CLASSROOM TEACHER

Reporting Responsibility
The Classroom Teacher reports directly to the school Principal.

Job Summary
The Classroom Teacher is responsible for creating a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth; maintaining a safe environment; establishing effective rapport with pupils; motivating pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for higher levels of education, in accordance with each pupil's ability; establishing good relationships with parents and other staff members. The Classroom Teacher is expected to support school and district goals.

Essential Functions
The Classroom Teacher is responsible to: 1. Teach his/her assigned courses utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, correlating it with other appropriate learning activities 2. Instruct pupils in citizenship. 3. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students. 4. Convert lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. 5. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. 6. Evaluate pupil's academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports. 7. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss the pupil's progress and interpret the school program. 8. Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. 9. Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers. 10. Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction. 11. Maintain classroom organization and discipline. 12. Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and on the school grounds. 13. Maintain professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. 14. Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission. 15. Participate in faculty meetings as required. 16. Administer appropriate pupil attendance policies and procedures. 17. Participate in appropriate educator evaluation procedures as per district guidelines. 18. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities. 19. Select and requisition books and instructional materials; maintain required inventory records. 20. Administer group standardized tests in an ethical manner and in accordance with the district testing program. 21. Maintain regular attendance to acceptable level to perform listed job functions. 22. Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Necessary To Performance Of Essential Functions


The classroom teacher must 1. Possess problem-solving skills. 2. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with pupils, school staff, district staff, and patrons. 3. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 4. Have knowledge of State Core Curriculum and Board of Education adopted guides.

Required Education And Training


The Classroom Teacher must hold a valid Utah Teaching Licensee and the endorsements required to teach the assigned course(s).
