- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I know this author is very popular but I do not understand why. The writing is full of cliches [e.g., shaking like a leaf] and grammatical errors [e.g., using using intransitive verbs where the sentence calls for a transitive verb], excess verbiage, particularly with verbs [e.g., "gave a smile" instead of smiled]. And frequently information that already given is given again in different words. I could probably cut the length of the book by 1/4 to 1/3 by eliminated the excesses. It makes me wonder if this author has ever had an editor. If so, the editor is a very bad one.
Worst of all, of course, is that the plot is utterly unbelievable.
I'd just finished two fairly heavy duty books and I thought I'd pick up a light mystery to relax by, but I spent most of the time counting cliches and shaking my head at the plot. I don't know why I didn't walk away from it, but I did want to know the ending. The excessive number of red herrings [which the protagonist's "intuition" somehow never picked up on] made a confusing mess of the plot. I did shut down the denouement after the full story was explained at the end. So much more could have been done with the story with some serious character development. The ending was unsatisfying because most of it hadn't been adequately foreshadowed, and the rest was simply not credible.
I'm sure the author will go on pounding out the same kind of silliness and making loads of money off her [his] lighter than fluff "novels" and my opinion doesn't matter in the least.
I gather I am not among the target audience for this author's work.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Enjoyable, not vicious, good to have a psychic involved, especially one who is believable. Gentle reasoning and such..I am happy to have found this author..
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5new author for me. I will be reading more of his books. this is just a down home mystery. I usually can predict a book but this one had several twists. must read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I love murder mysteries and this was a lovely listen on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This series is so much fun. I'm sorry to have come to the end of the audio books in this series. I really love the characters that live in this book, I'd love to have them as neighbors. Claire is able to find the murderer with the help of her special gift, the corgis, and her friends. Always a wonderful story and a satisfying ending.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Simple language. probably meant for twelve to fifteen year olds. A lightweight. It's main virtue is the length of the book, though unfortunately it does not have the virtue of brevity.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was ok just slow, not a whole lot of action! It’s really easy to figure out what’s going to happening.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The story has merit, but too many questions. More action.
