For those that are Christian I am sure those passages are comforting.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Title: A Beauty Refined (Sapphire Brides #2)Author: Tracie PetersonPages: 320Year: 2016Publisher: BethanyMy rating is 5 stars.Tracie Peterson’s novel is really capturing the era of the early 1900. The main character is Phoebe Van Bergen who is a daughter of a German count. The count is in Montana obtaining sapphires for a duchess. However, Phoebe’s father isn’t being honest with the duchess nor has he been with his daughter, which Phoebe comes to discover.Ian Harper works with gems and his past experience in a relationship has caused him to be more cautious in his relationship with Phoebe. Ian’s heart is drawn towards her, but he is afraid she is going to be just like his first wife. In a wilderness in Montana, Phoebe runs into a person she was told no longer existed. Now, a confused Phoebe sets out to find the truth.I love how Tracie crafted the story with her characters and revealing slowly the characters’ personalities and history. Phoebe is a wonderful woman who comes to understand that her life is empty without having the Lord even though she questions whether He is real and cares about her personally. Ian and then a woman who works at the hotel share who God is and what God has done by giving His Son for all people, showing Phoebe what her heart really is needing. The way her father, Graf Frederick Von Bergen acts and then decides how not to face the consequences of his choices in his dealing with a duchess really shocked me. I am sure some people make the same choice, but this was the first time I remember in one of Tracie’s novels a character who acts the way he did when confronted. I am not saying how it ends so as not to give away the ending or spoiling it for you readers who have yet to enjoy this story. I enjoyed the themes of faith, facing truth about one’s deceptions, romance, and redemption. I also thought the aspect of a mystery made me want to keep reading till the conclusion. I look forward to seeing how future novels from Tracie Peterson continue to share Jesus, redemption, faith and romance!Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Phoebe Von Bergen, is following her father, the German Count, on a world tour looking for sapphires. They are now in Helena, Montana, and while her father is on a buying trip, she stays at the hotel and while on a walk literally runs into her dead mother.Obviously all that she knew was a lie perpetrated by her father, and what she learns will change the course of her life. She has always done everything her father asked and he has spoiled her, but she is compliant for him, until…well you need to read this book.I had the feeling that the Frederick was the personification of pure Evil, and everyone around him had better take care. He really doesn’t have a conscience and only loves one person, himself.Don’t let this story get away, it reads like your in the room with them, and you want to do something about what is happening, even to unlocking the door.I received this book through Bethany House Blogger Program, and was not required to give a positive review.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A Beauty Refined by Tracie Peterson is the second book in the Sapphire Brides series. Graf Frederick Von Bergen (Graf is like an English Count) has come to Helena, Montana to purchase sapphires for his client, the Sapphire Duchess. Frederick has brought his daughter, Phoebe with him on the trip. Phoebe has always been an obedient and doting daughter. Ian Harper, a lapidary, is visiting the hotel to speak with his mother when he sees Phoebe from afar. Phoebe looks just like someone he knows (but he is also drawn to her). Phoebe is walking around the grounds of The Broadwater Hotel where they are staying and sees a woman who looks just like her mother. Phoebe was told that her mother, Elizabeth, passed away when she was twelve (and still feels the loss deeply). It turns out that Phoebe’s mother is alive. There are aspects of her father that Phoebe is unaware of (or ignored). While the Graf is away for two weeks looking at a sapphire mine, Phoebe gets to know her mother and Ian. What Phoebe learns changes her view of her father and what she wants in life. What will the Graf do when Phoebe no longer bows to his wishes? A Beauty Refined is a lovely story that focuses on truth/honesty, faith, and the power of prayer. It contains good characters (like Phoebe, Elizabeth, Ian, and Kenny), a lovely setting (of Helena, Montana), and interesting time period of 1907 (summer). The novel is well-written (as are all of Tracie Peterson’s books) and easy to read. You can enjoy A Beauty Refined without having read the first book in the Sapphire Bride series (each book can be read alone). There is some violence in the books (fair warning) that can be disconcerting. I give A Beauty Refined 4 out of 5 stars (I liked it). I will definitely be reading the next book in the Sapphire Bride series (as well as any others books by Tracie Peterson).I received a complimentary copy of A Beauty Refined from NetGalley (and Baker Publishing) in exchange for an honest evaluation of the book. The opinions and comments expressed above are strictly my own.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A Beauty Refined, a novel by Tracie Peterson, opens in Helena, Montana in 1907. Phoebe Von Bergen is a child of privilege. Her father is a German count and they have come to Montana to buy sapphires. She finds herself attracted to an American, Ian Harper, who works as a lapidary. Ian was hurt badly once and is afraid to take another chance on love. Despite his fears of being hurt again, he finds himself caring deeply for Phoebe. At first, Phoebe has no reason to believe anything is amiss, but this changes very quickly. An unexpected encounter changes her life. Secrets are revealed and Phoebe faces unimaginable danger and lives are threatened. Do Phoebe and Ian have a chance at a future together? The author has written an engrossing novel with a cast of multidimensional characters whose world becomes very real to the reader. The story deals with serious issues including honesty, betrayal, deceit, love and faith. This is a fast moving story with enough twists, turns and surprises to hold the reader's attention to the end. Highly recommended.I received this book for free from Bethany House Publishing and I give this review of my own free will.
