About this audiobook
From bestselling authors William W. and J. A. Johnstone-the explosive adventures of Perley Gates, who's carving out his own legacy in the violent American frontier . . .
Restless cowpoke Perley Gates wanted nothing more than to track down the grandfather who abandoned his family years ago. What he found was the crazy old sidewinder barely hanging on after a Sioux massacre. The old man's dying wish was to make things right for deserting his kin-by giving his strong-willed grandson Perley clues to the whereabouts of a buried fortune in gold.
Finding his grandfather's legacy will set up his family for life. But it won't be easy. The discovery of raw gold in the Black Hills has lured hordes of ruthless lowlifes into Deadwood and Custer City-kill-crazy prairie rats, gunfighters, outlaws, and Indians-armed with a thousand glittering reasons to put Perley six feet under. All Perley wants is what was left to him, what he's owed. But with so many brigands on his backside, finding his grandfather's treasure is going to land Perley Gates between the promise of heaven and the blood-soaked battlefields of hell . . .

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Title: A Reason to Die (A Perley Gates Western #2)Author: William W Johnstone with J. A. JohnstonePages: 352Year: 2020Publisher: PinnacleMy rating: 5 out of 5 stars.Oh, goodness! I knew this was going to be a good tale with this character the moment I read book one titled, The Legend of Perley Gates. Perley Gates is a young cattleman who runs a ranch with his brothers in Texas but seems to be in the middle of trouble without ever going to look for it! While Perley enjoys being around kids, he hasn’t gotten around to settling down to raise some of his own. While he was out locating his grandfather and then returning to the ranch, he locates one who survived a gang that destroyed his folks. With Perley, it seems he never just finds one “cow pie” in his travels but several, and in this sequel that still holds true! Perley is a natural with a gun but his looks of being young along with his attempts of trying talk his way out of trouble give outlaws a moment of hesitation. Of course, that moment is usually what causes their demise! I love that while Perley has to defend himself he remains a humble man who hates to have to draw a gun. He is the youngest of the brothers and takes a lot of ribbing from them, but he is a good-natured fellow.Perley respects people, abides by the law; yet, trouble is always dogging his steps! I think western fans of all ages will enjoy following this man through his many suspense-filled moments. The nature scenes described sound beautiful! So, grab a cup of coffee and hunker down for an enjoyable tale with Perley Gates and then be ready to continue with book three, Bullets Don’t Argue and recently released Shot to Hell!Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.
