A great introduction. There are plenty of clear, helpful diagrams, and the language is simple to understand. The book doesn't go into a great deal of depth about anything, but that's a good thing - there are a several books that go into detail about thermalling, glider aerodynamics, the intricacies of weather and its effect on gliding, all of that stuff - but what has been a little harder to find is a book that sets the basics out clearly for the beginner. This book fits the bill perfectly: there's a fair amount about the early stages of learning to glide, and also several chapters giving tasters of various subjects to look forward to and explore in greater detail elsewhere - the badge system, cross-country flying, racing, aerobatics and so on. Recommended for people new to gliding (even if, like me, they have had experience in power flying or other areas of aviation).
