About this audiobook
An inspirational book about life and its lessons from the Golden Globe and Emmy nominated star of NBC's This Is Us.
When This Is Us debuted in fall 2016, a divided America embraced a show that celebrates human connection. The critically acclaimed series became America's most watched—and most talked about—network show, even building on its fan base in the drama's second season. As Kate Pearson, Chrissy Metz presents a character that has never been seen on television, yet viewers see themselves in her, no matter what they look like or where they come from. Considered a role model just for being her authentic self, Chrissy found herself on magazine covers and talk shows, walking red carpets, and as the subject of endless conversations on social media "I don't know what you've been through to play her," she is often told by fans, "but it was something."
In This is Me, Chrissy Metz shares her story with a raw honesty that will leave readers both surprised but also inspired. Infused with the same authenticity she brings to her starring role, Chrissy's This is Me is so much more than your standard Hollywood memoir or collection of personal essays. She embraces the spirit of Shonda Rhimes' Year of Yes, and shares how she has applied the lessons she learned from both setbacks and successes. A born entertainer, Chrissy finds light in even her darkest moments, and leaves the reader feeling they are spending time with a friend who gets it.
Chrissy Metz grew up in a large family, one that always seemed to be moving, and growing. Her father disappeared one day, leaving her mother to work a series of menial jobs and his children to learn to live with the threat of hunger and the electricity being cut off. When her mother remarried, Chrissy hoped for "normal" but instead experienced a form of mental pain that seemed crafted just for her. The boys who showed her attention did so with strings attached as well, and Chrissy accepted it, because for her, love always came with conditions.
When she set out for Los Angeles, it was the first time she had been away from her family and from Florida. And for years, she got barely an audition. So how does a woman with the deck stacked against her radiate such love, beauty and joy? This too is at the heart of This is Me.
With chapters that alternate from autobiographical to instructional, Chrissy offers practical applications of her hard-won insights in a series of "Bee Mindful" interstitials. There she invites you to embrace gratitude in "Say Thank You" or to be honest with your partner and yourself in "The Shrouded Supreme." Blending love and experience, Chrissy encourages us all to claim our rightful place in a world that may be trying to knock us down, find our own unique gifts, and pursue our dreams.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In this biography author Chrissy Metz shares a bit of her life history and stories. Chrissy is best known for her role as Kate Pearson in the television series This is Us. Audiences relate to her character’s honesty and difficulties. Her performance in the show has earned her two Golden Globe award nominations and Emmy nominations for best supporting actress. Throughout the book I loved how sincere she was in her writing. She made her message emotional and inspirational in every chapter and subject that she addressed on her journey to the person she is today. I liked how she wrote about some of her experiences with some of the biggest names in history, such as Oprah, Sterling K Brown, Chris Sulivan, and many more. I was inspired by Chrissy's natural way of encouragement and motivation. After each chapter there is a “Be mindful” section where she talks about the little things, how we should appreciate who we are, find our gifts, and pursue our dreams. Only a strong, courageous and loving woman can be so positive given her past experiences. I would reccomend this book to anyone whether your
“There is something that happens when you are grateful. You continue to receive blessings.” - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It is definitely worth your time. I just finished it for the second time.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved everything about this book! And especially that the author read at herself. it was like sitting over coffee and listening to her story
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So good! I laughed, I cried, I got overly happy to hear that Milo Ventimiglia is as amazing as we all imagine him to be. She shows so much openness about her life, and is amazingly understanding to those who honestly don't deserve her understanding. Happy to know she's as lovely as I thought she would be, and grateful for her words of encouragement throughout.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So real, so raw, I felt on the core... So much of Crissy's story, and I felt her HOPE. Wow. The life lessons she learned, she shares here. Ya'll, I just got some good Oprah advice, for real... from Crissy! Haha. I am so proud of her and her success. This book has so much wisdom in it that the audio book can't do it justice (I'm going to have to go back through and take notes). But, guys, I got to listen to her talk about her life, in my ears, for hours.. Nope... No paper is going to beat that: fresh bookstore scent or not. This is the real deal. From her past, her life, her roles, her friendships and the occasional TMI, because you know... We're like that now.. (as readers). Keep on going girl! Thankful for the view into your life, Always... Being... Mindful.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So inspirational. This just made me feel even more of a connection to her and made me like her even more.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is Me: Loving the Person You Are Today is read by Chrissy Metz. She is the author of this wonderful book that shares how self-love is sometimes birthed from abandonment and rejection. Chrissy has overcome the most important obstacle in life; self-doubt. There were more reasons for her to doubt herself or her abilities than there were for her to embrace who she is within.
