About this audiobook

“Perfect for readers who love the dishy women's fiction of Candace Bushnell.” —Booklist
From the author of the New York Times bestselling Stiletto and Oxford series, the first in a sizzling new series following the unlikely friendship of three Upper East Side women as they struggle to achieve their dreams and find true love and happiness in the city that never sleeps.
For as long as she can remember, Bronx-born Naomi Powell has had one goal: to prove her worth among the Upper East Side elite—the same people for which her mom worked as a housekeeper. Now, as the strongminded, sassy CEO of one of the biggest jewelry empires in the country, Naomi finally has exactly what she wants—but it’s going to take more than just the right address to make Manhattan’s upper class stop treating her like an outsider.
The worst offender is her new neighbor, Oliver Cunningham—the grown son of the very family Naomi’s mother used to work for. Oliver used to torment Naomi when they were children, and as a ridiculously attractive adult, he’s tormenting her in entirely different ways. Now they find themselves engaged in a battle-of-wills that will either consume or destroy them.
“Strong characters and relatable situations elevate Layne’s bighearted contemporary...[which] digs into class differences, emotional baggage, and the reality of dealing with aging parents” (Publishers Weekly, starred review). With the sexy combination of charm, heart, and snark, Lauren Layne’s new series is perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Sally Thorne.

Book was too wordy. As much as i liked the story I became bored waiting for the author to get to the point.I stopped listening. Series ended in chapter 8 of this book for me - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Hmmmmm.
Ok....well, for whatever reason I listened to the second book in this series first.
This is obviously the book that sets up "the pact", and yeah, it's pretty unrealistic and blah blah blah whatever....SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF, PEOPLE. Just skim past the first chapter or so until you get into the Oliver stuff....
Because that's where it really gets going, obviously. And for awhile I was TOTALLY into this growing relationship! Right up until the very end, actually! And then I realized that, strangely, I had basically the same issues with book one that I'd had with book two:
*There were a lot of minor character and conflict buildups that just....never really seemed to pan out. The reader is left feeling like the author just "forgot" about that story line, or that it was chopped out by an over-zealous editor.
*Lack of "spice" doesn't bother me, but this door was shut TIGHT, man!! If you want to allude to sex being had (ie, not a completely "clean" book), you have to at least throw the readers enough crumbs to have them feel the chemistry and tension.
*You're reading along, feeling constantly like you're riding the cusp of this couple realizing how they really feel about each other....and let's face it, that's the sweet spot! That really is the most delicious part of romance, whether in fiction or real life. But then....with what feels like very little to-do the couple gets together....THEN BIG (sort of lame and frustrating) CONFLICT PUSHES THEM APART....then they're back together, and THE END. It just feels....anti-climactic. There's just not much pay-off to all the buildup.
I'm still giving this book 4 stars, because it was an original story, and kept me really invested as it went along. In fact, I liked both of these books so much that I'll STILL keep reading this author, even if all her books prove to have these same issues. But MAN it's disappointing when a book comes so close to going on your LOVE!! list, and at the very last minute you just feel let down and have to downgrade it to a "like". - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good book, I like the story but I didn’t love the narrators.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5it was just not my cup of tea.predictable and a little slow. it was kinda irritating to listen to the main character ramble in her head and be stubborn.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I liked it very much! Lite, girly, fresh! Nice read!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Cute story and I can't wait to read the next two books in the series!
