About this audiobook

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Do you dare step through the red door? Spencer Grant had no idea what drew him to the bar with the red door. He thought he would just sit down, have a slow beer or two, and talk to a stranger. He couldn’t know that it would lead to a narrow escape from a bungalow targeted by a SWAT team. Or that it would leave him a wanted man.

But now Spencer is on the run from mysterious and ruthless men. He is in love with a woman he knows next to nothing about. And he is hiding from a past he can’t fully remember. On his trail is a shadowy security agency that answers to no one—including the U.S. government—and a man who considers himself a compassionate Angel of Death. But worst of all, Spencer Grant is on a collision course with inner demons he thought he’d buried years ago—inner demons that could destroy him if his enemies don’t first.

This has long been my very favorite Koontz book. I first found this back in the late 90s as an audiobook on the old Books on Tape Club (rent an audiobook at one location, return them at another - great for us long-haul truckers!), and instantly fell in love with the story!

A man meets a woman, falls in love with her, and gets pursued by the Bad Guys. The Chief Bad Guy sees himself as an Angel of Mercy, "delivering sad people from their miserable existence" - who later falls in love with a like-mind himself.

The Good Guy, accompanied by his ever-faithful dog, find the woman, get chased, are rescued by others who run afoul with property forfeiture laws, and in the end remembers remembers what happened years ago at the age of 11 that gives him his distinctive scar, and comes to terms with that past.

Dean Koontz has referred to this as a love story filled with action. I can agree with this.

Always been a fan of Dean Koontz. Had read this book a very long time ago. Full of suspense & action & some quite disturbing characters too, but also balanced with others having a true heart! sometimes maybe tends to go into too much detail on d disturbing characters. Enjoyed listening to the Audiobook version since the narrator is incredibly good. He totally brings each character to life. I am sure that he has very good acting knowledge, as he definitely has good acting skills!

As accurately visionary as 1984. Excellent narration. Makes me wonder how the work of Phillip K. Dick has escaped my attention. So it is now time to binge his works. Thank you Mr. Koontz!
