About this audiobook

With rich detail, compelling honesty, and a storyteller’s gift, RFK Jr. describes growing up Kennedy in a tumultuous time in history that eerily echoes the issues of nuclear confrontation, religion, race, and inequality that we confront today.

This powerful book combines the best aspects of memoir and political history. The third child of Attorney General Robert Kennedy and nephew of JFK takes us on a journey through his life, including watershed moments in the history of our nation.

These pages come vividly to life with intimate stories of RFK Jr.’s own experiences, not just with historical events and the movers who shaped them, but also with his mother and father, his own struggles with addiction, and the ways he eventually made peace with both his Kennedy legacy and his own demons. The result is a book that is remarkably stirring and relevant, providing both insight and hope for all Americans at a time when they are needed like never before.

Robert F. Kennedy

Robert F. Kennedy was one of the best-known political figures during the 1960’s, globally admired for his personal toughness, and passionate advocacy on behalf of civil rights, economic opportunity, and peace.  He ran his brother John’s successful campaign for the US Presidency in 1960, and then became the nation’s second-youngest Attorney General.  After a successful New York run for the US Senate, he pursued the Democratic presidential nomination in 1968. He was assassinated in June of that year, at age 42.

Truly inspiring. I especially loved the stories about the early days.

While I disagree with his presentation of traditional Catholicism as a religion that doesn't focus on serving the poor(see doctrine on spiritual and corporal works of mercy) and too much on rigid orthodoxy(you can be both orthodox, go to daily mass, and serve the poor...see St Teresa of Calcutta), it is a book showing the love and appreciation in a family and their dedication to justice and mercy. While I do not agree with some of their politics, I think that the Kennedy family shaped our country. Unfortunately, the strongest, most admirable member, John F Kennedy, perished at the hands of our own government. Had this not happened the world would be drastically different and much of what we lament now could have been prevented. For that, we should all pause and recognize a shameful part of our history. I truly admire RFK Jr for what he has been through and how he is still working on improving our country. Even so much as revisiting the death of his father and how that too has resulted in the sentence of the wrong man. May he fight for the truth on his father's death.
