Robert Morgan is a poet, novelist, and biographer. His most recent book is Boone: A Biography (2007), winner of the Kentucky Literary Award and finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award. He is the recipient of fellowships and awards from the Guggenheim and Rockefeller Foundations, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters, as well as an honorary degree from his alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since 1971 he has taught at Cornell University, where he is now Kappa Alpha

This Story is dedicated to my son Caleb, for he was the inspiration for the exodus, we joked around while playing one-on-one basketball. While in the Persian Gulf during the second Gulf War, I wrote the majority of this story and added to it over time as inspiration hit me
In the 21 century, science will embrace environmentalism and be the catalyst to solving and eliminating pollution. The world will finally have clean air; clean water and wild life will be preserved.
People of earth have united, Clean Air and Water, the protection of endangered species and of the rain forest
Mother Earth saved and oxygen for all
! ‘For Mother Earth is Queen and she has mandated that we preserve her at all cost: Clean Air/Water and the preservation of the species-plants and animals. To sacrifice humanity to protect her wild life is accepted and even demanded, it is our service to her, in return for the natural resources we use to build our cities’.
