OBJECTIVES:
1. To reduce Aedes aegypti mosquito population in schools. 2. To reduce transmission of dengue virus in schools.

Specific Objectives:
1. Conduct trainings on use and purpose of DOST ovilarvicidal trap and;
2. Install DOST ovilarvicidal traps in schools nationwide 3 Monitor OL index and dengue incidence (c/o CHOs)

MAIN ACTIVITY:
Deployment of the developed DOST ovi-larvicidal trap system in all public elementary and high schools nationwide

Details Each agency shall issue a Memorandum Circular and the terms of reference for project implementation The Regional Offices shall identify point persons for the project (point person in the region and point person per division) The Regional Offices shall organize activities for the project in the regions. The DOH regional office shall identify the cities/municipalities to be prioritized in the installation of traps based on the number of dengue incidence or other dengue related parameters being utilized in the area. The regional offices shall decide on how to conduct the orientation (regionwide, division-wide or district-wide or clusterized). The training activities shall be attended by one (1)representative from DepED district and division offices, and one (1) representative per school.

The division offices shall identify the point persons per school who shall be responsible for effective implementation and monitoring by ensuring: a) weekly change of O/L solution and weekly monitoring of O/L trap index; and b) on-time submission of monitoring reports. Monitoring of OL index in the school and dengue incidence in the community

Department of Education Specifics


1. Assign coordinator for a) the region b) the division c) the school to oversee/supervise project implementation. 2. Transfer OL traps from the division office to the recipient schools. 3. Conduct orientation training in each recipient school before project implementation. 4. Organize and utilize the school dengue brigade in the project implementation specifically in other intervention activities 5. Ensure proper installation and servicing of OL traps (c/o teachers) a. Install 2 traps per classroom on day 1 (Wednesday) (1 inside and 1 outside) b. Check status of trap from day 1-6 c. Harvest trap on day 6 (Tuesday). d. Check whether trap is positive (positive trap : trap with larva in solution or eggs on the paddle) or negative. e. Record results in triplicates in the monitoring sheet f. Consolidate results. g. Submit monitoring results to division coordinator, DOST and city dengue coordinators. h. Submitted monitoring results may include other operational observations and recommendations.

Designate a coordinator per region who shall be responsible for synchronizing the activities necessary for the O/L Trap Roll Out; Identify the priority sites for deployment of O/L traps based on increased number of cases of dengue according to documentation of the DOH; Extend technical assistance such as the conduct of trainings and orientations on Aedes mosquito and dengue to all participating agencies; Provide information, education and communication materials on Aedes mosquito and dengue;

Conduct active surveillance, monitoring and follow-up of dengue cases in the regional and provincial levels;
Provide monthly data on dengue cases to partner agencies Identify priority schools where the O/L traps will initially be distributed;
