About this ebook

NO GOOD CHOICES

When you're hanging off the edge of a volcano, how do you make the most important decision of your life? For Violet Eden the decisions between right and wrong are getting harder and harder. Because apparently being a half-angel Grigori doesn't always make you right.

Where is the good in having to choose between the life of her best friend and saving humanity? How does she balance a soul-crushing need for her Grigori partner, Lincoln, and the desire to keep him safe at all costs? And what if the darkest exiled angel of all, Phoenix, isn't as bad as she thought?

Both sides—Angels vs. Exiles—are racing to decipher an ancient scripture that would allow anyone banished to the Underworld to return. And at the very center: Violet. She only has one chance to make the right choice...

Let me just start off by saying that this is my personal opinion & in no way saying others should or shouldn't feel this way nor am I saying anyone shouldn't start, continue on, or finish this series.

This book for me was not great at all. It took me two weeks to read this book where the other books only took a few days, although Entice did take me a little longer to get into, but once I did, it only took me a few days to finish but in total, it took about a week..

Now, normally, I am not one to struggle through a book, but the only reason I did so was because I do love the series otherwise...And plan on continuing..But I was so frustrated with over done situations, long drawn out "scenes", overly explained situations and sometimes, things being repeated when it shouldn't have been.

Yes, there were many parts that I enjoyed and liked a lot but the situation between Violet & Lincoln was so over done in the book that it just drove me nuts...I had started this book back in May, put it down then started it again close to the end of June. Just for it to take another two weeks to get through...I had to skip a chapter and about 10 pages in the next one..

The Violet/Lincoln situation, okay, I understand, they have to fight some "feelings, especially after what happened in Entice but sheesh, come on! Almost the entire book talking about it? That could have been cut in half! To say I am a little frustrated is an understatement! lol...

Now, was it the worst I've read? NO! It wasn't the best but definitely better than many books I have read.

Again, I repeat, I do love this series, but it just so happened that this particular one in the series wasn't her best for me personally...

But I will continue on to Endless and just hope its much better...

I hate that I was so frustrated with it...Because this is one of my favorite series yet!

I love Lincoln, oh boy, do I love Lincoln! And of course Spence! Spence is just amazing & funny! Great heart! I do love the whole team, even Onyx & Dapper! lol...

Still can't wait for Endless in the States! :-)