Chrissy was determined not to allow the struggles that all people art one time or another face to become her reality. Instead she has continued to put one foot in front of the other. Even when she falls she dusts herself off and recognizes what derailed her.
This isn't a self help book or a book that was thrown together to bring more attention to a television show. It is an honest memoir of one woman who loves herself regardless of what others think or think she should think about herself. A five star must read (or listen lol) - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A lot of truth about how we need to be more like Chrissy ! What an amazingly precious woman to step forward for us all to see her light! AMAZING is an understatement for me to say about her
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was absolutely a joy to listen to! Chrissy you are amazing inside and out! Xoxo
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Chrissy is original and just listening to her makes you want to be around her. Loved it!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5She spoke with with and “about me” I’m so many ways. I’m so happy to know she has learned to love herself, I’m learning as well.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The fact that she recorded the narrative herself speaks volumes. Listening to this book felt like having a sit down with with old friend. She tells about her life and struggles in a way that inspires one to really take control of the situations holding them back. Using references from her own experience to empower embracing our own self and loving that person in spite of everything.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Absolutely loved this. So glad that Chrissy read it, it definitely gives it a more personal touch.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I would listen to this once a week if I could. My heart swells when I think of how adorable Chrissy Metz is. Full of self help and warm fuzzies.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So good. So real, at times raw, honest, insightful and overall hopeful. A real positive outlook while inserting practical techniques to love yourself more and accept who we all are. I read a lot of celebrity bios and this one was refreshing!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great great book!! I loved listening to Chrissy’s story! So honest and so descriptive, you really never know what someone has lived through until you know...thank you Chrissy for sharing your story! I highly recommend it!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's was a Amazing massage hope everyone that read this book bless
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I am so torn on this book. For the record, I love Chrissy Metz. I adore her on This is Us, but I also love following her on Instagram. She is so upbeat, fun, and hilarious. She seems like the kind of person you could just hang out with all the time!
She has a very unique voice (writing and speaking), which is one of the reasons she's so fun to follow. And that came through in the book. Even though I wasn't listening to the audiobook, I could totally hear her saying the things she wrote. And that worked for her, and against her for the book in my opinion. There were so, so many words that aren't real words left in the book as her exclamations. Gawd, Lawd, okuuur, and the one that got me the most was "doneskees." I mean, I know what she's going for, but it was just a little too much for me in a written book.
Also, I wanted to send the book to an editor. I mean, she thanks her editor, but I wanted to go, "Really?" There were SO many errors in the book. It felt like they were throwing the book together way too fast, on the heels of her Emmy and Golden Globe noms and the height of her success. But it didn't feel polished at all.
And I think most of the errors were because they were trying to keep her talking voice real in the pages. None of the errors were like typographical or even grammatical. They were all tenses and weird sentences and point of view. Basics of writing. Things that an editor should have at least smoothed over. A good editor, in my opinion, would be able to keep the voice while making it still conversational and organic to the author. Instead, tenses would change between present and past, not only in the same paragraph, but THE SAME SENTENCE!!! Really? I know we talk like that, but we can't write that way in a publication. Its just different. Same thing with point of view. I know these are all housekeeping issues, so they wouldn't bother everyone. But for me, it brought me out of the story over and over.
Overall, she's an amazing person, and the book gives a great sense of what all she has been through without narrowing in on only her eating and weight issues. Of course, she discusses it. But its not the focus. It actually was more of a self-help book than I expected. Which I didn't love, but it was fine. It showed how much she has grown. Although, like any of us I supposed, she has a lot more growing to do. That showed a lot too in her conversational style of writing.
As a mega This is Us fan, I was hoping for more in depth coverage of her time on the show. Of course I knew it wouldn't come until the end of the book, but I wanted a bit more. I love the little glimpses that she does give. I love what she says about each of her costars. But it left me wanted more. Could we have taken out a bit of the repetition of self-help to get what the reader really wants. I want to know what it was like to meet them for the first time. Not only that they sat at the round table to do the reading together. I want more than a paragraph on each of the costars. (Even though what she does say is perfection. I love Sterling K. Brown and Milo Ventimiglia passionately, so her describing Sterling contagious, full body laughter made me smile, and her describing how Milo IS Jack Pearson made me melt.) But I just wanted a bit more!
All in all, it was a good read. However, if I could go back, I would listen to the audiobook. I just love listening to celebrity memoirs through audio when they are reading it. You really get to hear their voice and their humor and sarcasm. Their heart. Some of my favorites are Wildflower by Drew Barrymore, Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls by Lauren Graham, and Bossypants by Tina Fey. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I absolutely adore Chrissy Metz. Great listen. Very inspiring and relatable. Xoxo
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I thoroughly enjoyed this book, from beginning to the end. It was funny, witty and very touching. She gave us her all!
