Foreword by Meghan Telpner Author of UnDiet

Having been in this field for nearly a decade, I have had the honour and privilege to work with and get to know experts from across the spectrum of the health field -- and there is a broad spectrum. The greatest variations in eating habits, food philosophies and even attention to overall health, surprisingly, seems to come from the fitness arena. Here we have a group of people who devote an admirable amount of energy, passion, time and commitment to building up physical strength, stamina, and endurance while setting measurable goals, yet rarely is any of this energy put into food.

For some reason, food ends up coming down to a balance of fats, carbohydrates and proteins, without a care as to what form they may serve. And this very approach becomes its own disservice to the very goals you, as an athlete, may be striving to achieve. Macronutrients are not created equally -- there are great quality proteins and then there are proteins that may be highly processed, pro-inflammatory and serve to slow repair and recovery.

As an educator and author in the field of culinary nutrition, I have seen and experienced for myself how extraordinarily invaluable the quality of our food is to achieving all manner of health goals. As my student, I had the honour of sharing my knowledge with Michelle and I am thrilled that she has taken her passion for fitness, combined it with her culinary nutrition skills and creativity to write this book -- a perfect recipe for health success.

The recipes in this book fulfill the needs of elite and amateur athletes, getting in the right balance of fats, carbs and proteins, while still taking into account the essential vitamins, minerals, essential fats and additional phytonutrients that will help us get strong now, and keep us well to ensure a long and successful journey through each training season and fitness challenge.

I am confident the recipes in this book will inspire you to get into your kitchen, explore new flavours, new foods and ultimately help you achieve new and heightened levels of success, no matter what your health and fitness goals are.

    In great health,

    Meghan Telpner

All athletes know they need energy to train as well as to recover from their workouts but so few understand how to meet these needs. This cookbook delivers a tasty yet nutritious set of recipes for the serious athlete. The recipes are simple to prepare with easily available ingredients and leave the taster wondering how something so nutritious can possibly still taste that good. The recipes include options for those with gluten or dairy allergies as well as for vegan and vegetarian diets. I would highly recommend this cookbook to my patients.
