About this audiobook

A stand-alone fantasy tale from Seanan McGuire's Alex Award-winning Wayward Children series, which began in the Alex, Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Award-winning, World Fantasy Award finalist, Tiptree Honor List Every Heart a Doorway

This fourth entry and prequel tells the story of Lundy, a very serious young girl who would rather study and dream than become a respectable housewife and live up to the expectations of the world around her. As well she should.

When she finds a doorway to a world founded on logic and reason, riddles and lies, she thinks she's found her paradise. Alas, everything costs at the goblin market, and when her time there is drawing to a close, she makes the kind of bargain that never plays out well.

Author

Seanan McGuire

Seanan McGuire was born and raised in Northern California, where she has lived for the majority of her life. She spends most of her time writing or watching television but also draws a semiautobiographical comic strip and has released several albums of filk music (science fiction and fantasy-themed folk music). To relax, Seanan enjoys travel and frequents haunted corn mazes, aquariums with good octopus habitats, and Disney parks. Seanan is remarkably good at finding reptiles and amphibians wherever she goes, sometimes to the dismay of the people she happens to be traveling with.

Perfectly captures the brilliance of this series. McGuire stellar work shines in the fourth instalment of this series, sharing the fantastical story of Lundy, who was introduced in the first book of this series. Beautiful.

This is the fourth book in the Wayward Children series but as it's a prequel, I think it would be a good place to start also. I have listened to this series on audiobook so far and I think they are really well done. The voice actor perfectly suits the stories and they are really absorbing novellas.

In an Absent Dream is my favourite of the series so far; I love the character of Lundy and the magical world that she visits. I obviously don't want to spoil anything but I think that this was one of the most well established and developed worlds of the series. I would actually love for there to be another story set in this world, maybe following some of the side characters.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I would highly recommend it.

    5 out of 5 stars!

I really did enjoy this book but I felt the ending was disappointing. I hoped for something more wholesome and well rounded.
That said, I love Seanan McGuire's writing and his way of creating worlds that cater to different personalities. I hope he will write more. ?

I love this book more than book 1 and book 3 but less than book 2. Too much had happened in a short amount of time. It kinda confused the heck out of me.

Perto dos anteriores achei o mais fraco, porém, deixa aquele gostinho de quero mais! É interessante saber o que aconteceu com Lundy e quem ela era, mas senti falta da presença de personagens mais familiares.

This one just breaks my heart! I love Lundy so much and I can totally relate to her dilemma in this book. I love Lundy and I understand so much about her from reading her book. Of all of the worlds we've glimpsed so far in the series, I think this is the most interesting. This is a book that I have to sit with for a minute before moving on because it's so good.
