Randall Knives - Robert E. Hunt
Section I:
Randall Museum Knives
Early 1940s Fighter
This early Fighter with 6-inch blade was favored by the maker and bears his name. Note the location, as later examples were name etched on the reverse side of the blade. This logo, incorporated during 1939, indicates time of production. Leather handle washers were introduced at the end of 1942 and the spacer arrangement shows a metal as well as fiber arrangement. This is a handsome example of one of Bo’s first fighters and yes, in this case, most assuredly made by him.
1940s Fighter
Reverse curved upper guard
The cover of Randall Fighting Knives in Wartime features a similar knife, along with its original sheath. This example, which is displayed in the museum, is identical and exhibits the same innovation on the upper guard extension. The forward angle facilitated thumb placement, a gripping position favored by Bo.
Other characteristics are attributed to very early 1940s production; the spacers, thick leather handle washers, very thin butt cap, flat blade grind and location of the trademark.
World War II Fighter
8" blade
We can go on forever writing about this knife. Although not the first Randall Fighter (style), it nonetheless represents the type universally recognized, with wrist thong clip, handle shape and spacer arrangement. What’s more, it provides the viewer with a new-appearing
example, underlying the attraction and appeal of the model to its contemporary users.
Like all the knives in this section, it is depicted without a sheath. Although not commonly known, some museum examples were originally provided with sheaths, but they were stored separately due to lack of space in the display
