Objective: I Can Understand concepts about print Follow Instructions Write a Super Sentence State Standards Addressed: Kindergarten: I Can Use letters and phonetically spelled words to write about experiences, stories, people, objects, or events. Write by moving from left to right and from top to bottom using proper spacing. Recite short poems, rhymes, and songs (K. l) First Grade: I Can Use knowledge of the basic rules of punctuation and capitalization when writing. (1.l) Capitalize the first word of a sentence, names of people, and the pronoun I. (1.l) Write brief descriptions of a real object, person, place, or event, using sensory details. Use descriptive words when writing. Second Grade: I Can Create readable documents with legible handwriting. Capitalize: proper nouns, words at the beginning of sentences, greetings, months and days of the week, titles, and initials of people correctly

Summary: Students will be seated on the ABC carpet and listen/participate attentively while the teacher reviews the parts of a book, (i.e. front cover, back cover, spine, and title page). The teacher will then read the book, Cock-A-Doodle-Moo. By Bernard Most. The teacher will pause during the story and ask for predictions from the students (i.e. What do you think will happen next?). The teacher will then review the book orally with the students to promote comprehension. The teacher will also review specific words from the story and place those words on the word wall. The teacher will instruct the entire class, completing the following worksheets as a group (Farm Animals Word Scramble, Counting Worksheet-Farm animals). After the worksheets are completed as an entire class the teacher will introduce/explain, Super Sentences. The teacher will then, with the help and input from the students, write a super sentence on the board. This will help to solidify comprehension of concepts taught. The teacher will then direct the students attention to the super sentences writing activity and explain the directions. Learning Activities 1. Book Walk/review/predictions 2. Counting worksheet-farm animals 3. Farm animals word scramble 4. Super Sentences Differentiation: Students who cannot yet write words on their own will receive a tracing super sentence sheet to complete.
