Philadelphia Bricklayer Electrocuted in Fatal Workplace Accident A Philadelphia bricklayer was killed earlier this month as a result of a workplace accident. The worker was reportedly attempting to hoist a bucket with a large hook up onto the scaffolding on which he was standing. The man came into contact with the line and was electrocuted, then fell to the ground. The worker was pronounced dead at the scene of the fall. The worker was reportedly working on the third floor of a building under construction at 20th and Parrish Streets in the Fairmount section of the city. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, PECO and the City of Philadelphias Department of Licenses and Inspections are investigating the fatal accident. The workers family members have indicated that they always had safety concerns about the work site, specifically a suspected lack of fall protection. Information is not yet available on who the man worked for. Construction site work can be dangerous, especially when people are working at great heights. Falls are among the most common construction site accidents. In 2010, 751 U.S. construction industry workers were killed. Of the 751, 35 workers were killed in falls. The victims family may be entitled to workers compensation death benefits. In addition, the victims family may have a cause of action for negligence against a third party, such as a contractor, sub-contractor, or owner of the property. If you or someone you know has suffered serious injury or death as a result of a workplace accident, you may want to consider contacting a personal injury attorney to explain and protect your rights.
