Author

Leonard Shaefer

My name is Leonard Shaefer. I am a photographer, writer, artist, and instructor with over 30 years behind the camera. When I look through the lens I am searching for new ways to share my experience. The images I create are heavily weighted toward nature. I’m drawn to evanescent sunsets, the assemblage of landscapes, and the serendipity of searching out subjects in the wilderness. As a photographer I have worked in Real Estate, with National Fund Raising Organizations, and the News Media, It is fun to leisurely search out that perfect shot for personal use, however, I thoroughly enjoy the challenges and outcomes of being on assignment. When your photos have to be their best, and you are telling someone else's story with the images, there are no second chances. If a mistake is made when shooting for my own pleasure then I have missed a great shot. When that mistake is made on assignment then someone is losing a once in a lifetime memory.

    Introduction

Those of you that are new to digital photography, and are not happy with the photographs you are taking, face two huge obstacles. How can you take better pictures if you do not know the mistakes you are making? And, how to correct those mistakes if you do not know you are making them!

You can turn to the Internet in a search for hints and tips on improving your photography skills, but what questions should you ask? Finding this e-book means that you have been looking for answers, so consider your search over. You and I will cover photog basics, lingo, and advanced techniques in a super easy to follow format.

One last thing… I am going to introduce you to many different techniques that you can use to improve your photos. I do not expect you to try using all of them for every photograph you take. That is just not feasible – if not impossible. Feel free to choose the ones that fit the situation, and have fun. So let’s get started!

    Disclaimer

This book is not a technical guide on how to use a digital camera, and I do not explain the different functions of your camera. I am making the assumption that you are already familiar with your camera, but you do not like the photographs you are taking.
