Introduction
Lots of tourists, and lots to see.
Quite a bit of what makes up the tourist center of Amsterdam is quite close to each other. As a result, you'll find yourself walking to and from most places in this itinerary, which has more places than my usual itineraries.
Consistently ranked near the top in things like innovation, a best city to live in, quality of living, Amsterdam also happens to welcome several times the city's population in international visitors alone. While not the oldest Dutch city, Amsterdam can legitimately claim a history that goes back to the early 14th century. Since at least the 16th century, the city has been known as one of tolerance, during which time the city started the world's first stock exchange and was the epicenter of a worldwide shipping network.
During the Napoleonic Wars from 1803-1815, Amsterdam and the rest of Holland was absorbed into the French Empire. This was thankfully brief, and by the end of the 19th century Amsterdam entered a second golden
