Dear Lawrence School Parents and Guardians,

Welcome! The PTO is excited to announce several new initiatives for 2012-13, but rst wed like to briey
mention our Two Hour Power campaign. We hope that each of you will commit to donating just two hours over
the course of the year to help with any event or project that appeals to you. Youll be hearing more about that over
the next few weeks.
Our biggest news is that, with the exception of this mailing, PTO communications will go all electronic this
year. We are proud to introduce www.lawrenceschoolbrookline.org, a combined school and PTO website where
youll nd the PTO calendar, complete contact lists, and lots of other information about Lawrence School and the
Lawrence PTO. Your feedback will help us improve the new website, so let us know what you think.
Were also upgrading our directory system and replacing the weekly PTO Paper with a weekly email
update. We will be contacting you via email just after the start of school to explain the new directory system,
which will give each family complete control over their own information in a secure online environment. If you are
new to the school or were not in last years directory, please send an email with your name and your childs name/
class to president@lawrencepto.org. We also need to hear from you if you were not receiving emails from the PTO
last year. The PTO will no longer send home a paper newsletter. If we cant reach you via email, you will miss
a lot of important information. (If you dont have internet access, please call one of us at the telephone numbers
below.)
New Lawrence families may be wondering what the PTO is all about. The PTO works with administration
and teachers to enhance our childrens experience at Lawrence. We raise money to fund resources and enrich-
ment activities at each grade level. More than half of our budget directly supports teachers by funding classroom
supplies, grants for innovative projects, books for the library, and eld trips. The bulk of the remaining half goes to
enrichment programs that bring performing and visual artists to school, fund before- and after-school sports,
subsidize the drama program, and provide scholarships to ensure that each child can participate fully in all school
and PTO activities. We also bring families together at community-building events throughout the year. Please see
the website for a detailed description of PTO activities and a breakdown of our budget.
As a parent/guardian at Lawrence School, you are automatically a full-edged member of the PTO. Your
time and talents make our PTO what it is, so please be involved! Our continued success depends on strong volun-
teer support as well as nancial contributions. We encourage you to contribute in any way that you can.
Please note the New Family Welcome on Tuesday, September 11, at 8:00 a.m. in the library, and the rst PTO
Meeting of the year, at 7:00 p.m. that same day. The Fall Picnic is scheduled for September 13 at 5:30 p.m.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
