Unit 1: Healthy Relationships
Essential Question: How do students make responsible decisions about relationships and sexual health? Essential Skills & Knowledge: Standard C- Health Promotion and Risk Reduction: Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks. -Students will demonstrate knowledge of anatomy/growth and development. -Students will understand abstinence/pregnancy/infertility/labor. -Students will evaluate the risks and health implications associated with sexually transmitted diseases. -Students will identify skills that promote healthy relationships and avoid dating violence. Standard F- Communication and Advocacy Skills: Students will demonstrate the ability to make decision and set goals to enhance health.

Unit 2: Substance Abuse


Essential Question: How do students make responsible decisions about substances that allow them to maintain a healthy lifestyle? Essential Skills & Knowledge: Standard C- Health Promotion and Risk Reduction: Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks. -Students will demonstrate how to access/utilize the substance abuse counselor. -Students will analyze the importance of maintaining self control. Standard F- Communication and Advocacy Skills: Students demonstrate the ability to make decisions and set goals to enhance health. -Students will demonstrate how to access the substance abuse counselor. -Students will dramatize the ability to avoid addiction -Students will outline healthy practices and behaviors surrounding medicine use. Essential Question: How do individuals evaluate the effectiveness of a health-related decision? Essential Question: How do individuals evaluate their personal fitness and apply that information to create and implement an effective personalized fitness plan? Essential Skills & Knowledge Standard H- Physical Fitness Activities and Knowledge: Students demonstrate and apply fitness concepts. -Gain the knowledge, skills, and understanding of the process of becoming fit. -Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. -Understand the concept of wellness and strive to reach the optimal levels of health. Standard H- Physical Fitness Activities and Knowledge: Students demonstrate and apply fitness concepts. - Adventure and outdoor activities provide enjoyment and challenge. - Participation in adventure and outdoor activities has many health and fitness benefits. - Adventure/outdoor education can have an impact on personal fitness programs.