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.Quick & Dirty: This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Emblaze was so action packed, filled with steamy romance, forbidden love, and an amazing cast of characters. Once I started I couldn’t put the book down.Opening Sentence: She didn’t have to see him to know he was there. The Review: Violet’s life has been a roller coaster ever since she found out she was a Grigori, which means that she is part angel and part human. She seems to attract exiles like a magnet and they just keep coming for her. Violet is very powerful, but she has just started learning how to use and control it. There is a big fight coming and she needs to be prepared if she expects to come out of it alive. Things are really rough right now between her and her Grigori partner Lincoln. They happen to be soul mates and are madly in love, but if they act on their feelings it could eventually destroy both of them. But staying apart is proving harder than either of them dreamed. Their souls yearn for each other so much that it is physically painful at times to resist. Can they stay apart and survive the pending doom coming their way?Phoenix is an exile that Violet once cared about, but he betrayed her and now he is trying to do the unthinkable. He wants to open up the gates of Hell and release his mother Lilith. In order to do this he needs to get his hands on the scriptures that the Grigori currently possess. He is ruthless and will go to any lengths to get them, even hurt people that Violet cares about. It doesn’t take Phoenix long to realize that he will also need Violet if he wants his plan to succeed. As prophecies are deciphered they are lead to the islands of Greece and Violet can’t help but think that she may never make it back home.Violet is such an awesome heroine. She knows how to take care of herself and she’s not afraid to totally kick butt when she needs to. She has a fun spunky attitude and she is very independent. She tries to put on a tough guy act but she has a vulnerable side as well. She cares deeply about her family and friends and she will do anything to protect them even if it means sacrificing herself. She does have some girl moments that show some of her weakness, but it just made her more relatable. Honestly, I loved being inside Violets head. She is an amazing character with a great voice. I can’t wait to see where her story goes.Lincoln is Violet’s partner and he happens to be a total hottie, but having a relationship with him is forbidden. Violet has had a crush on Lincoln for years now and they recently found out that they were soul mates. As in their souls actually yearn for each other and they have this unbreakable connection. The more time they are around each other the harder it is for them to stay apart. It’s actually really heartbreaking to see them together, but at the same time it is so sweet. They have this amazing chemistry and they care about each other so much. Lincoln would do anything for Violet and he is an amazing guy. I love him and I hope that they eventually get their happy-ever-after.So I have to confess that lately I have had a thing for the bad guy in books. Phoenix is the villain in the books, but he also happens to be totally in love with Violet as well. I’m not going to lie, he is my favorite character in the books. In the first book he got his heart totally broken by Violet, but he has never stopped caring about her. He has steamy chemistry with Violet, and I felt my heart break for him when she continually rejects him. Even though he is ruthless at times, he still has a very caring side that shows through at rare moments. He wants to find his place in this world and he feels that by bringing Lilith back he will find it. Probably my favorite chapter in the whole book is the one that is told from Phoenix’s point of view. I know that he’s the bad guy, but I just can’t help but love him. This was an amazing book. From the very first chapter it is action packed and I was totally hooked. The story is so intriguing and the plot was full of twists and surprises. The romance is steamy and heartbreaking at the same time. I loved all of the characters, they are developed wonderfully and I connected with all of them. Jessica’s writing is captivating and beautiful. I will admit that the ending almost killed me because there is a terrible cliffhanger and I am dying to know what happens next. I would highly recommend this series to anyone that enjoys YA Paranormal, it is honestly amazing and it will not disappoint!!!Notable Scene:I stopped outside a department store window and stared at a mannequin wearing a beautiful, strapless, black dress with an intricately laced bodice from which fabric flowed to the floor in a sublime drop, a long slit in one side. The model was emotionless even though it showcased one of the most stunning dresses I’d ever seen. I locked my own reactions down and tried to replicate her numbness while I waited.I didn’t need to turn to know when he was right behind me. He was so close, I could feel his breath on my back, feel the flickering emotion he was sending me, the kind that wrung my insides in terrible delight. I focused on being like the mannequin.“Stop it,” I said through gritted teeth. He moved to stand beside me. The pushing eased and I could breathe again.“That would look ravishing on you. Would you like me to buy it for you? I could even throw in the ravishing if you like,” he said, teasing and not at the same time.I looked down the street. A moment before it had been filled with city-goers, hurrying from buildings, heading out for the night or trying to get home. Now, it was quiet. Apart from a few hesitant passersby, it looked like the area had been evacuated. Even the traffic had lightened considerably and seemed to creep past, as though the engine sounds were somehow muted. I knew it wasPhoenix; I just didn’t know if it was an illusion he was creating in my head, trying to give us some sick kind of privacy, or if he had poured something terrible into the minds of those surrounding us, something so awful that they had fled.I could see our reflections in the window. He was taller than me, though he often slouched. He always dressed smartly these days.Today he was in black pants and a charcoal shirt. He looked both handsome and dangerous, and I couldn’t help staring at his hair in the glass—the way light danced across the black roots that were illuminated by ripples of deep purple and strands of dazzling silver. Even in the image bouncing off the window, it was mesmerizing. He was watching me too. I knew what he was thinking, standing there surveying me the way I had him, and I hated that we looked so good together. I could feel that he hated it too.FTC Advisory: Sourcebooks Fire provided me with a copy of Emblaze. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

I can’t express how much I adore this series. I loved reading every, single chapter that lead on to an awesome ending!Plot: The plot goes deeper into Violet’s past and future. She is faced with some hard decisions and major sacrifices. Facing a vast amount of danger, Violet will make some major life changes that will affect every thing around her. I can’t express how riveting each chapter was. It was harsh and soft, loving and mean, just so many emotions flowing through the reader…its amazing.Love: AGHHH! This love has got to be the most emotional yet. They want each other sooooo bad but have yet to cross that line. There are a few stolen moments where they exchange words and OMG! Total heart-stopper. It made me swoon and just want to yell,” KISS HER YOU FOOL!” (There were a few kisses but none in those precious moments.) Sigh* I’m hoping in the next book there will be some movement between these two. Cause frankly it’s about time they face the music.Changes: Once all the drama comes to a conclusion, Violet makes some decisions. These decisions affect everyone around her and the future. Some people from her past come back and I can’t decide whether this outcome is good or bad. I guess I’ll have to read the next book to see exactly where this is all going to fit. Not to mention the evil that was released during this whole battle scene.Overall, Emblaze is another great addition to this series. It’s highly addicting with lots of action. An enticing story with a very catchy ending, Emblaze is great.

When I read the first few chapters of Entice, I thought this series had alot of promise. And I did find it an enjoyable read- it was full of action that left me on the edge of my seat at times, and had some nice romance, but it just didn't live up to its full potential. *sigh*.

And now for a small rant in list form(with spoilers)....

