Participate in City Government by Attending Council Meetings
The City Council offers the public an opportunity to bring topics and issues to Councils attention during the Public Comment section at the start of regular Council meetings. Those wishing to be heard should submit their request immediately prior to the meeting by filling out a speakers card with contact information and topic to be discussed. The card will be submitted to a representative of the Office of City Clerk. Groups and organizations are asked to designate one spokesperson whenever possible. When addressing Council citizens should speak directly to members of City Council and state their name and address for the record. Repetition of ideas expressed by other speakers should be avoided. Presentations are limited to three (3) minutes. Every effort will be made to ensure that citizens have ample opportunity to address the City Council.

Fairburn Utilities is alerting customers to a scam, which promises to pay utility bills in exchange for personal information, including social security numbers. The scam, which has been reported across the country, claims that the Obama Administration is providing credits or applying payments to utility bills. How the Scam Works: Identity thieves persuade victims that a special federal government assistance is available to pay their utility bills. Victims are given bank account and routing numbers to use when paying their bills online, but only after they "register" by surrendering their Social Security numbers and other personal information. Tips to Avoid Falling for this Scam:

Police Department House Watch

Going out of town? Did you know that the police department offers a house watch service? A minimum of one officer from each shift will physically check the perimeter of your residence during your absence and contact you or your designee if there are any problems. You can request House Watch service by accessing the Police Department page on the city website at www.fairburn.com.

Never provide your social security number, credit card number or banking information to anyone requesting it over the phone or at your home unless you initiated the contact and feel confident with whom you are speaking. Customers who have doubts about the legitimacy of any call or visit from anyone promising utility assistance or service, especially one in which payment or personal information is requested, should contact Fairburn Utilities at 770969-3481. If you believe you have been a victim of this scam or suspect your identity has been stolen, please contact the Fairburn Police Department at 770-964-1441.

Fire Department Receives Donation Woodhaven Furniture, a manufacturing division of Aaron Rents, recently contacted Fairburns Fire Department through their community outreach program. Arrangements were made to provide the Fire Department with fourteen new mattresses for our fire stations. Fire Chief Jody Weller indicated this generous donation by Woodhaven Furniture enabled the city to realize a savings of over $4,000. Thank you Woodhaven Furniture.
