After working in the fitness industry for most of my adult years I've come to realize it's more about the food we eat than the exercise we do in a 1 hour personal training session. I am a self proclaimed health and fitness guru on a journey, trying to figure out what's gone wrong in the USA. Let's figure out what's going on with the food we eat by becoming more self aware. Every body is different. You may be able to eat dates, they may send me into a full on sugar binge. I try to answer the question "Has your food got you or do you have your food." How and why do certain foods effect us the way they do. How do you avoid eating an entire bag of Oreo cookies, crate of icecream, or bag of chips. I am a Personal Trainer, health coach, and vegan who practices Mindfulness, Meditation, Yoga, Runs, Cycles, and love to experience adventure through movement wherever I go. I practice what I preach and follow Dr. Neal Barnard's protocols for reversing diabetes. I live and work in Washington DC metro area. You can contact me by writing at Karen.ready4change@live.com

Introduction
You are reading this book because you are sick and tired of having food taking over your life. You know some foods hijack your brain and body. So if we begin right there, by admitting that we are powerless over some foods we can begin to reshape our eating behaviors. Understanding that we are powerless over some foods will help turn your life around. I wrote this book because I know there are demeans out there. Often times they are wrapped up in slick packaging. I am passionate about helping you figure out how to deal with the demons that keep you from wearing your favorite clothes. The deck of cards is heavily stacked against you, and you may not even know it. But you know for some reason some foods make you eat more, sometimes mindlessly, filling up your anxious body with brain-soothing chemicals.
Let me share one of my experiences, one that you may relate to.
Puffy, bloodshot eyes greet me as I peer into the bathroom mirror. I know it’s going to be another foggy-brained morning. I’d overindulged on pizza, chips, and birthday cake the night before, drank one glass of wine, but felt like I had many more.
Yuck, a food-hangover.
A food-hangover,
you’ve never heard of it? Nor had I, before I started calling it that.
The prior night, I remembered the feeling of having little control over what I shoveled down my throat. I knew the food was unhealthy, but I just kept eating. I didn’t remember making any conscious decisions about choosing the food I was eating, didn’t remember tasting the food, but did remember eating so much when I got home, my bloated body fell into bed, and drifted quickly into a deep carbohydrate-induced sleep.
This wasn’t new, the cycle has repeated time and time again, often, after a crisis. Sometimes the cycle occurred when I was bored, frustrated, anxious, or lonely. Sometimes I had no clue as to why I binged. I just knew binging was wreaking my body, my mind, and my relationships.
It was just food. How could my life be spinning out of control because of something as simple and wholesome as a chocolate chip cookie?
Parties are supposed to be fun. Food is supposed to be tasty and fun. It’s ok to overeat every once and a while, right? Sometimes I’d eat till I felt like throwing up. Often I ate till food was unable to travel down my esophagus, because