-At the start of the book, the way the existence of light and dark angels, that are needed to balance eachother out, was explained, made me excitedly think, "oooohhh... this is going to be a deep, slightly philosophical fantasy story that shows actual shades of grey". However, even after all Violet has seen (Onyx, Phoenix etc.), in this book she still jumps at the chance to divide things into good and evil, despite being reprimanded for it A DOZEN TIMES. I feel like she really needs to be hit over the head with it before it sinks in.
-Phoenix....I cannot put my annoyance with him into words. I thought he was perfectly relatable in the first book, but then he TRIED TO KILL/SERIOUSLY INJURE VIOLET WHILST CLAIMING TO LOVE HER. I can understand his manipulating her emotions towards Lincoln, fuelled by jealousy, but he seriously crossed some lines into insanity in the 2nd and 3rd books. Why did the author ruin a damaged but redeemable character? I think he is now beyond redemption with Violet. (She should not accept romance or even friendship with someone who would hurt her like that- especially with her past attack).
-Something that really annoys me in the books is Violet's tendency to hide things (usually her powers) from people who are supposed to be her TEAMMATES for no good reason (I don't want them to think I'm weird is not a good reason when their job involves saving lives).
-And finally, I feel like the books don't give enough depth to the secondary characters. I feel like I'm always too stuck in Violet's head, and don't really get the chance to really KNOW and UNDERSTAND the many potentially interesting characters like Steph and Spence- Violet can just be way too self-centred (not in a malicious/deliberately mean way) sometimes.

To end on a positive note, here is some gushing, STRICTLY with relevance to Emblaze, I PROMISE!

-I thought the way Violet's dad seemed to suddenly become suspicious and involved added a new level of drama. And Violet's resentment towards him was totally deserved, though I hope she forgives him eventually.
-Such a nice twist, Violet's mother coming back from the dead. It is one of the few plot turns that I did not anticipate at all.
-The romance between Violet and Lincoln was amazing, especially the scene with The Keeper.
-I was pleasantly surprised with the way things ended with Josephine. When she first appeared I was rolling my eyes thinking, "oh my god, not another unpleasant character with a hatred of Violet, who will turn out to be an evil traitor, how boring and not at all subtle! *Cough* Magda *Cough*". But she proved me wrong.

Anyway, that it my very passionate opinion of the book, and the series as a whole, which is very surprising considering it does not really rank amongst my favourites/least favourites.

With the scriptures in hand Violet has a terrible decision to make, hand over to Phoenix the instructions to opening the gates of Hell or risk the life of someone she cares for. But after the first failed attempt to hand over a dummy copy to Phoenix, Violet is not willing to risk anyone's life. So, with the scriptures now in Phoenix's possession Violet and her Grigori friends are now on their way to Greece to try to prevent the end of the world, but they don't go alone. With her every move being watched by both sides, and her soul connection to Lincoln becoming increasingly more painful then pleasure the more they are together, the thought of taking out Phoenix was becoming ever more an option to her, despite what it would mean to her own life. But there is more then just her relationship with Lincoln and her connection with Phoenix to worry about, there is also the thought of what she will tell her father when, or if, she returns home.Emblaze fires her soul, torturing Violet for denying it the one thing she wants so badly but will never have, Lincoln body and soul. But while she and Lincoln struggle with a true love that can never be, Phoenix struggles with a love that never really was. Rejected and scorn, Phoenix's revenge will be enacted on the world through the resurrection of Lilith. But if Lilith is returning she is not doing so alone. An unashamedly romantic story that is hard to resist.

I luv this series thou I can't help but feel sorry for phoenix. I know he the bad guy but he love violet just as much as Lincoln maybe more. He has only turn like this cause he fell in love with Violet who can't get over Lincoln. I get it there soul mate but what she and phoenix share is something strong to. I would love to see here and Phoenix to end together cuz her and Lincoln are to complicated plus he might turn to good if he gets her love which is what he desires.

Jessica Shirvington has created a captivating story that keeps readers begging for more. What originally drew me into The Violet Eden Chapters was the steamy and incredibly well-written love triangle. Even though the love triangle has been seriously de-emphasized since the first novel, the intriguing plot, complex characters, and killer romance have all worked together to create one unforgettable series.Emblaze is action-packed from the very beginning, making it a hard novel to put down. Phoenix just gives so much to the story, that it’s hard not to devour every word of the book in one sitting. We have a villain who is creating so much trouble throughout the story that there is no way the book could be boring. At the same time, he is still a likable and sympathetic character. I loved Phoenix in Embrace, and even though he has done some pretty twisted things, he is still a favorite of mine and I want him to have a happy ending.Since Embrace was so heavily focused on the love triangle between Lincoln, Violet, and Phoenix, we didn’t get to know the supporting characters all that well. Even though they played a much larger role in Entice, it isn’t until Emblaze that they start to become lovable. After reading Emblaze, I can hardly imagine what the novel would be like without Steph and several of the other characters. Not only was Emblaze filled with all of my favorite elements—romance, action, and amazing characters—but it left me wanting more. The ending is just so intense and I feel like I’m dangling on a bit of a cliff waiting for the next installment to appear in my hands. Not only was the final plot twist surprising, but it has all kinds of ramifications for the future of the series and it will be very hard to wait for Endless to come out.
