Community Service 2012 Company of the Week: Webster Financial Corporation Week of September 3, 2012

This Company of the Week is just one example that shows what all our companies do every day. The financial services industry provides extraordinary services to communities throughout America. Employees of Roundtable companies volunteer throughout the year for financial literacy, neighborhood improvement, fundraising, health care, child services, and much more. Every company in the Roundtable dedicates some of their time to community service for the communities they serve.

Webster Financial Corp Partners with Junior Achievement


Connecticut based Webster Financial Corp. (NYSE: WBS) is teaming-up with Junior Achievement to feed the entrepreneurial spirit of todays youth. This is more than sponsorship dollars; it puts the We in Webster giving back to the community.

In 2011, employees volunteered almost 114,000 hours for JA. This year, Webster is on pace to repeat. From January 1 June 30, Webster bankers participated in JA in a Day events in Manchester, New Haven, Torrington, and Waterbury, Conn., as well as North Kingstown, R.I. 92 bankers reached 1,175 students so far. Similar events are planned for next year.

Webster bankers have answered the call made by Jerry Plush, president and chief operating officer, to serve on the boards of each of the nine JA chapters in the banks four-state footprint. Plush was recently elected chairman of Hartford-based JA of Southwest New England. Webster bankers serve on the boards of JA of Western Connecticut, JA of Southwest Connecticut, JA of Rhode Island, JA of Southern Massachusetts, JA of Northern New England, JA of Western Massachusetts, JA of Hudson Valley, and JA of Wisconsin, the home of Webster subsidiary HSA Bank. That tells you about the commitment we are making to fuel and feed the entrepreneurial spirit, said Plush. Were passionate to do this with kids at an early age. The goal is to reach the next generation with important life lessons and skills about money and finances that will guide their financial decisions as adults.
