I didn't finish. The writing was okay, but the main character's jealous, controlling boyfriend was just too much for me.

The storyline is fine but the characters are unlikeable, with dialogue demonstrating why it is easy to dislike.

Molly Pink is a widow who works at a bookstore as the events coordinator. Her boss, Mrs. Shedd, is taking a vacation and puts Molly in charge of the creative retreat on the Monterey Peninsula. But it seems that there have been some changes from the original slate of people who were to be teachers, and Molly has some surprises in store. She's also surprised when one of the teachers, Izabelle Landers, shows up ahead of time at the store to pick up her welcome packet. When Molly's coworker Adele (who thinks she should have gotten Molly's job) fawns over Izabelle, everyone is embarrassed. But after Izabelle leaves, Adele notices a piece of crochet she had made - showing a new stitch - has disappeared; and Molly tells her that one of the crocheters had probably picked it up by mistake. When Molly arrives at the retreat, she's dismayed to find it more rustic than she thought: no TV, no phone, not even a restaurant; just a communal dining room. Then a fog rolls in keeping guests from arriving (except for a brave few who made it through before the fog hit) and Molly finds herself trying to keep everyone occupied. But the real trouble begins when a teacher is found dead and her death is ruled accidental.Molly is suspicious that this might not have been an accident, and when the police refuse to look further, she decides to embark on an investigation of her own, with the help of her best friend Dinah. When Molly starts getting closer to the truth, she'll be lucky if she can get out alive...This is the fourth book in the series and I liked it better than the first three. Molly has taken charge of the group of people at the resort without coming apart, and has decided to find out who killed the woman even if the police don't believe it was murder. She's looking into the death and trying to find clues, and with Dinah's help, seems to somewhat be staying under the wire. She's also discovering quite a bit unsavory about the woman's past, which makes her wonder more which one of the people at the retreat had the most motive to want her dead. The only unfortunate part was the fact that the reader isn't given any clues, so we don't really have the chance to figure out ourselves who the murderer might be. I always like a clue here and there now and again, and this book didn't give any to us at all until the near end of the book. When the ending comes and the murder is solved, it seemed rather a weak ending, but there is the promise of something new for Dinah and leaves us wondering what will happen with Molly in the next.

It’s time for the annual retreat hosted by the bookstore. Molly was looking forward to a weekend having fun, but instead, she is put in charge at the last minute. There are many problems that could not have been predicted, including murder, and Molly must deal with them all. She eventually comes out on top, but it is hit or miss much of the time as she tries to unravel the deceptions to get to the truth of the matter. The mystery itself almost takes a backseat to all the shenanigans that these delightful characters go through. It’s a cute story and a nice addition to the series.

Bookstore owner, Pamela Shedd has handed over the "Rhinestone Clipboard" and all the responsibilities for their sponsored craft retreat. Things don't start out well having to replace the Tai Chai instructor as well as the acting coach, but managing that Molly is optimistic about the retreat until a massive fog sets in - stopping the arrival of the retreaters. Then the crochet instructor is found dying on the beach apparently suffering from an allergic reaction to a s'more. Molly has to rely on her own instincts as well as her friends to figure that it wasn't an accident but murder!

This, the fourth book in the Crochet Mystery Series finds amateur sleuth and `Tarzana Hooker' Molly Pink being left in charge of a craft retreat weekend. Molly is reluctant to take up the `rhinestone clipboard of power' and fellow crocheter Adele is furious that she hasn't been given the role for herself, but all that changes when one of the instructors is found dead on the beach. It's up to `crime scene groupie' Molly and her fellow hookers to find out if the instructor's death was accidental- or murder. This was a much stronger plot than that of book three, I'm happy to report. Sometimes taking the characters away from a familiar setting doesn't work, but this one did and it was fun to read about their weekend and the unfamiliar scenery- I think it has refreshed the storyline actually. My only disappointment was that there was a serious lack of Cee-Cee (my favourite character). It was good however to get Molly away from her on-off boyfriend Barry and though it was a bit contrived to have Mason (her possible other squeeze) turn up at the retreat, it was fun nonetheless seeing Molly try and fight her attraction to him. These are light-hearted mysteries with a lack of sex and violence and you can get through them fairly quickly, so they're a fast paced read. The characters are well developed and the plot moves on at a nice speed so you never feel bogged down by characters or over complicated, unnecessary details. The book also features a crochet pattern and recipe at the back if you are that way inclined, which is a nice touch.I personally really enjoy cosy mysteries between more complex reads and this one was no exception. You don't have to be a crocheter to like these books (I'm not!) but I would recommend reading them in their intended order just so you know who is who and learn about Molly's previous sleuthing adventures. *This review also appears on Amazon.co.uk*
