D. William James is important to philosophy of religion and history because he knows what he is doing. He makes smart yet very understandable comments about religion.

C. He had to overcome his major health issues. He had: a variety of physical ailments, including those of the eyes, back, stomach, and skin. He was also tone deaf.[3] He was subject to a variety of psychological symptoms which were diagnosed at the Ume as neurasthenia, and which included periods of depression during which he contemplated suicide for months on end.

A. *Famous!*
He rst became famous by being the rst educator to oer a psychology course in the U.S.[2]

B. Accomplishments
He was appointed instructor in physiology for the spring 1873 term, instructor in anatomy and physiology in 1873, assistant professor of psychology in 1876, assistant professor of philosophy in 1881, full professor in 1885, endowed chair in psychology in 1889, And returned to philosophy in 1897.

C. Stuck in a Rut
Obviously, William had major health issues, and that held him back, because he was tone deaf, and he had thoughts regularly about suicide. He also traveled overseas, but he was a VERY seasick man.

V. Impact on the World


William was the rst educator to teach physiology in the U.S. He taught young college kids one of the smartest and hardest subjects, but seemed to do it quite well.

A. Change in America
He changed America by being the rst to start physiology in college. Our college students now will have a beIer chance in being a philosopher because he started to teach.

B. Field Change
William changed his eld of philosophy in religion and history by now puYng their specializaUon into schools. They now have a larger eld and now they can teach almost anywhere.

A. Philosophers Big Idea


His main idea was to teach the world what he believes in and to teach everyone his theories.

VII. Lesson Learned


I learned from his life that even though you can have some big problems in life ( his major health problems), you can sUll be strong and move on.

A. Personality
He seemed very wise, and incredibly smart, considering before I made this PowerPoint I barely knew what physiology meant, and that made him an even more likeable character. And, look at that face J :

B. Apply the Lessons


I can apply that lesson to my life by Being thankful for not having that many health issues, and that no madder what comes my way, I can sUll go on. Whenever something bad comes my way, I will remember William and how nothing came in his way.

C. Looking up
William is someone to look up to because he was such an inspiraUon, considering I thought anyone who had a case with the word deaf in it would be gone, but he was a major philosopher! I love his persistence.
