SIMMONS (1921-1969) was a Bombardier 2nd Lieutenant who served with the 567th Bomb Squadron of the 389th Bomb Group. Following the crash of the B-24 Liberator #4250842 at Mainz on 19 October 1944, 2 km north of Bad Kreuznach, Germany, he became a POW in the American section of Stalag Luft III.
He was awarded an Air Medal and the Purple Heart for his services.
In 1960, he published a vivid portrayal of his experiences as a Prisoner of War.view less
