This artifact is part of a lesson plan in a Civil War unit.

Students would be working in groups or individually to explore the Google Lit Trip. Lit Trips are a great tool to use in the class room because they give a lot of great information, in different forms that cater to students different learning styles. The Lit Trip has videos, pictures, poems, and other different resources placed on a map of the United States with each artifact relating to the location on the map that it has been placed. This Lit Trip can be found at www.googlelittrips.org and is under the 6-8 section and is titled Civil War Voices. This artifact addresses the standard of instructional delivery, standard five. The standard says that The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student and this artifact supports that. Students all have different ways of learning and by using this source all of their learning needs are met and they are given a wealth of great information. This can be used as a tool for students to go on a quest through the Civil War or even as a model for students to make their own journey across America using historical events and concepts. This artifact represents how I have grown and developed as an educator. I have learned to recognize that not all students learn in the same way and that tools in the classroom deliver instruction in multiple ways. I have also begun to acknowledge and develop lessons that can easily be changed or altered, something that it takes an experienced educator to recognize. This artifact can be used at home or in class, in groups or individually, and as a lesson or as a jumping off point to a greater project.
