London stage since 1960. His plays are on
the brink of absurdist drama, Peary
noted. "but even scarier because they
are set in the realistic world with which
we are familiar. "Pinter's
characters are often the back street
rescue mission transitories whom we
pass on the streets of slums but never
encounter except when they panhandle
from us," Peary explained. "Pinter's
task is to investigate their mysterious
lives, taking us into the dilapidated
boarding houses and flop hotels which
they inhabit."
